February 7, 2025

Dear CarPro Family,

I hope you have had a great week as we welcome February, one month closer to spring, right?  Please take your time looking through the available content today, it is jam-packed full of information you can likely use.

Screen Shot 2025-02-06 at 5.55.17 PMWe kick off with the sales report for January 2025 from the car companies that report monthly.  Then we look at the changes to the auto industry under President Donald Trump.  In one article, there are big changes coming to fuel economy standards.  Then I have a commentary piece I wrote that concurs with insights from Cox Automotive on other big changes to the auto industry we might see.  In other pressing matters, I told you about the CARS Rules, which was initiated by the Federal Trade Commission to stem deceptive practices by car dealers.  It has been challenged and it has been struck down by the courts, at least for now.

DFW friends, the North Texas Auto Expo is here in a few weeks, and we started giving away 4 pairs of tickets last week and we’ll give away 4 more pairs tomorrow.  This is the only auto show we’ll have in the DFW area this year except for the State Fair, there will not be one in Fort Worth, so don’t miss this show.  We’ll be broadcasting live there on February 22, 2025 from 9 AM to 2 PM.  Below you will find more info, the automakers that will be there, ticket prices, and show times.

Screen Shot 2025-02-06 at 5.57.18 PMIn other news, I have the Barrett-Jackson top-10 sellers in Scottsdale recently, the most and least expensive cars in America to drive, and probably my favorite list of the year:  U.S. News & World Reports Best Cars For The Money.  Remember when I told you about the Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram dealers being at odds with Stellantis?  That was just a few months ago, and it seems as if things have gotten much calmer after the CEO “retired.”

Don’t miss a Kim Komando Special Report that could really assist you when it comes to auto insurance and why the rates are so expensive.  In advice today, I offer up some thoughts on factory incentives and rebates.  This is timely since there are SO many of them out there due to the oversupply of vehicles on the market.

Screen Shot 2025-02-06 at 5.37.57 PMIn car reviews, I had an all-electric for the 3rd week in a row!  I had the 2025 Subaru Solterra SUVHow did it stack up?  As an SUV, it’s wonderful.  As an EV, they have some work to do. Our Amy Plemons gives you a full and complete review of the 2025 Volkswagen Jetta small sedan.

Check the recall section to see if you may need to take action on your vehicle. Miss a radio show?  Below we tell you how to get the podcast, and if you missed a newsletter, we tell you how to find the archive page where you can see the last 10 editions.  The incentives have gone up lately, but our Incentive Guide is always 100% up to date.

Plus, lots of other information you will enjoy, including my video of the week we talk about on the air all the time!  If you have never been to our FAQ page, take a minute and peruse the categories, something there will interest you for sure → FAQ.

in this edition feb 7

We so appreciate all of you who take this newsletter and listen to the show every week.  We know that without you, there is no Car Pro Radio Show.  So always let us know when we can help you. If you have not been there lately, take a look at our website, carpro.com, it changes all the time!

Have a terrific week.  See you on the radio!

    The Car Pro Commentary

Screen Shot 2025-02-06 at 6.15.33 PM

During the years I worked at or owned car dealerships, there were six different U.S. Presidents.  Three of them I voted for, three I did not.  So, what did I do differently based on the election outcome?  NOT ONE THING.  My late father told me when I was young to “only worry about the things you can change.”  I didn’t let the occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue change my business model as a car dealer or since as the owner of a media company, a radio station owner, or a talk show host.  As with most, I just roll with it.

CarPro Advice:
Understanding Factory Rebates and Incentives

Factory rebates and incentives can be confusing since they change so often. But if you are going to be car shopping for a new vehicle, you need to understand how they work. In the current environment, with most dealers being overstocked, the incentives are plentiful and in many cases, very big!

 Kim Komando Special Report

new-kim-kommando-graphiBesides the Car Pro Show and our weekly newsletter, my other favorite radio show and newsletter is Kim Komando’s.  We're on many of the same radio stations across America.  She does for her listeners and newsletter subscribers exactly what I endeavor to do:  Give you useful information to keep you up to date on the latest in cars, only she does it with technology and there is nobody who does it better.  Not sure how she puts out a top-notch newsletter seven days a week, but she does.

Special Report:
Auto Insurance Rates, Blame It On Tech

In this special report, Kim starts by saying:

My car insurance just went up 32%. Did I have an accident or get a few tickets? Nope. Across the U.S., the average full-coverage car insurance bill went up 25% last year. In some states, it was closer to 40%. Geez.

The main reason? Today’s high-tech vehicles cost way more to repair. You don’t need to own a high-tech car to feel the pinch, though; it’s hitting everyone.

Driving up costs

Modern cars are packed with dozens of sensors and endless lines of computer code. Combine that with the rising cost of replacement parts and repairs, and voila — soaring auto insurance rates.

No wonder the average collision insurance claim jumped 64% between 2018 and 2022. In 2023, auto insurance rates climbed 20%, the biggest increase since 1976.

The rate increases are slowing a bit, but there’s no telling how tariffs could impact that. About 60% of car parts used in repairs are imported from China.

  Jerry's Video Of The Week

The obvious question is WHY?  Why do people, even 18-wheeler drivers, not stop, look, and listen at train tracks?  Or worse, try to beat a train?  Pop some popcorn and sit back and watch five minutes of train/vehicle collisions, almost all of which were preventable.
