Ford Mustang Celebrates 60th Birthday

Happy 60th Anniversary Ford Mustang! The iconic pony car official marks its 60th birthday on April 17th.   The Mustang's 60th comes on the heels of a great sales year.  Ford says it was America's best-selling sports car in 2023 based on U.S. registrations, something Ford credits to the introduction of the new 7th-generation model that rolled out in North America last year.  The Mustang has also the best-selling sports car globally for over a decade. 

Ford is doing a number of things to celebrate the Mustang's milestone. They include the recent debut of a special Vermillion Red and Ebony Black logo, inspired by the badging and wheel center caps on the Mustang that debuted at the 1964 World’s Fair, at the New York Auto Show.

Ford is also hosting an owner and fan event on April 17th at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.  Attendees will get a first look at the limited-edition Mustang 60th Anniversary package. Plus Ford says they'll get to try new, exclusive Mustang ownership experiences rolling out over the next year. The day will also include track and drift ride-alongs where fans will not only get a first-hand taste of Mustang performance but also some of the skills they can learn through Mustang' new ownership experience. They'll also meet Ford Performance racing drivers, get up close and personal with monster Mustangs, including the Mustang Mach-E 1400, and see the entire array of racing Mustangs in one place.  

Owners can also learn about Mustang in the aftermarket through the Pony Personalization Corner, which will include exhibits from RTR and others.

Ford also says seventh-generation Mustang owners can celebrate the 60th anniversary with an exclusive new feature coming to their cars around April 17. The automaker says owners will need to turn on ‘Automatic Software Updates’ in the ‘Settings’ menu through their vehicle’s SYNC 4 touchscreen to receive this special feature.
