2027 Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle Review

This week I am behind the wheel of the refreshed 2027 Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle AWD, the top trim of the minivan that has spent years proving that practical does not have to mean punishment. I have admitted many times that I am not naturally a minivan guy, but I also understand why families love them. Low step-in height, huge sliding-door openings, three usable rows and an enormous cargo hold are awfully persuasive when the alternative is performing gymnastics in a crowded parking lot.

My review vehicle is finished in vivid Hydro Blue Pearl-Coat with Chrysler's new Black and Blue Agave interior. It seats seven and has all-wheel drive. The 2027 Pacifica is refreshed rather than completely redesigned, but Chrysler changed the two areas people notice first: its face and its cabin.

What's New

The Select, Limited and Pinnacle trims receive an entirely new front fascia for 2027. A slim illuminated Chrysler wing badge stretches into a new lighting signature, while vertical LED elements at the outer corners create what Chrysler calls a piano-key effect. The projector headlamps are integrated lower in the fascia, and the rear receives a redesigned full-width light-bar applique and updated wing badge. The result is a cleaner, more modern look without pretending the Pacifica is anything other than a minivan.

Inside, the Pinnacle debuts an exclusive Blue Agave Nappa leather treatment with a new parquet perforation pattern, copper-colored stitching, contrasting piping, Copper Alloy accent bezels and Dark Platinum dashboard trim. Other 2027 changes include an adjustable-height power liftgate and two additions to the Safety Sphere system: a camera view that appears when a turn signal is activated and automatic camera activation when the parking sensors detect an object.

Chrysler has also separated the former all-in-one rear technology package into Family Tech and Theater groups, allowing buyers to choose convenience features separately from rear entertainment. The lineup now has four gasoline-powered trims because the former Voyager has become the Pacifica LX. The Pacifica plug-in hybrid is no longer in production.

Exterior

Hydro Blue is a terrific color for showing off the new bodywork. Up front, the illuminated wing and thin horizontal signature make the van appear wider, while the vertical corner lighting gives it a distinctive nighttime identity. The lower grille is large, but the black mesh and body-color surround keep it from looking as though the van is trying to swallow the family dog.

The Pinnacle adds Platinum Chrome exterior accents, including bright lower-door trim and mirror caps, plus handsome 20-inch diamond-cut painted wheels wearing 245/50R20 all-season self-sealing tires. Hands-free power sliding doors operate on both sides, and the hands-free power liftgate can now be programmed to stop at a selected height, a very useful feature in low garages and parking structures.

Powertrain

Under the hood is Chrysler's familiar 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 producing 287-horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. It is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and an automatic stop/start system which can be disabled. This Pinnacle is equipped with all-wheel drive, which can transfer power where traction is needed and disconnect the rear driveline when it is not, reducing unnecessary drag.

There is no sporting pretense here, nor should there be, but 287-horses move the Pacifica with authority when merging or passing. The rotary transmission selector on the center stack frees up valuable console space and is easy to operate once you have used it a couple of times.

Interior

The new Blue Agave cabin is the star of this Pacifica. Depending on the light, the leather moves between blue-gray and charcoal, while the copper stitching and warmer piping prevent the interior from becoming dark or cold. The new parquet-pattern perforations, stitched dashboard, suede headliner and Copper Alloy trim give the Pinnacle a genuinely upscale atmosphere. This is not a luxury cabin merely because somebody attached a luxury price; the materials, colors and execution earn the description.

The front Nappa leather bucket seats are heated, ventilated and eight-way power-adjustable on both sides. The steering wheel is heated, the dual-pane panoramic sunroof brightens the first two rows and the integrated Ultra Console provides two levels of storage with a useful open pass-through underneath. That space is especially handy for a purse, small bag or tablet that would otherwise wind up on the passenger seat.

Standard Features

Pinnacle equipment includes hands-free power sliding doors and liftgate, rain-sensing wipers, a wireless phone charger, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with subwoofer, the FamCAM interior camera, Chrysler Connect services, a Wi-Fi hotspot, the Stow 'n Vac integrated vacuum and a Stow 'n Place roof rack.

The FamCAM can show rear passengers on the center screen and is particularly valuable for checking a child in a rear-facing safety seat without turning around.

Safety

The safety list is extensive. It includes full-speed forward-collision warning with active braking, pedestrian emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path detection, front and rear parking assistance, advanced brake assist, a 360-degree surround-view camera and a rear-seat reminder.

