2026 Toyota GR Supra MkV Final Edition Review

Written by Amy Plemons | Jan 9, 2026 3:06:41 PM

I can hardly believe I'm about to type these next words: this is it for the current generation Supra. As in, the name of this week's test drive says it all: The 2026 Toyota GR Supra MkV FINAL EDITION.  For yes, production of the fifth-generation GR Supra ends this Spring. Why it seems like only yesterday (okay, so it was 2020) when the revered nameplate bedazzled us with its return after a 17-year hiatus as a gorgeous two door coupe co-developed with BMW. Six years later, Toyota's decided to not just end its current run - but also end its partnership with BMW on its halo sports car.  That's right, Toyota's going it alone on the next-gen model, developing it fully in-house with a new rear-wheel drive platform and new engine.  To bid the current generation goodbye, Toyota gives the Final Edition the attention it deserves with a host of performance updates and distinguishing features. It's exclusive, too, as in only 1300 will be produced, as denoted on an interior badge.

Exterior

I can only hope the redesigned Supra looks as amazing as the current one - because I've been all in since I first laid eyes on it.  While the current generation Supra shares a rear-wheel drive platform with the BMW Z4, Toyota's design team gets all the credit for it stunning design, so I'm not too worried there.

My Final Edition tester is awash in a familiar Renaissance Red 2.0 hue.  Its paired with new 19-inch Forged Matte Black Wheels wrapped by Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. GR-badged red brake calipers amp up the sporty vibe.

Distinguishing features of the Final Edition include gloss carbon fiber mirror caps, a matte Black Rear Supra Emblem, and a new gloss-finished ducktail carbon fiber rear spoiler designed to improve aerodynamics.  To that end, the Final Edition also benefits from front wheel arch flaps and higher front tire flats designed to improve handling and optimize front/rear aerodynamic balance and downforce.

Other Supra exterior features include aero underbody panels, LED headlights, daytime running lights and tail lights, auto-fold heated exterior mirrors and dual-branch exhaust manifold.

Performance

This will certainly be the last year for the GR Supra's current engine, for we can expect the new model to be a turbo hybrid.

I do love the current BMW-derived and Toyota's Gazoo Racing- tweaked turbo 3.0-liter inline-6 though - with its exhilarating and powerful 382-horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque. Available with either an 8-speed automatic or manual gearbox, here you have an engaging automatic. It delivers a Toyota-cited 3.9 second 0-60 time vs. the manual's 4.2. Launch control is there for track use. Hit the sport mode button for the roar of the active exhaust. Active rear sport differential is standard across the lineup.

The MkV special edition benefits from exciting performance-geared updates that include refined differential control and exclusive control maps for better traction, and larger Brembo brakes for improved braking. Other tweaks include chassis and suspension updates that enhance stability and aerodynamic performance along with revised shock absorbers and a stronger underbody brace.

Interior

The Final Edition's driver-centric cabin features Black Alcantara leather-trimmed sport seats with prominent GR-badging on the headrests. The seats are the defining part of the interior with their impeccable design and great-looking silver hardware in the seat backs.  Power-adjustable sport seats feature deep side bolsters that keep you snugly in place. Comfort features include three-level heated seats and a heated black leather-wrapped sport steering wheel.

Cabin tech gives away the BMW partnership as you don't find the typical displays in other Toyotas.  Instead, these are BMW products. A large RPM display is a prominent feature of the driver display - befitting the car's sporty aspirations.  An 8.8-inch touchscreen runs Supra Command with navigation, voice recognition and wireless Apple CarPlay. Sport displays show real-time power and torque numbers.  You control the system via a rotary touch controller. The Final Edition also has Supra Connect with real-time traffic, remote control lock and ventilation features, and the app for Android Auto..  Carbon fiber on the console looks fantastic where the gear shifter also signals BMW's influence.

Other Final Edition features include a GR Camo Cover, 12-speaker JBL sound system, color head-up display, wireless charging,  dual-zone climate, a locked glove box, and one USB port along with a 12-volt.

Cargo space isn't terribly spacious so you won't want to do any bulk shopping, but I found it handled a few groceries just fine.

Ride and Drive

The 5th-generation GR Supra has been just a total blast to drive ever since it hit the road. It's a ton of fun, with driving dynamics that aren't just fantastic on the track but also as a daily driver. Normal, Sport, and Individual modes adjust throttle and steering response settings. Sport handling is super sharp and acceleration is quick and powerful.  The sport seats really hold you in place and the GR Supra's low center of gravity just makes the whole experience make you feel one with the vehicle.  Ride quality is fantastic too thanks to adaptive variable sport suspension.

Safety

All Supra's come standard with Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning with Steering Assist,  Vehicle Stability Control, Brake Assist, Anti-lock Brake System, Automatic High Beams and a Child Restraint System on the passenger seat.

A $1,195 Driver Assist Package (not available on the manual) adds Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Blind Spot monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert,  and Parking Sensors with emergency braking.

What You'll Pay

Options include the Driver Assist Package ($1,195), carpet cargo mat ($110) and wheel locks ($90) and a GR Strut Tie Brace ($620).

The exclusivity of the Final Edition comes at a price. The 2026 Final Edition is roughly $10K pricer than the 2025 GR Supra 3.0 Premium I reviewed. The 2026 lineup is also available in Supra 3.0 and 3.0 Premium grades.

Buyers also receive a complimentary 1-year membership to the National Auto Sport association.

Verdict

The MkV Final Edition is a fantastic send-off for the current-generation Supra which has inarguably been a triumph for the brand.  Thank you fifth-generation GR Supra, you've been an amazing and unforgettable ride!
