2026 Ford F-150 King Ranch PowerBoost Hybrid Review

This week, I am back in one of my favorite versions of America’s favorite pickup, the Ford F-150 King Ranch PowerBoost full hybrid. I reviewed a 2025 model a year ago and said that if I were personally shopping for a truck, the PowerBoost would be high on my list. The 2026 truck does nothing to change my mind. It combines the room and luxury of a King Ranch SuperCrew with strong hybrid performance and a 7.2-kilowatt Pro Power Onboard system that can turn the truck into a serious source of electricity.

My tester is a four-wheel-drive SuperCrew with the 145-inch wheelbase. Last year’s truck was Rapid Red with 22-inch wheels; this one takes a very different approach with Star White Metallic Tri-Coat paint, Marsh Gray lower accents and 20-inch chrome-like PVD wheels wrapped in 275/60R20 all-season tires. The white and gray combination is understated, but the bronze grille accents and King Ranch badging make sure nobody mistakes it for a work-truck special.

If you are not from Texas, the King Ranch name may require an introduction. King Ranch was established in South Texas in 1853 and grew into one of the largest ranches in the United States. Ford and King Ranch joined forces on an F-Series edition in 2001. The idea has always been to combine truck capability with genuine Western luxury, and the 2026 cabin shows why the partnership has lasted.

Performance

The PowerBoost system starts with Ford’s 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 and adds an electric motor and lithium-ion battery. Combined output remains 430 horsepower and 570 pound-feet of torque, delivered through a hybrid 10-speed automatic transmission. The electric motor supplies immediate low-speed assistance, fills in the gaps while the transmission shifts and helps make a large pickup feel much quicker than its size suggests.

This truck has four-wheel drive, a no-charge 3.73 electronic-locking rear axle and the 7,400-pound GVWR Package. The PowerBoost can move under electric power during light-load situations, and regenerative braking recovers energy as the truck slows. The transitions between gasoline and electric operation are generally so smooth that the instrument display is often the easiest way to know what the powertrain is doing.

Pro Power Onboard

The most important PowerBoost advantage may be what happens after you park. This truck has the optional 7.2-kilowatt Pro Power Onboard system, an $850 upgrade that converts the hybrid pickup into a mobile power source with as much as 7,200 watts of total output. That is real generator-level capability, not merely a household outlet added to the bed for charging a phone.

The outlet panel photographed in the driver-side wall of the bed has one covered 240-volt, 30-amp outlet marked for a maximum of 7,200 watts, plus two covered 120-volt, 20-amp outlet banks marked for as much as 2,400 watts each. The 120-volt banks provide the familiar style of connection for tools, lights, appliances and tailgating equipment, while the 240-volt connection opens the door to much more demanding equipment. The full 7.2 kilowatts is the system’s combined capacity; it is not 7.2 kilowatts from every outlet at the same time.

That distinction matters because this is powerful enough to run several meaningful loads at once. On a jobsite, it can support multiple tools without hauling a separate generator. At a campsite or tailgate, it can operate cooking equipment, lights, televisions and other gear. During an outage, 7,200 watts can keep a useful collection of household essentials operating if the loads are managed properly. It does not magically make every appliance in a house run at once, and nobody should ever backfeed household wiring through an ordinary wall outlet, but the available power is substantial.

The warning on the bed panel also makes an important point: the truck may start its gasoline engine automatically while it is supplying power, so the system is for outdoor use. In practice, the hybrid powertrain can cycle the engine as needed instead of forcing it to run constantly under every condition. The result is one vehicle that can provide transportation, four-wheel-drive capability and a 7.2-kilowatt power source without giving up bed space to a portable generator.

Exterior

The Star White Metallic Tri-Coat paint is a $995 option, and the Marsh Gray lower accent gives the truck the traditional two-tone King Ranch appearance. Up front, the chrome-surround grille carries bronze accents, and the standard lighting includes LED fog lamps, LED mirror spotlights and LED projector headlights with dynamic bending. Chrome exhaust tips, bright 20-inch wheels and the Running W emblems add just enough jewelry without turning the truck into a rolling belt buckle.

The bed is equipped for actual use. My tester has the Bed Utility Package, spray-in Tough Bed bedliner, wheel-well liners and a $1,280 hard tonneau cover. The cover protects cargo and gives the bed a finished appearance, while the bedliner surrounds the power panel and helps make this expensive truck less intimidating to use as a truck.

Interior

Opening the door remains the moment when the King Ranch separates itself from an ordinary F-150. The interior is listed as Java leather, but that simple description does not capture the mix of darker brown trim, lighter saddle-colored perforated leather, contrasting stitching, satin-finish metal and genuine wood accents.

The large Running W emblems are stitched into the seatbacks and embossed into the center armrest, while the doors carry prominent King Ranch metal plaques. The look is rich and unmistakably Western without becoming a theme-park version of Texas.

Both front bucket seats are 10-way power adjustable, and they are heated and ventilated. The driver’s seat, power-adjustable pedals and power tilt-and-telescoping steering column have memory. The steering wheel is heated and leather-wrapped, and the broad center armrest is positioned exactly where you want it on a long trip. The Bang & Olufsen-branded speaker grilles in the door and particularly nice detailing where the saddle-colored armrest meets the darker upper panel.

