2025 Chevrolet Blazer SS All-Electric SUV Review

Written By: Jerry Reynolds | Jun 3, 2025 1:37:26 PM

This week I spent time in a beautiful and extremely fast 2025 Chevy Blazer SS all-electric SUV. SS in a Chevy stands for Super Sport and since 1961 it has meant the pinnacle of performance from the bow tie boys at Chevrolet.  This Blazer is a super-fast SUV and a joy to spend time in.  This is another electric vehicle that if you are looking for performance, you have to look past the fact that it is electric and just drive it and look at the stats.  This is, in fact, the fastest Chevy SS ever built.

Be aware that there are other Chevy Blazer electrics that are not as expensive as this one, but of course, is not a quick either.  I reviewed the 2025 Blazer RS earlier and it was rated at 288-horses and was only a couple of thousand dollars less, but there have been price reductions since then.  You should also know that for 2024 the Blazer was also available in a gas version, but for 2025 they are all electric.

Exterior

The Blazer SS I have has sharp looking body lines, beautiful 22” machined aluminum wheels, a rear spoiler, a swooping roofline that looks terrific, and I love the Riptide Blue paint color.

This SUV emits a very sporty look, and you’d likely never know this was an electric car.  It doesn’t scream “look at me!”  If Chevy ever decided to make a Camaro SUV like Ford did with the Mustang Mach-E, this would be it.

The bow tie in the grill is illuminated at night, and you cannot miss the huge performance brake calipers, which you’ll need as fast as this thing goes.

Powertrain

The Blazer SS EV is powered by a 102-kWh battery rated at a total of 615-horsepower.  My tester is the all-wheel drive version, so it has electric motors in the front and the rear.

This setup includes a 220-horsepower front motor and a 365-horsepower rear motor, combining to deliver a total output of 615 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque when utilizing the Wide Open Watts (WOW) mode.  More on that later. Range is always the big question and this one is rated at 303-miles. Here’s the best part: 0-to-60 time is just 3.4-seconds, which doesn’t seem possible in an SUV, but the acceleration is dizzying.

Interior

Inside the Blazer SS it has Evotex (man-made leather) & Suede two-tone seats in dark and light gray with orange accents on the seats and throughout the cabin.

All occupants get orange seatbelts as well, and I have to tell you, it really works and I’m not a fan of the color orange.  The interior layout is stunning upon first glance.

As soon as you enter the cabin, you will notice a huge 17.7” touchscreen that looks awesome.  In front of the driver are the 11” digital gauges which give you your speed, your battery range, the time, temperature outside, which gear you are in, the day and date, and your odometer. Gauges are easy to read and colorful, they are also highly configurable.  You can change the different looks of the gauge cluster including putting the navigation system full screen directly in front of you.

The huge center screen operates the Bose stereo, SiriusXM, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi hotspot, the Google maps navigation system, and a huge group of apps including Alexa, drive modes, and a charging app which you can use to direct yourself to one of the many public chargers that are available. The center console has a couple of cup holders, a center glove box, a wireless phone charger, and the air conditioning controls sit just above that.

Also from the screen, you can choose drive modes including normal, sport, snow/ice, My Mode, and Z Mode, which is my favorite. Z Mode is an exclusive drive mode designed to enhance a dynamic driving experience. This mode allows you to customize various vehicle parameters, including acceleration response, steering sensitivity, brake feel, and electric motor sound.  Additionally, Z Mode offers a "Competitive Mode," which adjusts the vehicle's stability and traction control systems to provide a more engaging driving experience, particularly suited for track conditions.  This mode is designed to be user-friendly, ensuring that drivers can easily tailor the vehicle's performance characteristics to their preferences.

This is also where you find "Wide Open Watts" (WOW) mode, a performance feature designed to unlock the vehicle's full potential. When activated, WOW mode boosts the Blazer EV SS's output from its standard 515-horsepower to the full 615-horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque.  When you push the WOW button, it changes the screen and emits a cool sound, see the short video I took.  It's important to note that WOW mode remains active until manually turned off or the vehicle is powered down. While this mode delivers exhilarating performance, it also increases energy consumption, which can reduce the vehicle's driving range. Therefore, it's advisable to use WOW mode judiciously, especially when range is a concern

The use of Google Built-in is pretty neat.  Google Assistant lets you get hands-free help to call or text friends, listen to music, set reminders, or even control the temperature. Just say “Hey Google,” press the Google Assistant icon or press the PUSH-TO-TALK button to get started.  Google maps gives you all the trip information you need – such as live traffic updates and charging station locations, and Google Play allows you to easily download some of your favorite apps, music, podcasts, audiobooks and more, directly through the touchscreen for an in-vehicle experience that’s easier and safer to use than your phone. I was amused to find the PBS Kids app, but the video will not play unless the vehicle is stationary.

