Dear Car Pro Family,

Happy Friday friends!  It’s been an exciting week for your favorite Car Pro! On Monday, I learned that I have been elected to the Texas Radio Hall of Fame! It's my third time to be nominated and I am extremely happy to be a Class of 2025 Inductee and join a very esteemed group of radio professionals, many of them my mentors and people I admire.  There is simply no doubt it was the listeners of the Car Pro Show who put me over the top, and it was one of the most humbling experiences of my life, so thank you from the bottom of my heart.  I will go into more detail today in my closing message at the very bottom of today’s newsletter.

We start today with the news that GM & Hyundai are working together to build new vehicles.  For now, most will not be available in America, but that will certainly change if the new entries are successful!  We love our cars in Texas, so much in fact, that we lead the nation in monthly payments north of a thousand bucks!  Caution is advised on used cars:  45,000 of them were damaged by storms recently, many of those from the Texas flooding.  Speaking of, OnStar did a heck of a job helping people in the horrific floods in Central Texas last month.  Those stories await you below.

Kim Komando has a Special Report today about electric cars and hybrids that are spying on you and don’t miss Kim’s Quiz, the answer is at the very bottom of this newsletter, along with my closing message.  I have a new batch of Quick Shift stories for you today, and don’t forget to go shopping in the Car Pro Merch shop, lots of good stuff there.  Get caught up on the tariff news, too.

In car reviews, I have a very large and a fairly small SUV for you this week.  I have the ALL-NEW 2025 Ford Expedition Tremor, and the super fuel-efficient 2025 Kia Niro hybrid. In our third review, Amy Plemons is behind the wheel of the 2025 VW Golf GTI hot-hatch.

If you have never read my True Stories from a Former Car Dealer series, may I suggest you do so.  People have loved this for a lot of years now.  You’ll learn more about me than you probably want to know, you’ll roar with laughter at some, and you’ll likely get a tear in your eyes on others.  They are all right here, 40 of them, carefully written by yours truly: True Stories →

If you haven’t perused my FAQ page, please do.  There are likely multiple articles you can use, every one of them written by me.

All of our other regular features are below including the Classic Car Contest, our radio station listings, how to connect with us on Facebook and call the show to talk directly to me, and much, much, more.

We very much appreciate you being part of the newsletter family.  Without you, there is no Car Pro Show.  Let us know how we can help you, and if you haven’t been to our website lately, check it out at CarPro.com. It changes daily.

Have a terrific week.  See you on the radio!

Kim Komando's Quiz and Tech Tips

new-kim-kommando-graphiBesides the Car Pro Show and our weekly newsletter, my other favorite radio show and newsletter is Kim Komando’s.  We're on many of the same radio stations across America.  She does for her listeners and newsletter subscribers exactly what I endeavor to do:  Give you useful information to keep you up to date on the latest in cars, only she does it with technology and there is nobody who does it better.  Not sure how she puts out a top-notch newsletter seven days a week, but she does.

Kim’s Quiz:

Picture it: 1993. Grunge rules the airwaves. The internet still growls when you connect. Tony in IT has a mullet. Today, Tony is happily retired but still has whatever is left of a mullet. And tech companies think, “What if we made a phone … touch screen?”

Can you guess the first true smartphone? A) Nokia 9000, B) Apple Newton, C) Motorola StarTAC or D) IBM Simon.

ANSWER:  Below my closing message at the bottom.

  Closing Message From Jerry Reynolds

Words just don’t do justice to the gratitude I feel towards each of you who took the time and even spent your hard-earned money to vote for me to be inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.  Even more gratifying were the stories people shared with me from across America.  I heard from people I had never heard from before.  They were loyal listeners to the show or the podcast, and they were subscribers to this newsletter.  I truly had no idea how many people I had helped and didn’t know I had.

Asking this audience for help was against everything I felt was right.  Todd brought it up a few weeks ago on the air in DFW that people could join the membership and vote, and I shot him “a look”.  At break, he asked if he did something wrong.  I said, “not at all, but nobody is going to spend money to vote for me”.  Well, I was wrong.

The behind-the-scenes folks that you don’t hear on the air took the ball and ran with it. Hundreds of people voted and I think you overwhelmed the system.  Getting a membership number took days instead of hours, but when the smoke cleared, I was one of 20 broadcasters to be inducted out of several hundred nominated.

Why did all this matter?  Of course, everyone loves recognition, but to be honest, I looked at the list of those elected and many were my heroes, most notable my trusty sidekick for 23 years, Kevin McCarthy.  Kevin was an inductee the very first year of the Hall of Fame, and I went to the ceremony to see him inducted.  That was in 2002.

On-air personalities I have worked with at WBAP in Dallas, already in the Hall in the past 23 years that made an impression on me include Hal Jay, Brad Barton, Steve Lamb, Neil Sperry, Tyler Cox, and Mark Davis. I admired each of those professionals, and although I am only a “weekend host” they all treated me as a peer.  Some of my heroes that have been inducted, but are no longer with us, include Ron Chapman, Kidd Craddick, and my dear friend Terry Dorsey.  My talk radio coach for many years, Tommy Kramer, was inducted long ago, and he worked with me for years to be a better talk radio host.

I’ve been blessed in my lifetime to win a lot of awards over two careers.  In the car business, being Ward’s Dealer of the Year and USA Today’s Dealer of the Year were standout moments.  To be elected by my peers to become the Ford National Dealer Council Chairman was huge, but then being asked to stay on for a second term was even more gratifying, that was a first for the Council.  Winning Radio Show of the Year from the Texas Auto Writer’s Association five times has been wonderful.  But for a guy who started a second career late in life, being in the Texas Radio Hall of Fame is the pinnacle.  It is even more valuable to me because it was listeners who got me here, so again I say thank you to you for voting, for your emails and social media posts of encouragement, for your many stories of how I helped you or saved you money.  This is the reason I do what I do.

As I told you on the air, the outpouring of love and gratitude changed my way of thinking.  Suddenly last week, I didn’t care if I was inducted into the Hall of Fame or not, because I had won the biggest prize of them all: The support of hundreds, if not thousands, of people across our great land, most of which I had never met in real life but became true friends and part of a large family.

Special thanks, too, to Tom Haynes my Business Manager and Amy Plemons, our Executive Producer for promoting this whole thing and making my dream a reality.  Also, special thanks to Kevin McCarthy for mentoring me and giving me the confidence to chase this dream and have a second career that I never imagined becoming so big.  I wrote about how this whole story started in my Dealer True Stories, it is #38 and you’ll find those at our website under the radio tab at the top.

With Sincere Thanks,

Kim Komando Answer:

D) IBM Simon. Yep, I’m Basically Magic released the original smartphone before
“smartphone” was even a word. Unveiled in 1993, it made calls, sent faxes (remember
those?), held contacts, and even came with a stylus for its touch screen.

Fun fact: The IBM Simon only sold about 50,000 units, but it paved the way for the
device you’re reading this on right now. It was our phone’s chunky great-grandparent
that walked 20 miles to school and back in the snow.
