2024 Genesis GV80 Prestige Signature Review and Video

Written by Jerry Reynolds | Nov 14, 2023 6:45:13 PM

This week, we take a look at a beautiful luxury SUV, the 2024 Genesis GV80 Prestige Signature Edition. This has been a much sought-after SUV since it debuted in 2021.

Exterior

I love the exterior looks of this SUV. There is a huge mesh grill that is reminiscent of a Bentley.  There is a sculpted hood, and there are nice chrome accents along the side panels.  Dual exhaust pipes come out the back.

I have to comment on the paint.  Honestly, I think it’s the prettiest I’ve ever seen.  Officially it is Matterhorn White, but to me, it is matte white.  I am normally not a fan of matte paint, but this is beautiful.  It’s just a flat white with no metallic in it and it is stunning.

Powertrain

Under the hood, there is a 3.5-liter V6 with twin-turbos putting out a strong 375-horses and 375 pound-feet of torque.  It is mated to an 8-speed automatic that has shift paddles. For 2024, all GV80s are all-wheel drive.

Interior

Coolness abounds in the GV80 starting with the key fob.  You can hit the start button on the fob, then move the SUV forward and backward remotely without anyone being behind the wheel.  This would be super handy for backing out of your garage, or when someone parks too close to you.  It’s also fun to have people marvel at what it can do.

When you enter the cabin, you get a sense you are in a true luxury SUV, and you are.  Diamond pleated seats are beautiful, leather materials are everywhere, and heavy stitching is all around.

As you sit behind the beautiful heated, power tilt leather steering wheel, there is a vibrant driver display that is configurable.  When you hit the start button, you are greeted with terrific graphics from the dash.  You also see a vibrant head-up display that shows your speed and has traffic sign recognition.

On the gauge cluster, when you turn on your blinker to change lanes, you get a camera view from the left or right side of the dash to make sure it is safe to change lanes.  The head-up display also shows you if all is safe, and if you need more, the outside mirrors warn you and will beep at you.  A vehicle in your blind spot is not a problem in the GV80.

The center console is surrounded by real wood and houses a rotary shifter as well as drive modes featuring snow, eco, comfort, custom, and my favorite, Sport mode.  There is also an auto hold button which is a feature I truly love.

Also on the console is a beautiful round dial to operate the 14.5” touchscreen that sits high on the dash, but it is pretty far away. You can scroll through the apps from the dial if you don’t want to reach out to the screen.  Everything is easy to operate and simple.

There you will find Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, although not wireless, the nav system, stereo settings, and a couple of cool features I love:  You can choose Sounds of Nature to soothe you, and there is a quiet mode if the kids are in the back, a nice touch.  I also love that the GV80 tells you if the car in front of you is pulling away, in case you are not paying attention.  This could really cut down on road rage incidents.

Second row passengers will enjoy captain chairs, a power outlet, rear air vents, climate controls, a phone charger, a huge center console, and heated and cooled seats. There are power rear screens to give second-row passengers privacy or to block out the sun

My tester is a four-passenger version, but you can get a third-row seat in lower trim levels, but it appears to be fairly small. Without the third-row, there is a huge amount of cargo area and even more when you use the power buttons to fold down the second row seats.

Standard Equipment

This is a luxury SUV so it comes super loaded, with all the latest safety features, a panoramic moonroof, and everything you can imagine including massaging seats.

Ride and Drive

The ride and drive of this SUV is wonderful, it’s super quiet inside, and handling is good.

The GV80 will tow 6,000-pounds and the fuel economy, for a large luxury SUV, is good at 18 in town and 23 on the highway.

Verdict

My loaded test vehicle comes in at an MSRP of $82,695 that I consider to be a great buy especially considering the 10-year/100,000 mile warranty, 3-years of free maintenance, and the concierge service for pickup and delivery when you need service.