The new turn-signal-activated blind-spot view places a live picture of the adjacent lane on the center touchscreen, while ParkSense-based camera activation automatically shows the appropriate camera angle when a parking sensor detects something nearby. Both features are designed to supply useful information at the moment the driver needs it rather than requiring another trip through a screen menu.

Options

The Pinnacle AWD starts at $57,905. Hydro Blue Pearl-Coat adds $495, and the $1,395 Theater Group installs two front-seatback video screens, Amazon Fire TV, a Blu-ray/DVD player with USB input and video remote controls. With the $1,995 destination charge, the total is $61,790.

Driver Information and Center Screen

The driver faces a clear instrument cluster with traditional round gauges and a configurable color information display between them. The layout is familiar, legible and considerably easier to digest at a glance than some of the tablet-shaped instrument panels appearing in newer vehicles.

Centered high on the dashboard is the 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 navigation touchscreen. It responds quickly, presents large icons and supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Physical controls remain below the display for the climate system and frequently used vehicle functions, which means adjusting the temperature does not require negotiating with a piece of glass.

The system also controls the surround-view cameras, FamCAM, navigation, audio and connected apps.

Drive Modes

There is no bank of named drive modes to complicate matters. The Pacifica's all-wheel-drive system works automatically in the background, engaging and distributing power as conditions require. For a vehicle whose main mission is making family life easier, that is exactly how it should operate.

Second and Third Rows

The second row contains two heated Easy-Slide captain's chairs with individual armrests. They are wide, deeply padded and considerably more luxurious than the thin folding chairs found in many family vehicles. They slide and tilt forward to open a path to the third row, and the open center aisle also allows passengers to walk between them.

One important distinction: the Pinnacle's plush second-row seats are removable, but they do not fold into the floor. Second-row Stow 'n Go is available on the Select and Limited trims. Pinnacle retains power-folding third-row Stow 'n Go seating, and the floor bins that would otherwise hold folding second-row seats become generous covered storage compartments.

The third-row bench has room for three and offers 36.5 inches of legroom. It is more accommodating than the third rows in most midsize SUVs, and the power controls in the cargo area make folding and raising the seat much easier than wrestling with straps while holding groceries.

Cargo and Utility

Cargo volume is 32.3 cubic feet behind the third row, 87.5 cubic feet behind the second row and as much as 140.5 cubic feet behind the front seats after the rear seats are folded or the second-row chairs are removed. The deep well behind the third row keeps luggage from stacking above the rear window, and when the third row disappears into that well, the load floor becomes long and flat.

This Pacifica uses self-sealing tires rather than a conventional spare tire. Buyers who routinely travel through remote areas should decide whether that arrangement provides enough reassurance before the first family road trip.

Ride and Drive

The Pacifica remains one of the nicest-driving vehicles in the minivan class. Its four-wheel independent suspension delivers a smooth, settled ride, the steering is light without feeling disconnected and the body stays composed in normal cornering. Chrysler also uses active noise cancellation, acoustic windshield and front-door glass and extensive sealing to keep the cabin quiet. Those measures work; conversation between the first and third rows does not require the family to conduct business by megaphone.

The V6 provides strong, predictable acceleration and the nine-speed automatic generally goes about its work without calling attention to itself. Visibility is excellent, the driving position is natural and the 360-degree camera makes this 204-inch vehicle surprisingly easy to place in a parking space. The automatic all-wheel-drive system is invisible in dry conditions, which is a compliment, while providing an extra measure of confidence when the weather turns bad.

Fuel Economy and MSRP

EPA fuel-economy ratings are 17 miles per gallon in the city, 25 on the highway and 20 combined. Those figures are not class-leading, but they are the tradeoff for a conventional V6 and all-wheel drive. As equipped, this Pacifica carries an MSRP of $61,790.

Verdict

The 2027 refresh does not reinvent the Pacifica; it improves the parts owners see and use every day. The new exterior finally gives Chrysler's minivan a face that looks prepared for the next decade, while the Blue Agave interior makes the Pinnacle feel meaningfully different from the trims below it. Add the quiet ride, excellent seating, huge cargo capacity, sliding doors, strong V6 and thoughtful family technology, and the Pacifica remains one of the most complete people haulers on the market.

Sixty-one thousand dollars is serious money for any minivan, but the Pinnacle gives the buyer serious content in return. If maximum cargo flexibility matters more than the richer captain's chairs, I would compare it with a Select or Limited equipped with second-row Stow 'n Go. If comfort, appearance and rear-seat entertainment lead the list, the Pinnacle is the Pacifica to have.