Moving to the back seat, there is a surprising amount of leg room and good headroom, and it has USBs, air vents, and a 110-volt power outlet for charging your devices.

Cargo area is very good at 50-cubic feet of cargo area with the two back seats folded down, 25.8-cubic feet with the back seat up, and there is additional storage under the load floor.  This is also where you store the charging cable and adapters depending on how you are charging the Blazer EV.

Standard Features

Standard equipment includes remote start, Bose stereo, power driver’s seat (8-way), power passenger seat (6-way) heated & air conditioned front seats, rear seat reminder, rear camera mirror, power exterior mirrors, heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, power liftgate, teen driver, an Auto Hold button, and LED headlights and taillights, and Super Cruise.  Note that Blazer does not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

The Super Cruise self-driving system is by far the best I have experienced.  In short, GM has driven and mapped out over 750,000 miles of divided highways all across America.  If you are on an approved road, you’ll get a green light on the dash.  Set the cruise control, hit the Super Cruise, and the vehicle literally drives itself. If you want to change lanes, turn on your blinker and it will make sure there is enough room and will change lanes for you.  A camera on the steering wheel monitors your eyes to make sure you are engaged.  If not, you get a verbal warning.  After that, the car will start to slow down, the flashers come on, and it will safely get you off the road and OnStar will call for help.  This is in case the driver is incapacitated.

Safety

On the safety front, you get lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, front pedestrian and bicycle braking, safety alert seat, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, reverse automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, and HD surround view rear camera that works great!

Options

My review vehicle has $2,185 in options, including a $1,495 panoramic power moon roof with power sliding cover, the $395 Performance Package which gives you the big brake rotors and pads and summer tires, and there is a $295 charge for a dual-level charging cord.

Cool Features

One feature I really enjoyed was one-pedal driving.  Some people don’t like it, but when you get good at using it, you’ll only hit your brakes in emergency situations.  The Blazer SS immediately starts to slow down when you take your foot off the gas.  The friction from the deceleration sends a charge back to the battery to extend the range.  When the one-pedal driving system brings the SUV to a full stop, the Auto Hold brake comes on until you hit the accelerator again.  I spent the entire week using the one-pedal driving.

The other thing I liked is when you get in the driver’s seat with the key in your pocket or purse and put your foot on the brake, the vehicle comes on by itself.  This was weird at first, but then I grew to really like the fact there was no start button.  Being electric there is no sound, but the entire huge screen comes alive.  When you put it in park, let your foot off the brake, and open a door it turns itself off or there is a button on the screen to manually turn the vehicle off.  This was a really neat feature and cuts out the step of hitting a start button every time you get in or out of the SUV.

There were more cool features I discovered while studying this SUV such as the power tailgate.  You can open it from inside the vehicle, by the key fob, with a pushbutton on the tailgate itself, OR if you have the key on you and stand behind the tailgate for a few seconds, it will open by itself.  How handy would that be with your hands full?   Also, it has a rear camera washer, something usually found on SUVs that are twice this price.

One other feature of note is the door to open the charging port.  Located on the left front fender, there is a place to press your finger and the door electronically opens and gives you access to the charging port.  It’s a little slow to open, but still looks better than a manual opening door like a gas cap cover, plus it is a bit of a novelty.

Charging

Charging times are good.  With a DC fast charger, you can go from 10 to 80-miles of range in 34-minutes. With a level 2 charger as I have in my garage, you can get to a full 100% charge in roughly 9 hours.  With a 110-outlet like your wall plugs at home, it’s a long process, days actually. At a 110 regular garage outlet, you can gain about 3 miles of range for every hour of charging, so over 100 hours to get to a full charge.  Don’t even try it.

MPGe and  MSRP

Fuel economy, in terms of electric miles per gallon is terrific at 92-MPGe in town and 77-MPGe on the highway, a combined of 85-MPGe.  MSRP on this top-of-the-line, super loaded SUV with everything is $64,180 before the $7,500 federal rebate and other factory incentives from GM.

Ride and Drive

This SUV is a real joy to drive, it is super quiet, and words do not adequately describe the acceleration of it.  Handling is wonderful with that big battery under the floorboard, and I really enjoyed the steering feedback.
