The Most Talked About Cars On Reddit By State

Written By: CarPro | Sep 12, 2025 6:10:40 AM

A new study is revealing America's most popular car brands by state.  The study by Medina Auto Mall analyzed thousands of Reddit comments across state-specific subreddits. The findings, shared with us via email, show that Tesla, Ford, and Chevrolet are the most talked-about car brands on the social media platform. It also found that regional loyalties and lifestyle factors explain why certain brands rise to the top in specific corners of the country.

The study found:

Tesla reigns supreme in 14 states, including California, Texas, New York, and Massachusetts. Researchers say that's no surprise given these are some of the nation’s largest EV markets, where charging infrastructure is expanding fast. Conversations often revolve around the Model 3 and Model Y, with Redditors debating Autopilot quirks, range anxiety, and how Tesla’s hold up in extreme climates.

Tesla is also the most mentioned brand overall with 8,661 comments across all states.

Ford takes the top spot in 13 states, stretching across the Midwest and South. It’s especially strong in places like Michigan, Kentucky, and Georgia, regions where the F-150 and Ranger remain staples of rural life and road trips alike.

On Reddit, users gush about towing power, farm reliability, and classic Mustang nostalgia. Ford ranks second overall in mentions (7,241 comments).

Chevy claims the crown in 11 states, including Florida, Illinois, and Ohio. Researchers credit it dominance to the popularity of the Silverado and Tahoe, both praised for family versatility and long-haul comfort.

In colder states like Minnesota and Wisconsin, Redditors often weigh in on winter handling and upcoming EV models, especially the Silverado EV. With 5,888 mentions nationwide, Chevrolet's heartland presence is impossible to ignore.

Jeep leads in 7 states, including Colorado, Utah, Hawaii, and Maine, where rugged terrain and outdoor culture make off-roading a natural pastime.

Wrangler and Cherokee owners fill Reddit threads with trail stories, modification tips, and photos of their Jeeps in jaw-dropping landscapes. Nationwide, Jeep generated 4,888 mentions.

“Reddit gives us a raw, unfiltered look into car culture. "You’ll find people trading advice on how to squeeze the best mileage out of a Ford F-150, debating Tesla’s Autopilot quirks, or sharing photos of Jeeps conquering muddy trails. Those posts build communities and influence what people think about a brand before they ever set foot in a dealership.

Some brands may only dominate in a single state, but their fans are loud and proud:

  • Dodge/Ram in North Dakota (fueled by pickup culture and towing needs).
  • GMC in Oklahoma, where drivers praise durability and hauling strength.
  • Lincoln in South Carolina, with discussions centered on luxury SUVs.
  • Buick in South Dakota, reflecting a preference for comfortable sedans.
  • Chrysler in West Virginia, often tied to affordability and accessibility.

Why do Reddit comments matter?

According to Alex, spokesperson for Medina Auto Mall, the study shows something that raw sales data often can’t capture, and that is the emotional side of car ownership.

“Sales numbers tell you what people drive, but Reddit tells you what people actually care about,” Alex explained. "When someone heads online to talk about their truck, SUV, or EV, they’re usually sharing a personal experience, whether it’s excitement over a new feature, frustration with a repair, or just pride in a vehicle they love.”

Those posts build communities and influence what people think about a brand before they ever set foot in a dealership. If you see dozens of people in your state praising a model for handling snow or hauling heavy loads, that can be more persuasive than an ad. It shows how powerful online communities have become in shaping buyer decisions.”
