2024 Cadillac XT4 Sport Review

Written By: Jerry Reynolds | Apr 2, 2024 1:13:06 PM

This week we are taking a look at a very attractive compact SUV, and the least expensive Cadillac SUV you can buy, the redesigned 2024 Cadillac XT4 Sport that competes with the likes of the Acura RDX, Lexus NX, Lincoln Corsair, and many others in this very popular segment.

XT4 comes in three trims, the Luxury, then you move up to the Premium Luxury, and what I am reviewing, the Sport version, which is extremely attractive in Crystal White Tricoat.

Exterior

The XT4 is all Cadillac on the exterior and this is one of the areas that was redone for 2024.  It has the long vertical headlights and a bold grill that is black mesh and unique to the sport.  It has sharp-looking 20” wheels and GM set those wheels out to the corners of the SUV, giving it a wide, aggressive stance.

From behind, you see the spoiler with the rear wiper hidden under it, new taillights, and dual exhaust.  You’ll see lots of black exterior trim on the exterior, which is part of the Sport trim.

Powertrain

Under the hood you’ll find a 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that is putting out 235-horses and 258-pound feet of torque.  It has a shiftable 9-speed automatic that has paddle shifters on the steering wheel, and my tester is all-wheel drive.

Interior

Open the driver’s door to reveal a truly luxurious interior with massaging cooled and heated front seats with power lumbar supports, and lots of stitching and carbon fiber all around.  It is noticeable how well laid out the interior is and how easy it is to reach everything.

New for 2024 is a massive one-piece 33” digital gauge cluster that flows into an infotainment screen.  The big screen stretches from the driver’s door, to about halfway into the passenger area and it is slightly curved.  It is quite impressive and appears to have been taken out of the Cadillac Lyriq electric SUV.  Looking through the windshield you see a vibrant head-up display.

The center console is well done with an easy to use shifter, you can turn off the start/stop system, and choose from the Tour, Offroad, or Sport drive modes.  There is a round knob that operates the infotainment screen or you can use it as a touchscreen if you prefer.  A sliding door hides USB ports and storage.  There are shortcut buttons for the system just below the gear shifter, and an actual volume knob. The soft center glove box/armrest houses a phone charger, more USBs and a power outlet.

Just above that are two rows of easy-to-use buttons for climate controls, 3-stage heated and cooled seats, park assist, and lane keep assist.

From the big screen, you operate the Google infotainment system which includes the 14-speaker AKG Premium audio, Bluetooth, navigation, Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto.  You can swipe left twice for even more and to add your own apps.  The system is one of the fastest I’ve ever experienced. The voice recognition works very well, a bit of a rarity these days.

The 2nd-row bench seat will seat three people and they’ll be plenty of leg and headroom.  They will also get air vents, USB ports and a fold down armrest.

Cargo area is roomy with an underneath storage area that also houses your inflator kit instead of a spare tire.  You have 23-cubic feet or cargo area and when you fold the 2nd-row seat down it expands to 49-cubic feet.

Standard Equipment and Options

XT4 comes well-equipped with blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, a fantastic rear camera, and dual power seats, and front and rear parking alerts.  It also has a power tilt steering wheel, keyless remote start, and a power lift gate that is foot- activated.

My tester has $12,000 in options, which includes the Comfort and Convenience package with the leather massaging seats that heat and cool.  The Active Safety System with adaptive cruise control, speed limit assist, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, rear pedestrian alert, emergency braking both forward and in reverse.

Also optional is a dual panel sliding moon roof, the 20” multi-spoke alloy wheels, the upgraded sound system, heated steering wheel, and heated second row captain chairs.

It also has the back seat reminder, which will warn you when you get to your destination if you put anything in the back seat like a child or pet, and a rearview camera mirror.

Ride and Drive

The strong acceleration surprised me, and the ride and handling are both very good.  XT4 is incredibly quiet inside, and back seat legroom will easily fit people 6-feet tall.  There is a small amount of engine noise upon heavy acceleration, but that is typical with 4-cylinder turbos.

What You'll Pay

Fuel economy is rated at 23 in the city, 28 on the highway, which is good for an all-wheel SUV that tips the scales at almost 3,800-pounds.  Base price on the all-wheel Sport version is $44,495, but equipped like this one, it is $57,815.
