The 2025 World Car Awards (WCA) are in! And we have to say it's a bit disappointing to have to report that the outright World Car of the Year winner, the Kia EV3, isn't available in the U.S. yet.  Two other category winners aren't available here at all.  The annual awards, voted on by a panel of 96 international automotive journalists, highlight advancements in design, performance, and sustainability.  Winners are named in six categories:

2025 World Car Awards Winners

World Car of the Year: Kia EV3

WCA says the the new all-electric Kia's EV3 clinched the top honor for its blend of bold design, advanced technology, and impressive performance. It has segment-leading range of up to 605 km and rapid charging capabilities (10–80% in 31 minutes). *

“It is an immense honor for everyone at Kia that the EV3 has been awarded the 2025 World Car of Year title. This award highlights Kia’s global leadership in providing design-led, technologically advanced, sustainable mobility solutions and how the EV3’s class-leading attributes redefine the user experience for customers worldwide,” said Ho Sung Song, President and CEO at Kia.

There is no official U.S. on-sale date, but the EV3 is expected to be headed to the U.S. later this year or next.

World Electric Vehicle: Hyundai Inster / Casper Electric

Hyundai's Inster (also known as Casper Electric) isn't available here in the U.S.  WCA says it stood out in the EV category, for its compact design and eco-friendly features along with its accessible and efficient urban driving experience.

World Luxury Car: Volvo EX90

The Volvo EX90, a fully electric seven-seater SUV, earned WCA judge accolades for its combination of luxury, safety, and sustainability.  WCA says its spacious interior, cutting-edge technology, and commitment to environmental responsibility set new standards in the luxury segment.

“We’re pleased to see the EX90 get the recognition it truly deserves,” says Håkan Samuelsson, chief executive officer of Volvo Cars. “It was up against some tough competition, but this award proves that the EX90 appeals to some of the most demanding customers across the world.”

World Performance Car: Porsche 911 Carrera GTS

The Porsche's 911 Carrera GTS took the World Performance category by impressing judges with its dynamic performance and iconic design. WCA says the model continues Porsche's legacy of delivering exhilarating driving experiences, blending power with precision engineering.

World Urban Car: BYD Seagull / Dolphin Mini

BYD's Seagull (also known as Dolphin Mini) is another one that's not available in the U.S.  WCA says it captured attention for its affordability and practicality in urban settings.

World Car Design of the Year: Volkswagen ID. Buzz

Car Pro Show host Jerry Reynolds recently reviewed the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, which won World Car Design.  WCA says it won praise for its innovative design that marries nostalgia with futuristic elements. Its unique aesthetic and electric powertrain make it a standout in automotive design.

“We set out to create an electric vehicle that not only pays homage to the iconic Microbus but also propels us into the future of automotive design,” said Kjell Gruner, President and CEO, Volkswagen Group of America. “The ID. Buzz was always intended to be more than just transportation; it's our brand's electric soul, a halo that radiates fresh energy and excitement. The ID. Buzz is reconnecting us with our roots while boldly stepping into the electric era, and this award is recognition of that vision.”
