January 31, 2025

Dear CarPro Family,

We join the nation in mourning the loss of life in the horrific mid-air collision in DC this week when an American Airlines regional jet and U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter collided and crashed in the Potomac River. We also thank the first responders, many of whom are risking their lives in the recovery efforts. Our thoughts are with all those who lost loved ones. We also keep our California listeners in our thoughts and prayers after the horrific fires of late.

We welcome February tomorrow, and for many of us it puts us one step closer to warmer weather.  We’ve had a ton of cold weather lately and even snow in DFW, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and Lubbock got really blanketed.  I hope it didn’t happen, but if you were involved in a car wreck, don’t miss my FAQ articles on dealing with an insurance adjuster, and how to collect diminished value.

top-rated-carsWe have another jam-packed newsletter for you today, starting off with Edmunds’ list of the top-rated vehicles for 2025.  Many have expressed questions about the all-new, terrific 2025 Toyota 4Runner and we’ve got 5 things we know so far, plus for you Miata lovers, we have info on the beautiful 35th Anniversary Edition. Plus, the Texas Auto Writers announce the Truck and SUV of Texas award winners.

DFW friends, remember that tomorrow we start giving away 4 pairs of tickets for the North Texas Auto Expo, formerly the DFW Auto Show, that starts February 20th.  The North-Texas-Auto-Show-2025show runs until the 23rd and we will be doing the Car Pro Show LIVE from 9-2 PM Central on Saturday, February 22nd.  If you missed our discussion of the Auto Expo with Brent Franks, President of the North Texas Auto Dealers Association last Saturday, you can hear it here.

Just for fun, if you can get to New York tonight or tomorrow, you can have a gourmet meal INSIDE a new Cadillac Escalade, and the Illinois Secretary of State tells us about the personalized license plates his office rejected in 2024.  Dodge is looking for new Badassadors.  Find out how to apply to be of one of them.  Unfixed recalls are rising, as are cases of odometer rollbacks, another reason to get a history report.

Don’t miss Kim Komando’s Tech Tips and other useful information.  In advice today, for our senior citizen friends, or perhaps for your parents or grandparents, I give you 5 reasons seniors should consider leasing instead of buying.

chevy-blazerIn car reviews, I had the really good-looking and efficient 2025 Chevy Blazer all-electric SUV. Our Amy Plemons gives you a full and complete review of the 2025 Acura RDX A-Spec SUV.

Check the recall section to see if you may need to take action on your vehicle.  Miss a radio show?  Below we tell you how to get the podcast, and if you missed a newsletter, we tell you how to find the archive page where you can see the last 10 editions.  The incentives have gone up lately, but our Incentive Guide is always 100% up to date.

Plus, lots of other information you will enjoy, including my video of the week we talk about on the air all the time!  If you have never been to our FAQ page, take a minute and peruse the categories, something there will interest you for sure → FAQ.

We so appreciate all of you who take this newsletter and listen to the show every week.  We know that without you, there is no Car Pro Radio Show.  So always let us know when we can help you. If you have not been there lately, take a look at our website, carpro.com, it changes all the time!

Have a terrific week.  See you on the radio!

Kim Komando's Tech Tips and Information

Besides the Car Pro Show and our weekly newsletter, my other favorite radio show and newsletter is Kim Komando’s.  We're on many of the same radio stations across America.  She does for her listeners and newsletter subscribers exactly what I endeavor to do:  Give you useful information to keep you up to date on the latest in cars, only she does it with technology and there is nobody who does it better.  Not sure how she puts out a top-notch newsletter seven days a week, but she does.

Here are some items that I found interesting this week:

new-kim-kommando-graphi

  • Turning off alerts from your video doorbell is a mistake: Instead, set up custom motion zones. For a Ring doorbell, open the Ring app and select your device. Go to Motion Settings > Edit Motion Settings. To go into full don’t-bug-me mode, choose People Only.
  • 44%: Percentage of young Americans who don’t want to own a car. Adults ages 18 to 34 would rather call an Uber or Lyft or rent a ride on Turo. But we’re not heading to a robo-taxi future just yet; a solid 52% of all folks don’t trust self-driving cars. I won’t get in one.
  • Stargate will change everything: Yesterday’s announcement by President Trump, along with the biggest tech CEOs, is the most consequential technical project of the century. Stargate is bigger than anything. Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, OpenAI’s Sam Altman and SoftBank’s CEO Masayoshi Son declared a half-trillion-dollar investment in AI. In medicine, Stargate promises cures and the ability to stop most diseases from happening. We cannot fathom all this means except that our country will be an AI leader. Stargate will create an immediate 100,000 jobs.
  • The sky is falling: On Prince Edward Island in Canada, Laura Kelly’s doorbell cam caught the exact moment a meteorite fell. In a big first, the cam also caught the sound it made on impact. This happened last July, but scientists just released their findings. Huh … sounds different than I expected.
  • $0 To stream Super Bowl LIX on Tubi. All you need to sign up is an email address (no credit card, yay!). Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. ET on Feb. 9. No idea who’s playing yet, but I know you love it when something’s free!

From there, you can look through all your matches, knowing you are shopping at a dealership I have handpicked that adheres to the high standards I require.

  Exclusive Approved Products & Services

CarPro Radio Show host Jerry Reynolds can count the number of products he's endorsed on one hand. He's had many opportunities, but after much due diligence, he usually ends up saying no.  Jerry won’t recommend a product or service unless he's tried it himself and feels good about recommending it.

  Jerry's Video Of The Week!

I’ve never seen anything like this in my life. In this under two-minute video, you’ll
see a 46-vehicle pileup on a snowy freeway in Ohio. You’ll see dashcam video of 5
different 18-wheelers crashing into the pile. They couldn’t see the wreckage ahead,
and by the time they could, it’s too late. There were 4 fatalities, and I am surprised
there were not more.
