Dear Car Pro family,

Question: What are you missing? Do you typically go through the whole newsletter? It’s OK if you don’t, but I hear regularly from people asking me questions, many of them answered below or by my FAQ page. There is a lot of info here and we work really hard on this to help you. Every week besides info I think you might use or be interested in, I have a new advice column, a new closing message, the recalls, and Kim Komando’s Tips. I find something extremely useful every week from her.

Today, I have a Special Report for you about car dealer advertising laws. If you’ve been burned chasing down a price that was false and misleading, take a moment and read this article. I give you the statutes that are violated and who to turn them in to. I have the February sales results for you, and I have a sad story about a guy that sold his nearly new truck on Facebook Marketplace and was totally scammed. He’s still got the monthly payment, but he doesn’t have the truck.

I also have for you the song we played on the air last Saturday. I wrote it after the U.S. Hockey teams took Gold in the Olympics. It is titled Gold Beneath Old Glory and you are free to share it with whomever you think might enjoy it. It is also the same title of my closing message today at the bottom of this newsletter. Also, many thanks to all who reached out about the 24th Anniversary of our show on WBAP, now going for 25 if the Lord is willing!  Kevin McCarthy was our special guest on the Dallas show, if you missed it, catch the podcast at WBAP.com.

True Story #3 is also at the bottom, and it is called God Land. It is a bizarre tale that unfolded as I was leaving my dealership one day and if I hadn’t seen it with my own two eyes, I’d never have believed it. In car reviews, I have the 2026 Kia Sportage plug-in hybrid, which is a real contender in hybrid SUVs. Our Amy Plemons brings you a review of the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy hybrid. In advice, I try to enlighten you on why your brakes squeal! In another article, I tell you how fuel economy rules helped kill the spare tire.

I also want you to know that now you can either sell your car OR put it on consignment at CarPro.com. You now have two great options, and you’ll find both under SELL A CAR at the very top of the front page of the website, take a look! We’ve been working on this for our listeners for a long time, and it finally came to fruition.

Check the recall section to see if you may need to take action on your vehicle. Miss a radio show? Below we tell you how to get the podcast, and if you missed a newsletter, we tell you how to find the archive page where you can see the last 10 editions. The incentives have gone up lately, but our Incentive Guide is always 100% up to date.

All of our other regular features are below including the Classic Car Contest, the radio stations we are on, how to call the show to talk directly to me, and much, much, more.

We very much appreciate you being part of the newsletter family.  Without you, there is no Car Pro Show.  Let us know how we can help you, and if you haven’t been to our website lately, check it out at CarPro.com. It changes daily.

Have a terrific week.  See you on the radio!

Special Report: Understanding Dealer Ad Laws

special-report2

I have stated many times that one of the reasons I started The Car Pro Show 24 ½ years ago was to call attention to the good car dealers of our country, but also to keep people from shopping with the bad dealers. I see it all the time-people fall for a bait & switch price, or a price that includes rebates many people don’t qualify for. The newest deception involves an advertised price somewhere, including on the dealer’s website, that doesn’t include dealer “add-ons” that are already on the car. This is not revealed until deep in the process of buying and by then, people are worn down and they relent. They also just validated the dishonest behavior of that dealer, and guess what? The dealer keeps doing it because it works. Simply put, you are aiding and abetting an illegal act.

I took a look at the advertising laws in Texas and California, our two largest listening areas and will break them down for you. If you choose not to shop with one of my Car Pro Certified Dealers, and you run across a dealer that breaks the law, I tell you below where to turn them in and give I even give you the specific statutes to cite.

Perhaps together, we can make life harder on bad car dealers, and in turn, help the good men and women who do it right, with honor, integrity, and truthfulness.

In this special report, I breakdown the major rules, statutory authority, and how consumers can file complaints if they believe a violation has occurred.

