This week we are taking a look at the very large 2025 Ram 2500 Rebel Crew Cab 4x4, a heavy-duty truck that can handle serious towing and hauling while surrounding you with genuine luxury. Properly equipped with the High-Output Cummins diesel, this truck will tow up to 20,000 pounds, and you can bet it does so with an ease.
Exterior
On the outside, the Rebel presents a top-notch look with an updated grille, refined LED headlights and taillights, and big 20” diamond-cut wheels.
Since the last one of these I reviewed, the mirrors now extend and retract at the push of a button and include cameras to give you a clear view down both sides when you’re hooked to a trailer. An auto-leveling rear air suspension helps settle the truck when carrying heavy loads, making it more civilized on the road. The Bright White Clear Coat exterior color looks terrific.
I particularly like the cowled hood with air vents and a functional hood scoop. The Cummins logo adorns the front fenders, there is black along the bottom of the truck and lots of black accents.
Performance
The Rebel designation signals an off-road–focused trim level. First introduced on the half-ton Ram 1500 and later expanded to the 2500 in 2023, the Rebel blends heavy-duty towing and hauling with factory-installed off-road equipment. That means features like a higher ride height, skid plates, Bilstein shocks, all-terrain tires on aggressive wheels, hill-descent control, and a unique grille and exterior styling to set it apart from more luxury-oriented trims like the Longhorn or Limited. In short, a Rebel is the go-to choice if you want a Ram that looks meaner and is ready to tackle rough trails straight from the dealership, without giving up the capability expected of a three-quarter-ton pickup.
Just a quick history lesson, the first Ram 1500 Rebel launched for the 2015 model year. That truck marked Ram’s first dedicated off-road trim for the half-ton lineup, positioned between the standard Ram 1500 and the heavy-duty Power Wagon.
Powering this truck is the legendary 6.7-liter Cummins High-Output turbo diesel, delivering 430-horses and a massive 1,075-pound feet of torque, paired with a heavy-duty 8-speed automatic transmission. The torque is nothing short of incredible, making light work of big trailers and steep grades. Acceleration is strong, cruising is effortless, and the big Cummins is super-quiet.
Interior
Inside, the Rebel is more luxurious than ever. You’ll find 100% leather seats with Rebel embossed into the seat backs. The seats are heated and ventilated, and rear passengers get more than generous space. The cabin is void of outside sounds thanks to active noise cancellation, and everywhere you look the craftsmanship is top-notch.
The driver gets a new digital gauge cluster that is crisp and configurable. Trailer-friendly features like a 360-degree camera system, trailer reverse steering, and an integrated brake controller make life easier for those who tow regularly. It will take you some time to get through all the pages of choices.
The 2025 Ram 2500 Rebel comes standard with full leather seating, real wood and metal interior trim, heated and ventilated front seats, power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory, dual-zone automatic climate control, a large digital gauge cluster, a 14.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen with navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 17-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, wireless charging, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a 360-degree camera system, power extendable trailer tow mirrors, trailer brake controller, LED exterior lighting, and power sliding rear window.
On the safety side, the 2025 Longhorn is loaded: lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning, and active lane management are all present. New this year is traffic sign recognition and a drowsy driver alert system, making the truck not only powerful but also smarter about keeping you safe.
My review truck for this week has a whopping $28,365 worth of options, with a lot of those bucks attributed to the $12,595 Cummins High-Output diesel under the hood. There is $1,595 for the Tow Technology Group (Surround-view camera, trailer tire air pressure monitoring, and trailer reverse guidance), $1,195 for the power moon roof, automatic leveling air suspension, which is a must in my opinion is $1,705.
It also has the $6,495 Level 2 Rebel equipment group which bundles a spray-in bedliner, a digital rearview mirror, lit vanity mirrors, leather interior, dual charging pads for cell phones, front passenger screen, air conditioned front seats, heated second row seats, power folding heated mirrors, memory front seats, and power adjustable pedals. The Tow Tech PLUS package is $1,490 and includes digital rearview mirror, and side cameras to see your trailer, auxiliary switches built-in, and the trailer backup steering system.
The Safety Group is $1,995 and completes the items for semi-self-driving. It includes active lane keep assist, active steering management, drowsy driver alert, and traffic sign recognition.
The Ram Box side toolboxes are $1,295 and are an integrated cargo management system built into the side rails of the truck bed that provides lockable, weather-sealed storage bins (with drainage plugs, lighting, and tie-downs) without sacrificing usable bed space.
Driving the 2025 Ram Rebel with the Cummins diesel is a commanding experience. The torque is always on tap when you push hard on the gas pedal. The suspension tuning and cabin refinement give it a smoother, quieter ride than you’d expect from something this capable and heavy-duty. Despite its size, advanced cameras and mirrors make maneuvering less intimidating and the Ram has a surprisingly tight turning radius.
Fuel economy is not rated on over 8,500 pound GVWR vehicles. This much power and capacity in a very loaded pickup comes with a hefty price tag for sure. MSRP as equipped is $99,105. You have to look at this as an investment of equipment and the good news is, this truck could make 500,000 miles or more with good maintenance practices.
In a nutshell, with its combination of muscle, comfort, and technology, the 2025 Ram 2500 Rebel with the High-Output Cummins diesel raises the bar for heavy-duty trucks. It has the brawn to do real work but pampers you with luxury touches and modern tech that make it just as at home on a long highway trip as it is pulling a heavy trailer down a back road.
