I spent the week with the refreshed 2026 Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek, the rugged member of Nissan's three-row Pathfinder family. The changes for 2026 are not a ground-up redesign, but they improve the areas owners see and use every day: fresher exterior styling, a far better 12.3-inch touchscreen and wireless smartphone integration. Underneath, the Rock Creek keeps the naturally aspirated V6, conventional nine-speed automatic and useful off-pavement hardware that make it stand apart from the regular Pathfinder.
Exterior
The Pathfinder gets revised front and rear fascias for 2026, along with updated lighting details and badges. Rock Creek adds its own black grille treatment, black exterior badging with Lava Red accents and a tubular roof rack. My test vehicle's Deep Ocean Blue Pearl paint and Super Black roof are a terrific combination, especially with the dark lower cladding. It looks adventurous without appearing to have raided an off-road accessory catalog with a stolen credit card.

The 18-inch beadlock-style alloy wheels wear 265/60R18 all-terrain tires, and the off-road-tuned suspension raises ground clearance to 7.7 inches. The broad shoulders, squared wheel openings and nearly upright rear end give it a substantial presence, while the wraparound taillights and large PATHFINDER lettering keep the back end clean and easy to recognize.
Powertrain
Under the hood is Nissan's familiar naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6. In Rock Creek trim it is rated at 295 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque when running premium fuel, compared with 284 horsepower and 259 pound-feet in the other Pathfinder models. It is connected to a conventional nine-speed automatic transmission, which remains one of this SUV's best decisions. There is no turbocharger to wait on and no continuously variable transmission trying to interpret your right foot.

Intelligent four-wheel drive is standard, and the drive-mode selector offers Auto, Eco, Sport, Tow, Snow, Sand and Mud/Rut settings. Hill-descent control, the off-road-tuned suspension and the all-terrain tires give Rock Creek genuine extra capability for ranch roads, muddy campsites and bad-weather travel. Nissan also rates it to tow up to 6,000 pounds, and the hitch receiver and wiring harness are standard.
Interior
Inside, Rock Creek mixes cloth and leatherette upholstery with water-resistant inserts, Lava Red stitching and embroidered logos on the front seats.
The seats are supportive and comfortable, and the orange-red accents add personality without turning the cabin into a theme park. The dash remains straightforward, and Nissan wisely keeps physical controls for the climate system beneath the center screen.

The biggest day-to-day improvement is the standard 12.3-inch NissanConnect touchscreen. It is bright, quick to understand and dramatically more appropriate for a vehicle in this price range. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with SiriusXM, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hot spot and NissanConnect services. The seven-inch driver-information display is flanked by conventional gauges, a layout I still appreciate because the important information is right where you expect it.

The center console has the compact electronic shifter, large cupholders, the electronic parking brake, Auto Hold, the drive-mode dial and an easy-to-find switch for disabling the automatic stop-start system. There is useful storage under the bridge-style console, plus USB-C ports and a 12-volt outlet up front. My tester's Premium Package adds a wireless charging pad and heated steering wheel.
Second Row, Third Row and Cargo
The $2,270 Premium Package replaces the standard second-row bench with reclining captain's chairs and a removable center console, reducing seating capacity from eight to seven. The chairs slide and recline, and second-row passengers get their own climate controls, air vents and charging ports. The panoramic moonroof and rear-door sunshades also come with the package.

Nissan's EZ FLEX system makes third-row access simple, and the second-row seats can tilt and slide even with a child seat installed. The third row is best suited to children or smaller adults on short trips; Nissan lists 28 inches of legroom back there. Cargo space is 16.6 cubic feet with all three rows in use and expands to 80.5 cubic feet with the rear rows folded. A concealed storage compartment under the cargo floor is handy for items you would rather keep out of sight.
Features, Options and Safety
Standard Rock Creek equipment includes heated front seats, an eight-way power driver's seat with two-way lumbar support, remote start, a power liftgate, LED headlights and fog lights, the tubular roof rack, trailer hitch, HD Intelligent Around View Monitor and ProPILOT Assist. The camera system is especially useful because it can show multiple angles around the vehicle when parking or easing around an obstacle.
ProPILOT Assist combines adaptive cruise control with steering assistance, but it remains a hands-on system and the driver stays responsible. The safety list also includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot warning and intervention, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automatic braking, lane-departure warning with lane intervention, high-beam assist, driver-attention alert and forward-collision warning. The 2026 Pathfinder received a five-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Ride and Drive
The Pathfinder Rock Creek does a good job balancing its adventurous mission with normal family duty. The V6 delivers smooth, confident acceleration, and the nine-speed automatic shifts cleanly without calling attention to itself. The off-road suspension and tall-sidewall tires absorb rough pavement well, while body movement stays controlled for a three-row SUV. You can hear a little more tire rumble than in the street-oriented trims, but the cabin remains quiet at highway speed.
Steering is light enough for parking lots but settles down nicely on the road, and visibility is good in every direction. This is not a rock crawler in the body-on-frame sense, but it is far more than an appearance package. For the dirt roads, ranch trails, snow and weekend towing most owners will actually encounter, Rock Creek supplies useful capability without punishing everyone during the Monday-through-Friday portion of life.
Fuel Economy
The EPA rates the 2026 Pathfinder Rock Creek at 20 mpg in the city, 23 on the highway and 21 combined. Its 18.49-gallon fuel tank provides a theoretical combined range of roughly 388 miles. Remember that the advertised 295 horsepower and 270 pound-feet are based on premium gasoline; the Monroney also lists premium as the recommended fuel.
What You'll Pay
The test vehicle starts at $45,000 on its Monroney. The $2,270 Premium Package adds the panoramic moonroof, rear-door sunshades, second-row captain's chairs, removable second-row console, heated steering wheel, cargo-area 12-volt outlet and wireless charging pad. Premium two-tone paint adds $1,000, the all-season floor liners and cargo-area protector add $400, and destination is $1,545. Total MSRP is $50,215.
Verdict
The 2026 Pathfinder Rock Creek is a strong value for buyers who need three rows, real towing capacity and more traction and clearance than the typical family crossover provides. The new 12.3-inch screen corrects the cabin's most obvious weakness, while the V6 and conventional automatic continue to make the powertrain easy to like. The third row is still mainly kid territory and the Premium Package pushes this tester just over $50,000, but the combination of comfort, style and capability is hard to dismiss. It looks ready for the trail, behaves itself in town and will pull 6,000 pounds when the boat starts hinting that it would like to come along.
