The all-new 2023 Honda Pilot is arriving in dealerships this week and the lineup includes Honda's most off-road capable SUV ever, the new Pilot TrailSport.  The rugged grade level was first introduced on the Passport, which we've reviewed,  before making its way to Honda's largest SUV.

Honda calls its TrailSport grade the brand's new "halo" trim for its light trucks. In the video below, Honda engineers share a closer look at the development of the Pilot TrailSport model, highlighting its rugged capability and exclusive off-road hardware.

Its exclusive rugged hardware includes an off-road tuned suspension with an additional inch of ground clearance, robust steel skid plates to better protect the underbody from damage on the trail, and expanded all-wheel drive capabilities.  (The new Pilot introduces the second generation of Honda's i-VTM4™ all-wheel drive system, which is available on all grades and standard on TrailSport.)

Honda says the Pilot TrailSport is also the first Honda SUV with all-terrain tires for improved off-road traction.  Unique 18-inch wheels are also carefully designed to reduce the likelihood of trail damage. Other features include a new TrailWatch camera system that shows four camera views to help drivers navigate off-road obstacles.

TrailSport also comes in a newly available and exclusive Diffused Sky Blue paint hue.  Inside, you find exclusive orange contrast stitching, all-season floor mats with TrailSport logos, and embroidered TrailSport logos on the head restraints. A sliding panoramic sunroof is also standard.

Availability and Pricing

The new 2023 Pilot went on sale Monday, December 12th, starting from $40,445 including destination. The AWD TrailSport model slots just below the top-range Elite trim and MSRP's for $49,645.

The new fourth-generation Pilot and Pilot TrailSport are being built exclusively at the Honda Alabama Auto Plant in Lincoln, Alabama.
