Automakers have long recognized the service of U.S. military personnel and the work of first responders with special incentives when buying or leasing a new vehicle. These programs vary widely by manufacturer, but most take the form of bonus cash rebates, special pricing, or dedicated purchase programs that can often be combined with other factory incentives or dealer discounts. Given we have so many of our military in battle right now, I wanted to look at which automakers were actively trying to help our heroes in blue and those half a world away.
In many cases, eligibility extends beyond active-duty service members to include reservists, National Guard members, retirees, veterans and even household family members. Some automakers also extend similar offers to police officers, firefighters, EMTs and paramedics.
While the exact terms and amounts change often, here is a look at the automakers currently known to offer military or first-responder incentives in the United States.
Detroit Automakers
The Detroit Three all operate national programs that provide discounts to military personnel and, in many cases, first responders as well.
Ford Motor Company and its luxury division Lincoln offer what the company calls its Military and First Responder Recognition Program. Eligible buyers receive a cash bonus that can be applied toward the purchase or lease of many new Ford or Lincoln vehicles. The amount varies depending on the model but has typically been around $500 to $1,000. Eligibility is verified through an online service and buyers receive a certificate to present at the dealership.
General Motors operates one of the largest military appreciation programs in the industry. The company offers bonus cash incentives across its four U.S. brands — Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac — with discounts typically around $500 on most models. The offer applies to active-duty personnel, veterans, reservists and retirees and can often be combined with other factory rebates. General Motors also offers discounts to First Responders.
Stellantis brands also participate in a military incentive program. Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram generally provide about $500 in bonus cash toward the purchase or lease of eligible vehicles for active-duty military members, reservists, retirees and recently discharged veterans. For example, Chrysler and Dodge both advertise a $500 military bonus cash allowance on select models.

Asian Automakers
Several Japanese and Korean manufacturers also run dedicated military appreciation programs.
Toyota offers a $500 military rebate toward the purchase or lease of a new Toyota vehicle through Toyota Financial Services. The program is open to active-duty personnel, reservists, retirees and veterans within two years of discharge, as well as household family members.
Nissan provides a similar incentive through its Nissan Military Program, offering $500 in bonus cash that can be combined with other incentives or regional rebates.
Subaru also offers a $500 military discount on the purchase or lease of a new vehicle for active-duty service members, reservists, retirees and veterans within a limited period after separation.
Mazda and Mitsubishi both run military appreciation programs as well. Mazda typically offers about $500 toward most new vehicles, while Mitsubishi has offered rebates around $500 to $750 depending on the model and promotional period.
Hyundai provides a $500 bonus through its Military Program and a $500 bonus through its First Responders Program, which applies to many new Hyundai vehicles and is available to police officers, firefighters and medical personnel.
Kia has periodically offered similar military appreciation rebates, though the program has historically appeared at certain times of the year rather than as a permanent offer.
Luxury Brands
Several luxury automakers also run military incentive programs, and in some cases the rebates are larger than those offered by mainstream brands.
BMW offers one of the most substantial programs, with incentives ranging from about $500 to as much as $5,000 depending on the model. The program applies to active-duty military members, veterans, military families and first responders.
Acura provides a military appreciation rebate typically around $750 when financing or leasing through Acura Financial Services.
Lexus offers a military reward that has often been around $1,000 on new vehicles when purchased or leased through Lexus Financial Services.
Infiniti also offers military discounts on select models, typically around $500 depending on the program year.
European Brands
Volkswagen offers a military and first responder bonus that typically provides about $500 toward the purchase or lease of eligible vehicles.
Volvo also runs a military rebate program that generally ranges from about $500 to $1,000 depending on the model and financing program. The automaker also has a First Responder program.
Audi has also offered military incentives in recent years, including rebates of around $1,000 on certain models when financing or leasing through the company’s financial services division.
A Common Way Automakers Say “Thank You”
While the details vary from brand to brand, these incentives usually fall within the $500 to $1,000 range, though some luxury brands offer larger discounts on select vehicles. Most programs also allow the military incentive to be combined with other manufacturer rebates or financing specials, which can increase the overall savings for eligible buyers.
Industry sources note that more than a dozen automakers now offer some form of military incentive program in the U.S., though the offers can change throughout the year and may require financing through the manufacturer’s captive finance arm.
For military personnel and first responders who qualify, asking about these programs before purchasing a vehicle can often result in a meaningful discount — and it’s one of the ways automakers try to recognize the people who serve their communities and the country.
