REVIEW: 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor XLT

Written by Jerry Reynolds | Jan 10, 2023 4:54:26 PM

This week we are looking at a new edition to the highly popular 2023 Ford Maverick compact pickup, the Tremor. This completes the Tremor package across the Ford truck lineup with the F-F-250, Ford F-150, Ranger, and now the Maverick Tremor.

My review truck is the XLT package with all-wheel drive.

Powertrain

Under the hood is the 250-horse 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine mated to an 8-speed automatic that puts out 250-horses.  This is the only engine available in the Maverick Tremor.

Exterior

The Tremor has unique head and taillights, special 17” wheels and tires, tow hooks on the front, and it also has a 1-inch lift from the factory for better off-road capability.  The suspension system is different on the Tremor.

My review truck has the optional exterior appearance package that gives you carbonized gray stripes on the hood and the bottom of the doors, the roof, and the door handles.

Interior

The interior is well done, and as with all Tremors, it has touches of bronze everywhere and Tremor embroidered on the seats.

The gauge cluster is configurable for driver info controlled from the steering wheel.

High on the dash is an 8” touchscreen that is simple but works well.  You operate all audio, Bluetooth, apps, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The center console houses a round gearshift knob and buttons for the drive modes, the traction control, and all-wheel drive settings.

If you are a fan of cubby holes, they are EVERYWHERE in this vehicle and the center console has a nifty place to put your phone where you can actually see it when driving.

Back seat room was better than expected in a small truck.  Back seat passengers get USB ports and a power outlet.

The back seat folds up and has storage underneath for valuables.

Utility

The pickup bed has plastic all around the edges so when you put cargo in, you won’t scratch the paint, and the tailgate even has a built-in bottle opener.

There is a small storage box with an underneath hidden compartment.

Standard Equipment

The XLT Tremor comes standard with power windows, a power driver seat, power locks, a keyless entry pad, rearview camera, pre-collision assist, blind spot monitoring, tilt wheel, and cruise control.

Ride and Drive

The Maverick drives great, was surprisingly quiet inside, and overall quite enjoyable to drive.  It is small but doesn’t feel small and would make a great truck for in-town driving and trips to the hardware store.

Acceleration is strong and determined, but a surprise was the towing capacity, which is only 2,000 pounds.

Fuel economy is 22 city and 29 highway.  Total MSRP is $33,905 loaded like you see it here.
