2022 Genesis G80 Sport Prestige Review

This week, I have a beautiful, luxury sedan for you, the 2022 Genesis G80 Sport Prestige.

Exterior

This G80 is a head-turner for sure with 20” wheels and larger tires on the rear, the huge Genesis grill, and dual exhaust, all wrapped in a beautiful Siberian Ice color.  I particularly love the side marker lights on the front fenders.

Performance

Under the hood you’ll find a 3.5-liter V6 with twin turbos putting out 375-horses and 391-pound feet of torque.  It is hooked to an 8-speed automatic with shift paddles.  Top speed is 155-miles per hour and it will take you from 0-to-60 in just 4.6 seconds.  For even more performance, this model comes with all-wheel drive and four-wheel steering.

Interior

Opening the door is a real treat when you see very comfortable leather power seats that are also heated and cooled.  The adjustments will get you comfortable, there are thigh supports that extend, and the driver’s seat will even give you a massage.  Sculpted carbon fiber runs from the door panels across the dash and it is beautiful.

There is a massive 12.3” 3D digital gauge cluster that is super easy to read.  When you turn either blinker on, a camera shows you on the gauges if there is anything in your blind spot.

The infotainment system is ultra-wide but not overly tall and operates the navigation system, 21-speaker Lexicon sound system, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi.  A swipe to the left gives you a second page of controls and gives you seat settings including massage mode, climate, and quiet mode which will turn off the rear speakers if there are sleeping kids.

Under the screen are shortcut buttons and air conditioning controls, just below that are two USBs and a wireless phone charger hidden underneath a sliding door.

The center console has a rotary dial to operate the infotainment screen, although I must say it is hard to operate and has quite a learning curve.  I prefer to just use the touchscreen, although reaching the far right side is a challenge. Under that is a rotary dial for the transmission, and always my favorite, the auto hold button.

Under the cupholders are the drive modes.  You can choose from comfort, sport, my favorite:  Sport PLUS, and custom.  You also operate the parking sensors and parking view from there.

The back seat is very limo-like and bolstered for comfort.  There are air conditioning vents back there which the passengers can control, there is a large fold down console with cupholders and switches for the heated seats, and the back seat passenger can slide the front passenger seat forward.  There are window shades for both back seat passengers.

Trunk space is really good and has an electric open and close function for the trunk lid, and there is a compact spare underneath.

Standard Equipment

The G80 comes loaded with notable features like a huge panoramic moon roof, keyless entry and remote start, power and heated tilt steering wheel, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, a power rear window shade, a terrific head-up display, and a must-have feature for any of my personal cars: soft closing doors.  One note on the head-up display, it will also show you if there is a car to your left or right.

On the safety side, you get adaptive cruise control with stop and go, forward collision assistance, pedestrian warning, blind spot warning, lane keeping assist,  driver attention warning, and rear seat alert.

Cool Features

One really cool feature is Remote Smart Parking Assist, which allows you to safely park the G80 anywhere from OUTSIDE the car using the key fob.  Not sure how often you’ll use it, but it is amazing.  One more feature I think should be standard on every car:  The Genesis alerts you if the car in front of you is driving away and you are sitting still.  What a tool to help prevent road rage.

Ride and Drive

The G80 drive dynamics are wonderful.  The all-wheel system plants you to the road, and the four-wheel steering gives you incredible handling in turns and sharp curves.  Acceleration is very strong, especially in Sport Plus mode, and the exhaust has a great sound, but not overwhelming.

Fuel Economy and What You'll Pay

Fuel economy is fine at 17 city and 26 highway, especially considering the horsepower and that it weighs 4,500 pounds.  For a luxury sedan, with so many nice options and features, the MSRP of $71,595 makes the G80 and exceptional value compared to the competition.  Don’t forget you get a 10-year/100,000 mile power train warranty and 3-years of free maintenance also.

Verdict

I am very impressed with the G80 Sport Prestige and would highly recommend it for anyone looking at large, luxury sedans.
