August 7, 2026
Dear Car Pro Family,
I hope the week has been a good one for you and yours. We bring you a lot of good information this week, so take your time going through it to make sure you don’t miss something of importance. As always, if you think something here might help someone else, feel free to forward it to them and invite them to join our newsletter family.
We start today with a special report titled: The High Cost Of No-Haggle Pricing. Seven years ago, I looked at used car prices at the big box used car operators, namely CarMax and Carvana. They are proud of the fact that they don’t haggle on price. That will certainly result in a pleasant experience, but what does that cost you? The 2019 study I did conclusively showed you’d pay more at one of those places versus a franchised new vehicle dealership. I decided to look at it again and guess what? It is still that way today. I give you all the facts below and I bring the receipts. Don’t miss this comprehensive study.
Also today, we’ve got the 25 best-selling SUVs of all sizes in America through the midway point of this year. I remind you that school is starting back and to watch out for the kiddos. I share with you a couple of emails I got after my closing message about former Ford CEO Alan Mulally, and also one from the New York Sanitation Department regarding a Quick Shifts story from last week.
In a follow-up to the Sacramento caller who was considering a salvage titled vehicle, a Utah man is facing 15 felony charges for forgery in a scheme to make former salvaged cars have clean titles, a practice known as title washing. We have info for you on the new 2027 Nissan Z sports car and also a new Audi SUV called the Q9, which is the largest ever produced by them.
In advice this week, I give you some things to think about in a column titled Questions I Wish People Asked Me. Then at the very bottom of the newsletter, my closing message: The Customers Who Scared Me The Most. I hope you enjoy both of these original articles.
For this week’s car reviews, I have the 2026 Ram 1500 Big Horn Crew Cab 4x4, a very nice pickup that is more affordable than most out there. Our Amy Plemons brings you a full review of the 2026 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid. True Story #24 is called Dick, and it’s all about a salesperson in my early car business days that taught me more than I taught him. As usual we have Kim Komando’s quiz and a bunch of other tech items you can use. I’d also recommend you subscribe to her newsletter, and I give you a link to do so. I’ve also got some great stories for this week’s Quick Shifts, and lots of action in the legal roundup: Suits & Settlements.
If you haven’t perused my FAQ page, please do. There are likely multiple articles you can use, every one of them written by me, AND NEW ONES being added every week, so don’t miss out, look at all the stories all the way to the bottom.
We very much appreciate you being part of the newsletter family. Without you, there is no Car Pro Show. Let us know how we can help you, and if you haven’t been to our website lately, check it out at CarPro.com. It changes daily.
Have a terrific week, stay safe, and we’ll see you on the radio!
