December 5,
2025

Dear Car Pro Family,

Welcome to December, friends, the month we’ve all waited for, at least those who are in the market to buy or lease a new set of wheels.  In my advice column today, I tell you why December is so good.  We’ve brought you quite a few fun and helpful holiday articles the past month or so, but if you’ve missed any of them, we have a summary below as well as links to find them.

We start today with the November sales results for the nation, see which automakers were winners and losers. Also below, you can read about the Trump plan to lower Biden-era fuel economy standards. We have a number of other lists for you, including the 10 best & worst times to buy a used vehicle, the 10 most expensive cars auctioned off this year, and the nine finalists for the big auto award of the year, the North American Car, Truck, and Utility vehicle.

Whatever you do, don’t miss Chevrolet’s 2025 holiday video titled: Memory LaneI give you last year’s as well which I think is the best ever.  Also below, we introduce you to an advanced, new female crash dummy.  Her name?  Thor.  I didn’t make that up. My friends at NHTSA asked me to share with you their very comprehensive Winter Driving tips and I am obliged to do so.

Kim Komando has some cool tech tips this week and don’t miss Kim’s Fun Quiz, the answer is at the very bottom of this newsletter, under my closing message, which is titled: The Silent Kind Of Car Trouble and I hope you’ll go to the bottom and read it.   I have a whole new batch of quirky and funny Quick Shift stories for you today, and don’t forget to go shopping in the Car Pro Merch shop, lots of good stuff there.  Get caught up on the tariff news!

In car reviews, I had two beautiful 3-row luxury SUVs you can find out about.  I had the 2026 Lexus TX 550h+ plug-in hybrid SUV and the 2026 Infiniti QX60 Sport all-wheel drive SUV.  Our Amy Plemons gives you an in-depth look at the super popular 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid compact SUV.

If you have never read my True Stories from a Former Car Dealer series, may I suggest you do soPeople have loved this for a lot of years now.  You’ll learn more about me than you probably want to know, you’ll roar with laughter at some, and you’ll likely get a tear in your eyes on others.  They are all right here, 40 of them, carefully written by yours truly.

If you haven’t perused my FAQ page, please do.  There are likely multiple articles you can use, every one of them written by me.

rundown-2-dec-5

All of our other regular features are below including the Classic Car Contest, our radio station listings, how to connect with us on Facebook and call the show to talk directly to me, and much, much, more.

We very much appreciate you being part of the newsletter family.  Without you, there is no Car Pro Show.  Let us know how we can help you, and if you haven’t been to our website lately, check it out at CarPro.com. It changes daily.

Have a terrific week.  See you on the radio!

Kim Komando Quiz and Interesting Info

new-kim-kommando-graphi

Besides the Car Pro Show and our weekly newsletter, my other favorite radio show and newsletter is Kim Komando’s.  We are on many of the same radio stations across America.  She does for her listeners and newsletter subscribers exactly what I endeavor to do:  Give you useful information to keep you up to date on the latest in cars, only she does it with technology and there is nobody who does it better.  Not sure how she puts out a top-notch newsletter seven days a week, but she does.

Kim’s Quiz:
Talk about a high-pressure purchase that paid off. A scrappy group of founders once maxed out their credit cards buying 1,000 air mattresses. Yep, air mattresses. That wild bet blew up into a billion-dollar empire. Was it: A) Airbnb, B) Wayfair, C) Expedia or D) Zillow?

*Answer below my closing message at the very bottom of this newsletter.

Interesting items I found in this week’s Kim Komando newsletter:

  • Save on gas: ICYMI, until Dec. 26, Amazon Prime members get 25¢ off per gallon on Fridays. Download the Earnify app (iOS and Android), link your Amazon account and look for a bp, Amoco or ampm station in the app. At the pump, enter your phone number or use the app to apply the discount. After the promo, you’ll still get 10¢ off per gallon.

  • Night light nonsense: That little glow from your TV or phone could be messing with your heart. A huge study found that people exposed to more nighttime light had way higher risks of heart failure, heart attack and stroke, like up to 56% higher. It’s all tied to your circadian rhythm getting confused.
  • Rotten Apple: There’s a new scam going around that’s freakier than usual because it uses real Apple alerts to make the fake ones look legit. A guy named Eric got flooded with genuine two-factor codes, then a “support call,” then an official Apple email, all timed perfectly so he trusted the next text, which was the trap. He almost handed over everything. If Apple calls you out of nowhere, hang up and call them yourself.

  • ✈️ Proof of humanity: Heads up, if you show up at TSA without a REAL ID or
passport, you might get hit with an $18 “identity check” fee. Think of it like paying a cover charge for a really bad club. Officers run your face through a new biometric kiosk, so they can confirm you’re you. The $18 pass lasts 10 days, so forget your ID two weeks later and, boom, you’re paying again. Just don’t say boom at the airport.

  • 🔔 Mount your video doorbell properly: The ideal height is about 48 inches from the ground. Most lenses have a wide field of view, so mounting it higher can trigger false alerts as the sun moves across your porch. PSA: Before the Black Friday deliveries roll in, consider a lockable drop box to keep packages safe.

