LEGO is teaming up with Ford Motor Co. to release a detailed replica of one of the most important vehicles in automotive history — the Ford Model T — and, fittingly, it can be purchased in any color the buyer wants, as long as it’s black.

The Danish toy company’s new 1,060-piece Lego Icons Ford Model T set officially went on sale March 1. The finished model measures about 7.5 inches tall and 11 inches long and carries a retail price of $130. (The LEGO website says it ships by March 26, 2026).

While that price may sound steep for a box of plastic bricks, it’s actually about half of what Ford was charging for a real Model T at its lowest price point in 1925. At that time the iconic car sold for $260, which would be roughly equivalent to nearly $5,000 in today’s dollars when adjusted for inflation.

LEGO worked closely with Ford Motor Co. during the development process to make sure the miniature vehicle stayed true to Henry Ford’s original design. According to Ford, the company’s heritage team reviewed renderings and illustrations of the model as Lego engineers refined the kit.

On Ford's news site, Ted Ryan, Ford’s archivist and heritage brand manager, said the collaboration focused on small but historically important details that help the LEGO version capture the look of the early automobile.

Among the features included in the finished set are a fold-back fabric roof, a fold-down split windshield and a single opening passenger door, all details drawn from the original Model T design.

The model also includes working mechanical touches that Lego enthusiasts tend to appreciate. The steering wheel turns the front white rubber tires, and a small crank located beneath the grille spins a fan on the engine.

Additional details are revealed when certain sections of the model are opened. Lifting the hood exposes parts of the engine, while the driver’s seat and rear trunk can also be raised to show additional interior and storage details recreated from the original vehicle.

Ryan said Ford’s heritage team began reviewing LEGO's early designs last spring. As the project progressed, Ford suggested several subtle changes to improve historical accuracy, including adjustments to the angle of the fenders and using a single lantern at the rear of the vehicle instead of multiple lamps.

Ryan, who described himself as a longtime fan of Lego kits, said he was impressed with the attention to detail the Lego Icons team devoted to the project.

“My biggest takeaway through this whole process was to see the lengths that the Lego Icons team went to ensure the historical accuracy of the kit,” Ryan wrote in an article published on Ford’s website.

Ryan added that the same level of care likely applies across Lego’s lineup of collector-focused sets.

“If they are doing it for the Ford Model T, I can guarantee you that the same level of care and dedication is given to every set,” he wrote.

The Model T remains one of the most influential vehicles ever produced. Introduced by Ford in 1908, the car revolutionized personal transportation by bringing automobile ownership within reach of middle-class Americans through mass production and assembly-line manufacturing.

By the time production ended in 1927, Ford had built more than 15 million Model Ts, making it the world’s best-selling automobile for decades and helping transform the auto industry.

Now, more than a century later, the vehicle that helped put America on wheels is getting a new life on living room shelves and collector displays — one Lego brick at a time.
