Nissan & Infiniti Expand SignatureFLEX Lease Program

We first told you about Nissan and Infiniti's SignatureFLEX lease plan two years ago this month. It allows drivers to buy additional miles if they're about to exceed their set mileage limits.  This can help avoid costly over-the-limit mileage fees, and in doing so, give lessees peace of mind.

In a follow-up, we have some good news:  the automakers are expanding the program for legacy contracts. This means the program will now allow lessees with legacy leases to purchase more miles during their leasing term, and soon, customers will be able to make in-vehicle mileage purchases.

Car Pro Show host Jerry Reynolds has been a fan of the plan from the start, and applauds the programs expansion.

"I hope the other manufacturer lease companies pay attention and follow suit here," said Car Pro Show Host Jerry Reynolds. "Sometimes after you sign a lease, your situation changes, I’ve seen it many times. Nissan and Infiniti have come up with a great way to help in those situations."

Nissan and Infiniti say the expansion will include drivers with legacy leases maturing on Feb 1. 2025 or after. Eligible lessees from both brands will be able to purchase additional miles up to 30 days prior to lease end.

The automakers say the expansion reflects a continued shift in driving patterns, with 10,000-mile leases now surpassing 12,000-mile options as the most popular choice with both Nissan and INFINITI lease customers. The demand for ultra-low 5,000-mile leases is also increasing, doubling over the past two years.

"SignatureFLEX is an innovative lease program that puts customers first by offering them the flexibility to manage mileage needs while avoiding lease-end overage penalties," said Jim DeTrude, vice president, NMAC Sales & Marketing. "By including legacy leases in the program, we're enabling a more customized lease experience to better fit their lifestyles while reducing unexpected costs."

The SignatureFLEX program launched for select vehicles in October 2022, and expanded to all vehicles in early 2023.    Since the program's inception, the automakers report that customers across both brands have purchased over 30 million additional miles through the program,  collectively saving $4.5 million in overage fees. The brands say the new access for legacy leases builds on this success by offering significant savings—additional miles are priced at $0.10 per mile compared to lease-end overage penalties of up to $0.25 per mile.

Eligible customers can purchase additional mileage through the NMAC and IFS web portals or mobile apps. Nissan says it's also axed daily mileage purchase amounts.  Now customers have the flexibility to purchase as many miles as they need in one transaction, whenever they need to. Also, starting in 2025, vehicles equipped with compatible connected car technology will also enable in-vehicle mileage purchases. Drivers will also be able to get automatic, personalized notifications about their current and projected lease mileage.

SignatureFLEX is available across all Nissan and INFINITI lease terms and mileage limits, including the ultra-low-mileage, 5,000-mile/36-month lease option.
