John Kraman Collection
In total, more than 40 private collections were offered in Indianapolis, including the estate collection of Mecum’s own John Kraman. Kraman, a legend in the automotive world and the voice of Mecum during auction broadcasts, passed away suddenly earlier this year. Mecum says with an emotional reception from a crowd full of Kraman’s friends, fans and followers, the collection sold in its entirety, led by the $101,750 sale of his low-mile and long-owned 1964 Pontiac GTO Hardtop and the $93,500 sale of the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe that he bought new. Top-performing collections in Indy included The Bobby Knudsen Collection, which was led by a selection of eight Pontiac Catalinas, including two of the ultra-rare 1963 “Swiss Cheese” racing editions. One of the pair, a car campaigned by Jim Wangers, became a top-10 seller with a $742,500 sale price, and the other achieved a strong $473,000. In addition to the aforementioned Ferrari 812, The Apex Collection saw some additional excellent individual sales, with several other cars from the offering earning spots among the auction’s top-sellers list. Among them were a 1965 Shelby Cobra CSX4000 Series Roadster that brought $990,000, a 2022 Ford GT that sold for $770,000 and a 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback in a rare color combo that sold for $627,000.
