Toyota Leads 3rd Quarter 2023 National Auto Sales

Written By: Jerry Reynolds | Oct 5, 2023 12:31:00 PM

The 3rd quarter sales results are in for most automakers, and the resurgence from Covid and the microchip shortage continued in the past quarter, just in time for the UAW strike to send the numbers tumbling this month.

Just about all automakers were up for the quarter.  Toyota and Honda continued to improve after being hit hard by the chip shortage.  Stellantis struggled the past quarter, with Dodge, Jeep, and Ram all three in decline.  Toyota outsold Ford by close to 40,000 vehicles.

Ford continues to dominate truck sales in Q3 and increased its lead over Chevrolet for the year by almost 170,000 pickups.

We won’t hear from Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar Land Rover until later in the month.  The all-electric automakers do not report actual sales and are not included below.
