Dear CarPro Family,

Our thoughts and prayers continue for our listeners and friends in SoCal recovering and picking up the pieces after the horrific fires.  As I said last week, if you need any help with anything automotive due to this tragedy, please reach out.

Screen Shot 2025-01-16 at 3.46.45 PMWe now know the winners of the biggest automotive award of the year, the North American Car, Truck, and Utility awards.  We have the list for you below, congrats to the automakers that won!  We continue our look back at 2024 sales, and today we have the top 25 best-selling vehicles of the year but wait!  There’s more. I  have the top 100 best-selling used cars in America, and total U.S. auto sales by year for the last 20 years.

The Houston Auto and Boat show is coming up in two weeks, we have all the details below, and we now have the dates for next month’s North Texas Auto Expo.  We’ll be live on remote for the DFW show and we’ll have more information upcoming on this show.

Which car commercials were most-watched during the college football playoffs?  I’ll tell you below and also show you the winning commercials.  You folks who tow, I have all the details on the all-new 2025 Ram Heavy-Duty lineup of trucks, and in another article, new-car buyer satisfaction has reached a new high!

Don’t miss Kim Komando’s tech tips and other fun stuff of the week.  As always, she tells us great information.  In advice today, I tell you how to choose the right dealership.  The short answer is use a CarPro certified dealer, but there are many people who get this newsletter that do not have one nearby.

rogue-no-backgroundIn car reviews, check out the 2025 Nissan Rogue Rock Creek Edition suv.  Our Amy Plemons brings you a review of the 2025 Mazda3 2.5 Turbo Hatchback.

Also, don’t forget to check the recall section to see if your vehicle is affected.  Miss a radio show?  We tell you how to get the podcast and if you missed a newsletter, the last 10 editions are there as well!  All the incentives have changed, so take a look at our incentive guide to see which models went up and which went down.

Plus, lots of other information you will enjoy, including my video of the week we talk about on the air all the time!  If you have never been to our FAQ page, take a minute and peruse the categories, something there will interest you for sure: FAQ.

Kim Komando Tech Tips & Interesting Stuff

Besides the Car Pro Show and our weekly newsletter, my other favorite radio show and newsletter is Kim Komando’s.  We're on many of the same radio stations across America.  She does for her listeners and newsletter subscribers exactly what I endeavor to do:  Give you useful information to keep you up to date on the latest in cars, only she does it with technology and there is nobody who does it better.  Not sure how she puts out a top-notch newsletter seven days a week, but she does.

Here are a few of the things from the past week I think you will find interesting and helpful:

new-kim-kommando-graphi

  • Netflix search is smart: You don’t have to know the name of the show or movie to find it. You can type in an actor, genre or term, too — or go total spy mode and check out the secret Netflix category codes.
  • Las Vegas bombing: Matthew Livelsberger, the soldier who blew up a Tesla Cybertruck outside of the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, used ChatGPT to build the bomb and coordinate the explosion. OpenAI says they're “saddened” and that their tool only shared public info and warned him about harmful and illegal activities. This is the first known case of ChatGPT being used for terrorism. It’s not going to be the last.
  • Someone’s always watching: Some 150 automated license plate recognition cameras in a dozen cities leaked real-time video to anyone with internet access. Only law enforcement was supposed to see them. Motorola makes most of the cameras and says it’s now rolling out firmware updates to fix this mess. Too little, too late.
  • Best wildfire app: I’m praying for everyone in California near the wildfires. I went looking for the best source for folks dealing with wildfires and found the nonprofit Watch Duty. I talked with CEO John Mills after reading their story. They’re totally volunteer-run and deliver real-time updates across 13 states. Get their app on iPhoneAndroid or in your browser.
  • Saving car rental evidence: My pal Clark Howard always recommends taking pictures of a rental car before you drive away from the lot to prevent false damage claims. But when is it safe to delete them? Clark suggests keeping them for two months. Subscribe to Clark’s free newsletter* to receive more must-have money tips every day.
  • $1,500 in fines if you don’t clear snow and ice from your car. That includes the roof! Most states have laws against driving with snow on your car. As an Arizona gal, I had no idea. You’d probably end up paying a lot more than $1,500 if a giant slab of snow hit the person behind you.

CarPro Radio Show host Jerry Reynolds can count the number of products he's endorsed on one hand. He's had many opportunities, but after much due diligence, he usually ends up saying no.  Jerry won’t recommend a product or service unless he's tried it himself and feels good about recommending it.

  Jerry's Video Of The Week!

My hat is off to the Florida Highway Patrol officer who got in a chase with a stolen car.  Not only can this officer drive, he performs the best pit maneuver I have ever seen.  At about 8 minutes in length, it’s a little longer than I usually use, but worth every minute.  Note to the thief:  Next time, steal a better car!
