2024 Toyota GR Supra 45th Anniversary Edition Review

Written by Amy Plemons | Mar 25, 2024 2:15:37 AM

Meet the absolutely jaw-dropping 2024 Toyota GR Supra 45th Anniversary Edition!  Only 900 of them are available in the U.S. and I'm feeling like a pretty lucky gal to be behind the wheel of one, even if just for a week. The special edition is based on the 3.0 Premium grade.

Exterior

It cannot be argued. This thing is a stunner! Its race-car inspired deep orange Mikan Blast hue - a tribute to the 1990s models - does it way more than justice set against 19-inch matte-black finished aluminum wheels wrapped in Michelin Super Sport summer tires with Brembo brakes and black GR brake calipers.

The 45th Anniversary edition also sports a really cool black side rocker panel Supra graphic that looks awesome. A heritage-inspired manually adjustable rear spoiler rises roughly three inches above the rear decklid.  Of the 900 limited-editions, half will be Mikan Blast, the other half in Absolute Zero white.

As for other exterior features, they include LED headlights, daytime running lights and tail lights along with heated exterior mirrors.

Performance

The Supra is all about performance! The 45th Anniversary Edition is equipped with the range-topping 3.0-liter turbo inline 6 that delivers 382-horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque. Power feels great.

It's mated to a 6-speed manual but you can opt for an automatic which shaves three seconds off Toyota's cited 0-60 times. The manual gearbox makes it in 4.2 seconds as opposed to 3.9.  Exclusive 45th Anniversary Edition Mikan Blast strut tower braces flank the engine.

Interior

The Supra's driver-centered cabin seamlessly blends sporty with refined thanks to leather-trimmed seats and carbon fiber trim. The power adjustable sport seats are design perfection and they're even heated. Sport pedals greet your feet. A black leather-trimmed steering wheel features paddle shifters on automatic transmission models.   Above it you get a sporty 8.8-inch digital tachometer.

A 8.8-inch touchscreen runs the Supra Command multimedia system with sport displays, navigation and voice recognition.  It's compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The screen also hosts a backup camera.  The Premium grade is equipped with a 12-speaker JBL HiFi Surround Sound system.

The center console is where you find the leather-wrapped manual gear shift knob, the Supra Command control and other features like an electronic parking brake. Two cup holders are embedded in the top of the center console bin.

There's a great logo'd cargo mat in the trunk.  It goes without saying there's not a ton of space for bulk items but it fit my needs perfectly.

Other grade features include wireless charging,  dual-zone climate, a locked glove box, and a USB port along with a 12-volt.

Ride and Drive

The low-slung Supra hugs the ground with a low center of gravity that feels incredible.   Acceleration is amazing and the wheels grip the road while the sport seats hold you in place. Sport-tuned handling delivers an unforgettably fun ride.  The sound of the exhaust in sport mode elevates the ride further.

Safety

All Supra grades come equipped with a a number of safety features including Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning with Steering Assist, Automatic High Beams and a Child Restraint System on the passenger seat. Only Automatic transmission equipped models are equipped with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.  Manual transmission models come with traditional Cruise Control.  This model is equipped with a color head-up display.

What You'll Pay

Looking back, this is the priciest Supra I've reviewed since it returned to the road as a 2020 model.  MSRP on this 45th Anniversary Edition runs just north of $65,000 including destination. Buyers also receive a complimentary 1-year membership to the National Auto Sport association.

Verdict

The 2024 Supra 3.0 is an incredible, attainable sports car for the true driver enthusiast. It's on my wish list. Though I admit,  I'd probably go for the automatic for the three seconds faster acceleration.