Man Loses Nearly New Truck On Facebook Marketplace

How many times have I warned listeners not to sell anything of value on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist? It is a very risky proposition as a Knox County, Tenn., man can confirm. He says he is out nearly $93,000 after selling his 2025 Chevrolet Silverado in what he believed was a legitimate private transaction, only to learn the loan on the truck had not actually been paid off.

How Fuel Economy Standards Killed The Spare Tire

spare-tire-goodbye

If you’ve shopped for a new vehicle lately, you may have noticed something missing when you lift that cargo floor. Instead of a full-size spare—or even a compact “donut”—you’re likely to find an air compressor, a can of sealant, and a polite suggestion in the owner’s manual about how to use it. Automakers didn’t eliminate spare tires by accident. There are several reasons, and none of them involve nostalgia.

My Newest Song:  Gold Beneath Old Glory

I never want it to be a secret or surprise that I am a Patriotic person. I am not naïve, there are problems in America, and there is division. But don’t try to convince me that America isn’t the best damned country on earth. Those emotions ran rampant through me as I watched both the Men’s and the Women’s U.S. Olympic Hockey teams win the Gold medal. Their pride showed on their faces, in their reactions to the winning goals, and most of all in their hearts.

Their pride and love for America prompted me to do two things. First, I wrote a song and titled it Gold Beneath Old Glory and I let Suno sing it and put the music to it. I think it turned out nicely and have had a lot of compliments on it. Second, I titled my closing message today the same as the song but went into great detail about the correlation between winning the Gold, and my experiences in business and on the radio.

If you like the song, share it with someone that might enjoy it. And take moment and read my closing message at the bottom of this newsletter. May we all get the spirit of those warriors on the ice, fighting for America, taking hits, and losing teeth. And may God bless these United States of America.

Sell Or Consign Your Car For Top Dollar!

SELL-YOUR-CAR-

I hear from a lot of people who end up with an extra car for some reason. Sometimes it is due to a death in the family, or someone gets transferred overseas, or I’ve seen many occasions where this happens. Well now, we have two ways to dispose of a vehicle.

ThisCar has been with us for quite some time. They are terrific buyers and make the transactions very easy. They have helped many of our listeners and I’ve had terrific feedback. They are great, too, if you need a good idea what your car is truly worth and as I always say, a car is only worth what someone is willing to write a check for it. ThisCar writes checks, and lots of them.

Now, if you have more time, RetailMyRide.com is now an official partner of the Car Pro Show and they take cars on consignment. You’ve heard me recommend them in the past most likely, and they have helped many of our listeners. They market the car at all the right places, they get top dollar for it, take a little off the top, and you get the rest. It’s that simple. No people coming to your house, calling or texting, no worrying about how to complete the paperwork, they do all that for you.

So, the question is: Do you want quick cash or the most cash? We’ve got you covered either way with CarPro AppraisalPro OR CarPro ConsignPro.

It all starts at CarPro.com, click SELL A CAR at the top, or click here →

Kim Komando Quiz and Interesting Info

new-kim-kommando-graphi

Besides the Car Pro Show and our weekly newsletter, my other favorite radio show and newsletter is Kim Komando’s.  We are on many of the same radio stations across America.  She does for her listeners and newsletter subscribers exactly what I endeavor to do:  Give you useful information to keep you up to date on the latest in cars, only she does it with technology and there is nobody who does it better.  Not sure how she puts out a top-notch newsletter seven days a week, but she does.

💡Kim’s Quiz:

You probably hit “Print” the way you click “I agree” on terms and conditions. Boldly, blindly, zero fear. But your printer cartridge is hiding one of the biggest markups in consumer history. Ounce for ounce, brand-name ink costs more than high-end perfume. More than champagne. More than human blood. Seriously.

So, here’s the question. How much on average does brand-name printer ink cost per gallon? A) $200, B) $800, C) $2,700 or D) $12,000?

*Answer below my closing message at the very bottom of this newsletter

Some Interesting Items I Found In Kim’s Daily Newsletter!

