2026 Ford F-150 Lobo 4X4 Review

Written by Jerry Reynolds | May 26, 2026 3:19:45 PM

As I have shared with you, car companies always send me the super-loaded models to review. I’d rather have the models people are most likely to purchase. I was very pleasantly surprised to get inside the 2026 Ford F-150 Lobo 4X4 this week when I had to insert a key into an ignition switch. I had to manually adjust the seat, there was no automatic climate control, no air conditioned seats, and I was sitting on a foreign material to me: something called cloth. My system was in shock because there was no gear shifter on the center console. Yikes, it was on the steering column! Good memories of a simpler time in cars.

Ford’s F-150 lineup has become so broad over the years that there’s truly something for everybody. Want a work truck? They’ve got it. Need a luxury pickup that rivals a high-end SUV? No problem. But for 2026, Ford reached back into its performance truck history and delivered something enthusiasts have been asking for: a factory-built street truck with attitude. My tester this week is the SuperCrew STX equipped with the new Lobo Package and the venerable 5.0-liter V8 engine. If you’re nostalgic for the days when pickups were loud, muscular, and built to make you grin every time you hit the gas pedal, this truck absolutely delivers. It also answers a niche for many: a hot-looking truck on the outside without all the bells and whistles inside you don’t want to pay for.

Exterior

The exterior styling of the Lobo package immediately sets it apart from a standard F-150. My tester wore Agate Black Metallic paint over a black STX cloth interior, and the combination gave the truck a sinister look that fit the package perfectly.

The Lobo package lowers the truck’s stance by 2” and adds 22-inch black aluminum wheels wrapped in 275/50R22 all-season tires. The grille treatment is darker, has fog lights all the way across, and the grille is more aggressive than a regular STX.

Ford added unique lower body styling, black exterior accents, and dual exhaust outlets that make this truck look every bit the part of a modern street truck. LED reflector headlamps, daytime running lamps, rear privacy glass, and LED fog lamps complete the appearance. Even parked, this truck looks fast.

Performance

Powering the Lobo is Ford’s legendary 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine paired to the company’s 10-speed automatic transmission. In a world where Ecoboost turbocharged engines dominate the Ford half-ton truck market, there’s something refreshing about hearing a naturally aspirated V8 come to life. The 5.0-liter produces 400 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque, and it delivers power in a smooth, linear way that feels perfectly matched to the personality of this truck. The 10-speed automatic transmission shifts cleanly and keeps the engine in its sweet spot whether accelerating from a stoplight or cruising on the highway. My tester was also equipped with a 3.73 electronic locking rear axle, giving it excellent traction, strong acceleration, and 8,200 pounds of towing capacity.

Interior

Inside, the STX trim is far more comfortable and well-equipped than entry-level trucks used to be. The black cloth 40/console/40 seating layout was comfortable, supportive, and practical.

The cabin has a clean layout that is functional without feeling stripped down. One thing Ford continues to do well is interior space, and the SuperCrew configuration provides plenty of room for front and rear seat passengers. With the shifter on the column, the center console is clean and simple.

Technology is strong for an STX trim. Front and center is Ford’s SYNC 4 infotainment system with a 12-inch touchscreen that is easy to operate and quick to respond. Through the 12-inch touchscreen drivers can control navigation functions, audio and SiriusXM features, Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, vehicle settings, connected FordPass features, camera views, drive mode selections, towing functions, climate controls, and various driver-assistance and convenience settings throughout the truck.

Rear seat passengers in the SuperCrew cab get a tremendous amount of space, which has long been one of the F-150’s strong suits. There’s excellent legroom and headroom, even for taller adults, and the flat floor design makes the center seating position much more comfortable than many competitors. The STX seating is supportive and durable, and rear passengers benefit from rear privacy glass, rear air vents, a couple of USB-Cs and the wide-opening doors make getting in and out extremely easy. Families, work crews, or road-trip travelers will appreciate how roomy and comfortable the rear seating area is, and there’s enough space for three adults to ride comfortably without feeling cramped. Fold the rear seats up, they lock in place, and you’ve got a huge storage area or a very comfy spot for Bruiser to lay and chew his bone.

Standard Equipment

Standard equipment on the STX trim is far more extensive than most buyers would expect. Exterior features include LED reflector headlamps with auto high-beam functionality, autolamp headlights, daytime running lamps, rear privacy glass, intermittent wipers, pickup box tie-down hooks, Easy Fuel capless fuel filler, power tailgate lock, and a fully boxed steel frame.

Inside, Ford includes cruise control, power door locks, dual sun visors, illuminated entry, outside temperature display, compass, trip computer, and a tilt-and-telescoping steering column. Functional equipment includes a 5G modem, AM/FM stereo system, FordPass app connectivity, auto hold, curve control, selectable drive modes, lane-keeping system, rear parking sensors, rearview camera, BLIS blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, Smart Trailer Tow Connector capability, Class IV trailer hitch, pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, post-collision braking, and SYNC 4 with a 12-inch touchscreen and enhanced voice recognition. Trailer sway control is also standard.

Safety

Safety features include AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, front-seat mounted side-impact airbags, Safety Canopy side-curtain airbags, SecuriLock passive anti-theft system, perimeter alarm, tire pressure monitoring system, SOS post-crash alert system, and a center high-mounted stop lamp.

Options

Options on my tester were straightforward and nicely selected. The Coyote V8 engine added $2,340. The F-150 Lobo Package added $4,695 and included the lowered street-truck appearance upgrades, 22-inch wheels, and performance-inspired styling enhancements. SiriusXM with 360L and a three-year plan added $745. A Tough Bed spray-in bedliner added $625. The truck also featured the extended-range 36-gallon fuel tank, the Console Package with flow-through console and vinyl lid, the 6800-pound GVWR package, and 50-state emissions equipment.

One last feature that is a must-have for me is the Mobile Office Package, which added $760 and has several features designed to make the F-150 more functional for people who use their truck as a workspace during the day. The package includes Ford’s interior work surface setup with the flow-through console and vinyl lid, creating a flat workspace large enough for a laptop, paperwork, or even lunch on the go. It also adds Pro Power Onboard with 400-watt power outlets in both the cab and the bed, allowing owners to plug in laptops, battery chargers, tools, and other electronics directly from the truck itself. Possibly, this is the best $760 you can spend in a truck.

Ride and Drive

On the road, the Lobo feels noticeably different than a traditional F-150. The lowered suspension gives the truck a more planted feel in corners and reduces the top-heavy sensation that full-size pickups sometimes have. Steering response feels sharper, body roll is reduced, and overall the truck feels tighter and more athletic than a standard four-wheel-drive F-150. The ride quality remains comfortable, but there’s a sportier edge to the way this truck behaves.

The real star of the show, though, is the V8, and I am a big advocate for the EcoBoost, especially for those who tow heavy loads. Still, the exhaust note alone makes this truck worth a look for buyers tired of turbocharged V6 engines. It sounds like a truck should sound. Acceleration is strong, throttle response is immediate, and there’s just a personality to this drivetrain that many modern pickups lack.

MSRP and MPG

Pricing starts with a base price of $51,070. After options and destination charges, my tester rang the bell at $61,835. Fuel economy is pretty standard at 16 in town, 24 on the highway, and 19 overall, but it seems to be doing slightly better, even with me making the exhaust sing on every takeoff.

Verdict

The 2026 Ford F-150 STX Lobo won’t be the right truck for everybody, and that’s exactly the point. Ford built this one for truck buyers who still want style, V8 power, and some personality behind the wheel. In an era where many pickups are becoming rolling appliances, the Lobo reminds you trucks can still be fun.
