Genesis SUVs keep racking up the top safety awards from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). The Electrified GV70, which we've recently reviewed, is the brand's latest SUV to earn a Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS. It joins the rest of the Genesis SUV lineup in receiving top honors.
“At Genesis, our vehicles are engineered with customer safety top of mind,” said Claudia Marquez, chief operating officer of Genesis Motor North America. “We are pleased that the Electrified GV70 joins the rest of our SUV lineup in being recognized for exceptional safety performance by IIHS.”
To qualify for IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ in 2023, a vehicle must earn:
- Good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, updated side and original moderate overlap front tests
- Acceptable or good headlights standard across all trims
- Advanced or superior ratings of a front crash prevention system in both daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations must be available
The Electrified GV70 earned advanced ratings in both the daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash evaluations. The model’s headlights were good-rated across all trims.
Genesis credits its advanced safety systems in resulting in the Top Safety Pick+ award. The automaker says all of its models are equipped with a comprehensive suite of exceptional active and passive safety technologies including forward Collision Avoidance-Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Warning and more. The automaker says each vehicle in the Genesis line-up offers standard advanced safety features that help avoid crashes and provide advanced occupant protection when crashes do occur.
“This recognition by IIHS demonstrates our high standards of safety across our award-winning SUV lineup,” said Brian Latouf, Genesis global chief safety officer. “We are pleased that Genesis models continue to perform well for our customers and in IIHS tests.”
Some of the Electrified GV70s's safety and driver assistance technologies include:
- Eight standard airbags, including front center airbag between the driver and center console, minimizing collision damage between driver and passengers.
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist which can help mitigate the risks of collisions with detected vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists in certain conditions.
- Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, helping reduce the chance of potential impact with a vehicle that is detected in the blind spot.
- Genesis says its innovative platform – with strong focus on safety – includes passenger compartment protection and reinforcement areas using advanced high strength steel for rigidity and safety.
Genesis models also come with Genesis Connect Services and Connected Care that provides safety features like Automatic Collision Notification, Enhanced Roadside Assistance, and SOS Emergency Assistance when the vehicle has access to a cellular network connection.