  • Drove off with the lot: Looks like CarGurus, one of the biggest auto shopping sites in America, popped up on the ShinyHunters dark web leak site. Millions of buyers and sellers use CarGurus, and details are still emerging on exactly what data was accessed. If you’ve bought, sold or even browsed cars on CarGurus, keep a close eye on your financial accounts and consider a credit freeze before your data gets a test drive.

  • Olympics yard sale: I saw this and immediately thought, fair. The 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics handed every one of the roughly 3,800 athletes a limited-edition Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7, plus piles of sponsor gear. Some Team USA folks turned around and listed it on eBay within days. I’m talking about phones at $2,500. Snowboarder Hahna Norman says people think Olympians are loaded. Most aren’t. Rent still shows up.

  • What the phonk: Ever watch a Reel, feel your heart rate spike and not know why? That’s phonk, the sneaky soundtrack (paywall link) behind half the internet. YouTube says the genre’s biggest producer, Slxughter, reached 981 million unique viewers last month. That’s not a typo. Teens are making these tracks in bedrooms and clearing serious cash. You’re not choosing phonk. It’s choosing you. Here, take a listen. I think it’s a lot like elevator music, bad on so many levels.

  • 3-second tech genius: YouTube Picture-in-Picture mode is free, and nobody told you. Right-click the video. Now right-click it again. The menu changes. Select Picture-in-picture, and the video floats over all your current tabs while you work. No Premium required. You’re welcome.

  • Silence unknown callers forever: Tired of spam calls interrupting dinner? On iPhone: Settings > Phone > Silence Unknown Callers. On Android: Phone app > Settings > Caller ID & Spam > Filter spam calls. People in your contacts still ring through. Everyone else goes straight to voicemail. Easy.

  • I can’t keep this quiet anymore. Next week, I’m launching Splash of AI, a brand-new weekly newsletter all about AI, built for you. Every Thursday. Five minutes. One thing to try, one tool to test, one scam to dodge and one fact that’ll make you the smartest person in the room. I’ve been using AI every day for over three years. It changed how I work, save money and protect my family. Now I’m handing you the playbook. Free. Issue #1 drops next Thursday. Click here to sign up before it lands.

  • Big Bear's favorite celebrity couple is back: Bald eagles Jackie and Shadow, stars of one of the internet's most-watched livestreams, laid a third egg after heartbreak. Their first two eggs were cracked and then raided by a raven. Fans were devastated. But Jackie's hormones reset, and she dropped a surprise egg. She could even lay a fourth. Watch it live here. Eagles have so many skills. One could say they are very talon-ted.

Jerry's Must-Watch Video of the Week!

I should learn not to say: “I’ve seen it all.” Just last week, two vehicles stopped side by side at a red light in Omaha, NE like we’ve all done thousands of times. In this under 2-minute video, you’ll see both car swallowed by a sinkhole. Amazing footage from a street camera. I like the way the guy in the truck behind this backs up and slinks away! Watch it all for a great second angle of the collapse.

True Stories From A Former Car Dealer

god-land-graphic

This is #3 in a series of 40 stories written by me about occurrences from my days in the car business. Each story had a lasting impression on me for some reason or another. Some because they were funny, some because they were sad, and some were just strange. But whatever the case, over the next 38 weeks, we’ll feature one of them, in order for you to enjoy.

Today, is God Land, a crazy story that happened at my largest Ford Dealership in Garland, TX, a suburb of Dallas. The story starts as I was leaving for the day, just another routine day. This is from the beginning of the story:

On a day that will be burned into my memory forever, I looked out at the customer parking area, and unloading out of two large passenger vans was a group of people of foreign descent, all wearing white robes. Most had on some sort of hat or headwear, a few wore cowboy hats, and all wore sandals.

It gets crazier from there. Enjoy!