The 12-inch digital instrument cluster is clear and configurable, with the hybrid information integrated into the display rather than treated like an afterthought. In the center of the dash is another 12-inch screen running SYNC 4. It handles the rearview and 360-degree cameras, audio, phone, navigation and vehicle features, but Ford wisely retains physical knobs and buttons for commonly used audio and climate functions. A screen is helpful; having to negotiate with one just to change the temperature is not.

The Mobile Office Package is more than a clever name. The console shifter folds down at the touch of its button, leaving the center area clear for the work surface associated with the package. It is a smart solution because the shifter remains substantial and familiar while driving, then gets out of the way when the truck becomes an office, lunchroom or laptop station. Large cupholders, generous console storage and the wide front cabin complete a setup that can genuinely support a day spent working from the truck.

The twin-panel moonroof brightens a cabin that otherwise uses deep, warm colors, and the power-sliding rear window adds ventilation. The rear seat is enormous, with enough legroom and width for three adults. The outboard rear seats are heated, and the rear cushions can be raised to open up useful interior cargo room. This remains one of the best arguments for a SuperCrew: it can carry five adults in comfort and still provide protected space inside the cab for things you do not want left in the bed.

Pro Access Tailgate

The Pro Access Tailgate is a no-charge item on this particular truck, but it deserves its own discussion. From the outside it looks much like a conventional F-150 tailgate until you notice the vertical seams. The center section can swing open from the driver’s side toward the passenger side, creating a large walk-through opening and allowing you to stand much closer to the bed floor than you can with a full tailgate lying between you and the cargo.

The door can swing as far as 100 degrees, and Ford’s design allows the user to get as much as 19 inches closer to the bed. That difference is especially noticeable when reaching for something heavy or trying to work from the rear of the truck. With pickup beds getting taller, loading items has become harder and harder through the years, so this is a welcome edition for many people.

It will still operate as a conventional fold-down tailgate when that is the better tool for the job. It has a standard remote tailgate release, and this tester also has the $430 retractable rear center step beneath the bumper. The combination gives you three useful approaches: swing the center door open to step closer, lower the complete tailgate for a traditional platform, or use the rear step when climbing into the bed. The Pro Power Onboard outlets remain easy to reach on the driver’s side once the gate is open.

Standard Features

King Ranch standard equipment includes the 12-inch cluster and 12-inch SYNC 4 screen, 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, 5G modem, Bed Utility Package, Mobile Office Package, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, genuine wood accents, power-sliding rear window, remote start, rear parking sensors, lane-keeping system, Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert, Reverse Brake Assist and the Tow/Haul Package.

BlueCruise

The truck is equipped with Ford BlueCruise and a plan listed as one year plus 90 days. BlueCruise is a Level 2 driver-assistance system that can provide hands-free driving on compatible mapped highways while a driver-facing camera monitors attention. It can control steering, acceleration and braking, but the driver remains responsible for the truck and must be ready to take over.

Ford App and Connectivity

Ford’s app works with the truck’s connected features for functions such as remote starting, locking and unlocking, locating the vehicle and checking vehicle information. The Monroney lists a 5G modem, a one-time seven-year Connectivity Package priced at $745 and a three-year SiriusXM with 360L plan priced at $300. The exact availability of connected functions can depend on the service plan and network coverage, but the hardware and unusually long prepaid connectivity period are already accounted for on this truck’s sticker.

Options

Options total $8,895. They are Star White Metallic Tri-Coat paint ($995), the 3.5-liter PowerBoost full hybrid system ($1,340), twin-panel moonroof ($1,495), tray-style floor liners ($200), 7.2-kilowatt Pro Power Onboard ($850), retractable rear center step ($430), SecuriCode keyless keypad ($455), one-time seven-year Connectivity Package ($745), three-year SiriusXM with 360L plan ($300), wheel-well liners ($180), spray-in Tough Bed bedliner ($625) and hard tonneau cover ($1,280). The hybrid 10-speed automatic, 3.73 electronic-locking rear axle and Pro Access Tailgate are listed at no additional charge.

Final Pricing

The base price is $69,625. After $8,895 in options and a $2,595 destination charge, the total MSRP is $81,115. That is serious money, but this is also a serious piece of equipment: a luxury vehicle, family hauler, four-wheel-drive pickup, mobile office and 7.2-kilowatt power station in one package.

Fuel Economy

EPA fuel economy is 22 mpg in the city, 24 on the highway and 23 combined. Just as I found in the 2025 truck, the PowerBoost delivers strong, smooth acceleration, a quiet cabin and a ride that makes it easy to forget how much truck surrounds you. The tight turning radius makes this truck easier to drive and park in town, something you can’t say about many of the half-ton truck on the market.

Verdict

The interior remains the star, but the Pro Access Tailgate and 7.2-kilowatt Pro Power Onboard system are the features that make this F-150 unusually useful. Plenty of luxury pickups can provide beautiful leather and big screens. Far fewer can let you walk closer to the bed, create a mobile workspace inside and supply both 120- and 240-volt power outside. This King Ranch is comfortable and extremely capable, which is another way of saying it understands its audience very well.
