SUVs continued to be the rage in 2023, as more people transition from cars to SUVs. There were also more SUV choices available to people in 2023 than any other year before. SUV totals for 2023 came in at over 8 million vehicles, versus SUV sales in 2022 that topped 6.8 million, so an increase of over 1.1 million sales in just one year. Of course, all auto sales were off in 2022 due to supplier shortages, mainly microchips.
When all was said and done, the Toyota RAV4 was once again the top seller, followed by the Honda CR-V, but it wasn’t much of a race. Almost all SUVs were up in 2023 versus the full year of 2022. CR-V chalked up a whopping 52% increase over the year before. The completely redesigned Chevy Trax saw an increase of 311% in 2023 over the prior year.