  Closing Message From Jerry

Gold Beneath Old Glory

Depending on your age, there are certain moments that make you stop whatever you’re doing and just watch. No scrolling. No channel surfing. Just watch.

For me, watching both the U.S. Men’s and Women’s Hockey teams win gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics was one of those moments.

Hockey is not a sport for the faint of heart. It’s fast. It’s physical. It’s relentless. You can do everything right for 59 minutes and lose it in the final 60 seconds. It demands conditioning, discipline, teamwork, and a willingness to take a hit and get right back up like nothing happened.

Sound familiar?

When I wrote Gold Beneath Old Glory, that phrase kept bouncing around in my head. Everybody sees the medal ceremony. The flag rising. The anthem playing. The smiles, the tears, the pure pride of representing something bigger than yourself.

What people don’t see is the 5 a.m. practices. The busted lips. The losses that felt like the end of the world. The years of work when nobody was watching and nobody was applauding.

The gold is what shines.

But it’s what’s beneath the glory that earns it.

I couldn’t help but think about that watching those teams stand on the ice. And I couldn’t help but think about my own path — in the car business and on the radio.

When I got into the automobile business, there were no medals. There were long days, longer nights, and more than a few humbling moments. Selling cars isn’t glamorous. Running a dealership certainly isn’t. It’s inventory shortages, factory disputes, advertising budgets, customers who are thrilled, and customers who are furious — sometimes all before lunch.

You earn your reputation one handshake at a time. You earn trust by keeping your word when it costs you money. You build something brick by brick, deal by deal, year by year.

Nobody hands you gold for that.

And when we launched The Car Pro Show 24 years ago, there wasn’t exactly a parade waiting for us either. Just a microphone, a phone line, and a belief that honest advice still mattered. Saturday after Saturday, answering questions. Explaining the fine print. Helping people avoid mistakes. Trying to make the car buying process a little less confusing and a lot more transparent.

Like hockey, it’s a team effort. Producers, co-hosts, affiliates, our Car Pro dealers, and you — the listeners and readers who show up week after week. You don’t build something that lasts without a locker room full of people pulling in the same direction.

The Olympic teams reminded me of that.

Success isn’t loud most of the time. It’s disciplined. It’s repetitive. It’s sometimes boring. It’s showing up when you don’t feel like it. It’s doing the right thing when no one is keeping score.

Then one day, you look up and realize the scoreboard tells a story.

Gold doesn’t happen by accident. Neither does a successful business. Neither does a radio show that’s still standing after two decades in an industry that chews people up and spits them out.

What I loved most about watching those teams was the pride. Not arrogance. Not chest-thumping. Just quiet pride in representing their country well. In doing things the right way. In honoring the people who helped them get there.

That’s something I’ve always tried to carry in my own career — pride in doing it right, not just doing it big.

Gold Beneath Old Glory isn’t just about hockey. It’s about any pursuit worth chasing. It’s about the unseen effort behind the visible reward. It’s about remembering that success — real success — is built long before anyone is watching.

And maybe that’s why those Olympic moments hit so hard.

Because deep down, we all understand that the medal is just metal.

It’s what’s beneath it that matters.

Straight Talk and Honest Answers — always.

 💡Kim Komando Answer:

C) Approximately $2,700 per gallon. A gallon of gas runs you around $3.50. A gallon of milk, about $4. A gallon of brand-name printer ink? Roughly $2,700. That makes it more expensive per ounce than Dom Perignon, Chanel No. 5 and, yes, human blood ($1,500/gallon).

HP, Canon and Epson make an estimated 60% of their printing revenue from ink and toner, not printers. That’s why a new printer often costs less than replacing its cartridges. The fix? Third-party ink cartridges work fine for everyday printing at a fraction of the cost. Your printer might throw a warning. Ignore it.

Or as I mentioned the other day, a basic Brother laser runs about $140, and one cartridge lasts over 1,000 pages. Inkjets are for people who print daily. The rest of us need a laser.
