Check Out The Filson Edition Ford Bronco

Ford is about to find out if rugged luxury is really a thing.

The Blue Oval announced last week it is teaming up with premium outdoor outfitter Filson for a special-edition Bronco that promises to blend serious off-road capability with upscale craftsmanship and heritage branding. The first-ever Bronco Filson edition will officially debut June 3, but Ford has already started teasing what it calls a “premium 4x4 for adventurers.”

If you’re old enough to remember Ford Eddie Bauer editions from the 1980s and 1990s, you probably already understand the playbook here. Back then, Ford figured out people liked outdoorsy branding mixed with upscale trim. Apparently, history repeats itself, only now the flannel shirts cost $400.

Filson, based in Seattle, has built a cult following around ultra-durable outdoor clothing, bags, jackets and gear aimed at hunters, ranchers, outdoorsmen and anyone who thinks Patagonia has gotten a little too civilized. Their products are expensive, but they also tend to last forever. Ford is clearly betting Bronco buyers will appreciate that same “buy it once, keep it for decades” philosophy.

So far, Ford is only showing a teaser image of the rear spare tire cover featuring a bronze “Bronco Filson” logo, but company executives have already hinted this won’t just be another sticker-and-badge special edition.

According to Ford, the collaboration was designed directly into the vehicle itself, with Filson materials and design themes incorporated throughout the interior while still maintaining the Bronco’s washable, durable nature. Translation: think premium leather, waxed canvas, copper accents, rugged textures and probably enough earth-tone colors to make an REI store manager emotional.

Dave Rivers, Ford’s head of Enthusiast Brands, told FOX Business the Bronco Filson is aimed at buyers who appreciate products built to stand the test of time. He compared vintage Broncos, which now routinely bring six figures at auction, to Filson gear often passed down through generations.

Honestly, it makes sense.

The Bronco has already become more than just a vehicle. It’s a lifestyle brand. Ford figured that out quickly after relaunching the SUV in 2021. Buyers aren’t just purchasing transportation; they’re buying into an image of adventure, camping, trail riding and outdoor freedom. Some owners actually use them that way. Others just like parking them outside expensive coffee shops with mud-terrain tires they’ll never test.

Either way, Ford knows how to market emotion.

This isn’t the first time Ford and Filson have worked together. Back in 2020, they unveiled the Bronco Filson Wildland Fire Rig concept, a heavily modified Bronco designed to support wildfire response crews and promote conservation efforts tied to the National Forest Foundation. That concept combined forest-service styling with Filson materials and serious off-road hardware.

The upcoming production version won’t be a firefighting rig, but it clearly borrows heavily from that project’s rugged-premium theme.

Ford says the initial launch will be as a four-door Bronco, although executives haven’t ruled out expanding the Filson treatment to additional Bronco variants later.

Pricing hasn’t been announced, but nobody should expect this thing to be cheap. Filson products aren’t exactly bargain-bin material, and Ford already has shown customers are willing to spend serious money on Broncos. Between the Heritage Edition and the Stroppe Edition, there’s already a wide pricing spread in the Bronco lineup, leaving plenty of room for another premium trim level.

And frankly, Ford probably doesn’t need this to become a high-volume seller. Halo vehicles like this exist to keep excitement high around a brand.

What’s interesting is how automakers continue moving deeper into lifestyle partnerships. Jeep has long leaned into outdoor culture. Subaru practically owns the hiking-trail parking lot. Now Ford is taking Bronco even further upscale while still trying to maintain its tough-guy image.

It’s an interesting balancing act.

But if Ford pulls this off correctly, the Bronco Filson could become one of those special editions people actually remember years later instead of one more forgettable appearance package.

Besides, there are certainly worse ideas than combining a Bronco with a company that’s spent more than a century building gear for people who voluntarily sleep outside.