  The Car Pro Has Mail!

I had an amazing experience at Sam Pack’s dealership in Carrollton.  We talked on the air a week ago and I headed straight there.  I drove over an hour and a half and I would do it again for sure.

I got a great deal on a new 2025 F150, which I love.  Trey, RJ, and everyone at 5 Star was just so nice.

THANKS SO MUCH for what you do.  I am a second-time user of the Car Pro VIP program, but I will never buy a car any other way.

Jerry,

Thank you, your show provides the opportunity to deal directly with the dealership sales management on a high level, professional basis. Sewell Cadillac Grapevine was quick to get back to me within 2 hours after receiving the initial CarPro contact through your website. The dealership recognizes the value of their relationship with you and your show and it further enhances their excellent customer service orientation.  Not sure how you did it, but you really did find an easier way to buy a car.

I wanted to thank you for directing me to Max Stamer at Sewell BMW of Plano. He made the car buying experience the best car purchase I've ever made over the last 40 years. If there is a way to provide Max and/or Sewell BMW of Plano a tip of the hat - he has earned that.

I just have to say that the Car Pro song was absolutely beautiful.  I have listened to it many times and shared it with a lot of my friends and family.  Everyone agrees it is well done and very professional. You and Todd may have a sideline here!

Keep up the great work and thank you for always bringing something new and different to the airwaves.  I never miss a show!

Jerry's Must-Watch Video of the Week!

It’s only :24 long, but it’s enough to make a grown Car Guy cry.  An 18-wheeler in Schertz, TX near San Antonio recently stopped on train tracks, carrying a full load of vehicles, including a Corvette.  Of course, a train was coming and well, you can guess the rest.

My Closing Message: The Silent Kind of Car Trouble

unnamed-2Every week I swim in numbers. Incentives, interest rates, days’ supply, resale values, miles per gallon, kilowatts and charging times. The car business has turned into an Excel spreadsheet with cupholders, and I spend a lot of my time trying to translate all that into English for you. You’d think that if you just stared at the numbers long enough, the truth would pop right out at you. But it rarely works that way.

I’ve met people over the years who bought “the perfect deal” on paper and hated the car within six months. Payment was right, APR was low, rebate was big, and they still woke up every day irritated the second they hit the start button. The seat hurt their back. The screen made them crazy. The engine noise droned just enough to get on their nerves. None of that shows up in a spreadsheet.

I’ve also known plenty who, by the numbers, probably “overbought.” They could have saved a few bucks a month, picked something more basic, taken the extra rebate. But they didn’t. They bought the one that made them smile when they walked out of the house. The one that made a bad day at work a little better on the drive home. That doesn’t show up in the data either, but you feel it every time they talk about their car.

The industry right now is completely obsessed with metrics. EV adoption curves, take rates on driver-assist packages, average transaction prices pushing the stratosphere. Dealers are looking at click-through rates, OEMs are looking at conquest percentages, and shoppers are staring at credit-score apps like they’re looking at their permanent record. I’m not saying the numbers don’t matter — they absolutely do. A bad interest rate or a car that depreciates like a rock can hurt you for years. I talk about that all the time on the show.

But there’s a danger in letting the numbers be the only voice in the room. If you’ve been around this business very long, you know people don’t fall in love with a monthly payment. They fall in love with how a car makes them feel when they merge onto the freeway, or how easy it is to load the grandkids’ football gear, or the way the seat heaters take the sting out of a cold morning.

It’s a little like judging a marriage by looking only at the checking account balance. It tells you something, but not the thing that really matters.

So, if you’re car shopping right now — and I know a lot of you are — here’s my advice: do your homework, absolutely. Know your budget, compare prices, and don’t skip the boring stuff like insurance quotes and tax rates. But once you’ve narrowed it down to two or three choices that all make sense on paper, you have my permission to stop thinking like an accountant and start thinking like a human being.

Drive them all. Sit in them longer than the salesperson expects. Pair your phone, fiddle with the radio presets, adjust the mirrors three times, try the back seat, open the hatch. Ask yourself a simple question: “Can I live with this every day?” If the answer is anything short of an honest yes, keep looking — even if the payment is pretty.

Cars are expensive now. They were expensive when I was selling them, and they sure haven’t gotten cheaper since. If you’re going to marry a payment for the next five or six years, you deserve more than just a ‘good deal.’ You deserve something that fits your life, your back, your driveway, and maybe even your personality a little bit.

The spreadsheets will tell you what you can buy. Only your gut will tell you what you’ll be happy with.

As always, my goal and the goal of every single Car Pro Certified Dealer is simple: I don’t just want you to own a car that made sense on paper. I want you to look back a few years from now and say, “You know what? I’d buy that one again from the exact same dealership.”

Straight Talk and Honest Answers — always.

A) Airbnb, founded with nothing but a living room, some hustle and 1,000 air mattresses charged to the founders’ credit cards. The OG business plan? Host conference-goers who couldn’t find a hotel. They called it Air Bed & Breakfast, and the rest is inflatable history.
