jerry-review-cars-june-6June 6, 2025

Dear CarPro Family,

Welcome to June!  We are now into month #6 of 2025.  The time just flies by, eh?  We have a full edition for you today, full of useful info, starting with May national sales from the automakers that report monthly.

Also below, the best & worst colors for resale, the best new & used family vehicles, and Stellantis chose a new CEO to straighten out the mess started by the last CEO.  I have a lot more, plus the latest on the tariffs, my Quick Shifts stories for this week (thank you for all the positive comments) and we’ve got the top sellers at the very successful 2025 Mecum Indy auction recently.

In car reviews, I got really enamored with a new Hyundai SUV, the 2026 Ioniq 9 Calligraphy.  Yes, I gushed over it, which doesn’t happen often enough these days.  I also had an enjoyable time with the 615 horse Chevy Blazer SS, a super-fast electric SUV.  Our Amy Plemons brings you a review of the 2025 Audi A3 and it has some great updates. In advice,  In advice, I answer the question:  Can you get a better price if you pay cash for a car?  The answer may surprise you.  Kim Komando has some really useful tips for you this week in her column.

Plus, lots of other information you will likely enjoy, including my video of the week which is always one of the most clicked on items in the newsletter.  If you haven’t perused my FAQ page, please do.  There are likely multiple articles you can use, every one of them written by me.

Check the recall section to see if you may need to take action on your vehicle.  Miss a radio show?  Below we tell you how to get the podcast, and if you missed a newsletter, we tell you how to find the archive page where you can see the last 10 editions.  The incentives have gone up lately, but our Incentive Guide is always 100% up to date.

We very much appreciate you being part of the newsletter family.  Without you, there is no Car Pro Show.  Let us know how we can help you, and if you haven’t been to our website lately, check it out at CarPro.com. It changes daily.

Have a terrific week.  See you on the radio!

   Tariff Talk: A Mercedes-Benz Proposal

mercedes-benz-germany-plant-cla-3-credit-mercedes

This week, Mercedes-Benz announced that production of the next-generation CLA is now  underway at its plant in Rastatt, Germany. Credit: Mercedes-Benz.

The big headline this week when it comes to tariff news is courtesy of Mercedes-Benz.  The automaker is floating what I think is a rather intriguing proposal that could ease escalating trade tensions between the U.S. and the European Union. It's an idea I think could gain steam. Here's what the automaker is proposing:

Kim Komando's Useful Tips of the Week

new-kim-kommando-graphiBesides the Car Pro Show and our weekly newsletter, my other favorite radio show and newsletter is Kim Komando’s.  We're on many of the same radio stations across America.  She does for her listeners and newsletter subscribers exactly what I endeavor to do:  Give you useful information to keep you up to date on the latest in cars, only she does it with technology and there is nobody who does it better.  Not sure how she puts out a top-notch newsletter seven days a week, but she does.

Here are some interesting things I found this week in Kim’s Newsletter:

  • You can request service records, replacement medals, even discharge papers (the famous DD-214) from the National Archives. It’s free. You just need the person’s name, service branch and birth/death dates if you have them.
  • Texas going hardcore parental: Texas wants to ban all minors under 18 from using social media. That means no Instagram, no TikTok, not even Facebook (RIP). Kids would need an ID to make accounts, and platforms would have to delete profiles if parents ask. Lawsuits incoming from tech giants and probably teenagers themselves.
  • Power banks on blast: Starting May 28, Southwest Airlines wants your power bank out and visible while charging. Lithium batteries are tiny arsonists with 19 in-flight incidents already this year. Portable chargers are the second most flammable vibe onboard after e-cigs. Reminder: “Unattended fire” is not a boarding group. Pro tip: Buy a reputable portable charger like this one (21% off)!
  • Watt is love? Baby don’t Hertz me: Tesla’s wheeling out its long-hyped robotaxis in Austin, starting with 10 cars and ramping to a thousand, basically a product experiment with bumpers. Musk says they’ll “geofence” the cars into safer areas. Everyone’s watching, especially Waymo.
  • Paw-prepared: Pet parents, the free Pet First Aid app (iOSAndroid) from the American Red Cross could be a lifesaver. Get step-by-step instructions, how-to videos and images to guide you through over 25 common pet emergencies. There are even quizzes to test your know-how.
  • About $33 million:  How much Mark Cuban invested during his time on Shark Tank. Surprise, surprise, the billionaire says those deals are now worth at least $250 million. As for why he left the show? He wants to spend more time with his kids. Solid exit strategy.

Jerry's Must-See Video Of The Week!

I don’t even know what to say.  An obviously crazy woman in a van on the 405 in Los Angeles, runs from police and the whole thing is captured on video.  LAPD needs to take some lessons on the pit maneuver, but again, this woman is nuts and just would not give it up.  She charged the police, drove the wrong way on the freeway, and slammed into a bunch of stopped cars.  This was an expensive pursuit for the city, I can’t count how many cruisers were damaged.
