2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E Review

Written By: Jerry Reynolds | Sep 16, 2025 1:25:01 PM

This week I am looking at and evaluating the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E all-electric SUV.  This vehicle was first introduced in 2021 and has been a solid seller ever since.  It is interesting to note the change in pricing.  In 2021, the base price of this EV was over $47,000.  Today, it is $36,495.  That is more than $10,000 less despite many improvements.  This is a testament to the electric vehicle market as a whole.  The big debate back in 2021 was the name Mustang being attached to something other than a hotrod gas powered coupe.  This debate has subsided some, but true Mustang enthusiasts are still rubbed wrong when you broach the topic.

Exterior

Although Glacier Gray is not my favorite color, I still like the looks of this SUV.  It rides on beautiful 19” wheels and notice that there are no door handles, there are illuminated buttons to push that pop the doors open.

It appears to have a very swooping roofline, but this is an optical illusion, the roof is actually level inside. A pony adorns the front grill and rear hatch and I love the Mustang sequential taillights.

Performance

Since there is nothing to look at under the hood, let’s talk about what powers the Mach-E. This particular 2025 Mustang Mach-E is the standard-range, rear-wheel-drive model and it uses a single electric motor on the rear axle paired with a 73-kWh battery. It delivers about 264-horsepower and 387 pound-feet of torque, good for roughly 260 miles of EPA-estimated range. You can also step up to the 88-kWh extended-range battery in rear- or dual-motor all-wheel drive, or you can choose the 91-kWh pack reserved for the GT and Rally trims, which use a dual-motor setup tuned for up to 480-horsepower and as much as 700 pound-feet of torque if you really want to have some fun!

For 2025, the Mach-E comes in the base trim called Select, which is the one I am reviewing, then you can move up to Premium, GT, and the new Rally trim, each offering different combinations of battery size, drivetrain, and performance features.

Interior

Pop the electric door open and you find attractive simulated leather ActiveX seating, and then you see the massive 15.5” touchscreen that literally operates everything and doubles as a terrific 360-degree backup camera.

The screen operates the sound system, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, charge settings, and the owner’s manual can be read digitally.  During research, Ford found out people like a volume knob for their sound system and they integrated a huge one at the bottom of the screen, or you can adjust volume from the steering wheel control.

Touch the Mach-E logo at the top left of the screen and you’ll find all the Mach-E’s settings including the drive modes of Engage, Whisper, (which preserves the most battery), and then there is Unbridled, the performance setting.  You can also turn on simulated engine sounds called Propulsion and a lot more.

The screen will also allow you to set driver profiles for up to three people, find the nearest charging station to you through the navigation system, and you can operate Alexa through voice commands. You can sync your smart phone to use it to lock and unlock the SUV, remotely start it, open the trunk, and even roll the windows up and down with just your cell phone. Built-in Alexa lets you add items to your Amazon shopping list or check the weather without taking your hands off the wheel.

The Mach-E’s digital gauge cluster is a slim 10.2-inch display that shows speed, range, battery status, and driver-assist alerts in a clean, minimalist layout. It’s designed to give essential information at a glance without overwhelming the driver. On top of the Mach-E’s steering column is the driver-monitoring camera that works with Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free driving system, keeping an eye on whether you’re paying attention to the road.  More on BlueCruise below.

Leg and headroom are good for both front and rear passengers and Mach-E has a nice center console with a built-in phone charger, USB and USB-C ports, a place to sit your cell phone, a deep storage bin with a sliding armrest, and cupholders positioned for easy reach, all finished in clean, modern trim to complement the minimalist cabin.  Since the last Mach-E I had, Ford has gotten rid of the rotary dial and now utilizes a stalk on the steering wheel to operate the transmission.

The back seat is comfortable with a flat floor that makes the middle position more usable, rear air vents, and USB-C charging ports, with seatbacks that fold down to expand cargo space.

Utility

Speaking of cargo, the Mach-E’s cargo area provides a wide opening with about 30 cubic feet behind the rear seats, expandable to over 60 cubic feet when back seats are folded down, plus you get the front trunk for extra storage.

The “frunk” adds about 4.7 cubic feet of drainable, washable storage under the hood, sized for a small cooler or carry-on bag, and it even has molded cupholders for tailgating or road trips.

Standard

Mach-E Select comes standard with 19-inch wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry with push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, tilt wheel, ActiveX seats, the 15.5-inch touchscreen with SYNC 4A, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 6-speaker audio system, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat.  You also get one year of Ford’s semi-self0driving system BlueCruise that works on pre-mapped highways, keeping the Mach-E centered in its lane, managing speed and distance, and now even handling automatic lane changes when you signal.  One feature Ford owners love is the SecuriCode keyless-entry keypad on the driver’s door, a hidden-capacitive version that lets you lock and unlock all doors, or even pop the frunk with just a numeric code. Just enter your code then hit 3·4 for full access, or 5·6 to release the frunk.  9-10 locks everything back and you can set your own 5-digit code instead of using the one assigned by Ford.  This comes standard on all Mach-E’s.

Options

Options on my tester include a $995 charge for the paint, $795 for the 1-year subscription to the Connect Package which bundles connected navigation, Alexa Built-in, a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot, streaming apps like YouTube and car-a-oke, and over-the-air software updates.

Then there is an $800 charge for the Ford Mobile Power Cord lets you charge the Mach-E from either a standard 120-volt household outlet for slow overnight top-offs or a 240-volt outlet for much faster Level 2 charging, and you get the Ford FST (Fast Charging Standard) adapter which is the plug accessory that lets Mach-E owners use Tesla’s Supercharger network, converting the Mach-E’s CCS port to fit Tesla’s NACS connector for DC fast charging.

Safety

Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane keeping system, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, rear parking sensors, and automatic high beams.

Charging Times

Let’s talk about charging times.  Using a DC fast charger, the Mach-E can add about 60–65 miles of range in 10 minutes and reach 10 to 80 percent in roughly 36 minutes, while a 240-volt Level 2 home charger takes around 8 to 10 hours for a full charge depending on the battery size.

On a standard 110-volt household outlet, the Mach-E gains only about 3 miles of range per hour, so a full charge from empty will take several days.  As I write this review in early September 2025, U.S. buyers qualify for a complimentary home Level 2 charger with standard installation.

Ride and Drive

The Mach-E delivers smooth, quiet acceleration with plenty of instant torque, balanced rear-wheel-drive handling, and a comfortable ride that feels more like a sporty crossover than a traditional SUV.  Interior quietness is very good.

I’m a big fan of one-pedal driving, which the Mach-E provides. This lets you control both acceleration and deceleration using only the accelerator pedal: lift your foot and the car slows down via regenerative braking, reducing or often eliminating the need to touch the brake pedal except for coming to a full stop or in emergencies. It’s especially handy in stop-and-go traffic, helping you avoid frequent pedal work and giving more control over smooth deceleration. Some drivers say it takes a little time to get used to the feel—coasting no longer happens automatically, so you learn to “feed” the pedal less, modulating speed with lift rather than braking.  When you are slowing, you feed power to the battery through friction from the brakes. When you learn this technique, it’s awesome.

MSRP and MPGe

MSRP as you see this one is $40,830 before the $7500 federal tax credit if you purchase by September 30, 2025.  After that, check with a CarPro Ford dealer to see what incentives are available.

MPGe is the EPA’s way of comparing an EV’s efficiency to a gasoline vehicle, showing how many miles the Mach-E can travel on the energy equivalent of one gallon of gas.  This one is rated at 111 MPGe city, 103 MPGe highway, and 107 MPGe combined.
