24 year caricature show promo
February 27, 2026

Dear Car Pro family,

Well, here we are at the end of the month and many of the Car Pro Dealers are needing to sell cars badly. That means quick, easy deals and bargains galore. I explain below. Tomorrow, we’ll celebrate the start of our 25th broadcast year on WBAP and Kevin McCarthy is going to join us to celebrate. Full details below also.

Just a few of the items of interest below: We have a Tsunami of used electric cars coming into the market this year from leases in 2022 and 2023. A Los Angeles Honda dealer used LAPD to repossess a car by reporting it stolen, not a good move. Before you click “I accept” on the screen of your car, you better read the article below on this subject. BringATrailer.com had a record year selling cars online and one of them was the Griswold’s station wagon from Vacation. We also have the Robb Report Car of the Year, and Edmunds Top-Rated vehicle picks.

DON’T MISS Kim Komando’s Fun Quiz and other interesting tech tips of the week, answer to the quiz is at the very bottom of this newsletter, under my closing message & True Story. I have a whole new batch of quirky and funny Quick Shift stories for you, and don’t forget to go shopping in the Car Pro Merch shop, lots of good stuff there. In advice today, I tell you why The Showroom Isn’t A Battlefield.

True Story #2 is at the bottom, and it is called The Camper. This is probably the most talked about of the 40 story series, don’t miss it. And just below that is my closing message titled: Keep America Rolling-Then and Now.

In car reviews, I have the 2026 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X pickup truck. Our Amy Plemons brings you a review of the 2026 Mazda3 Turbo Premium Plus sporty compact sedan.

I also want you to know that now you can either sell your car OR put it on consignment at CarPro.com. You now have two great options, and you’ll find both under SELL A CAR at the very top of the front page of the website, take a look! We’ve been working on this for our listeners for a long time, and it finally came to fruition.

If you haven’t perused my FAQ page, please do. There are a LOT of new advice articles there written by me. You'll see them marked as NEW

Check the recall section to see if you may need to take action on your vehicle. Miss a radio show? Below we tell you how to get the podcast, and if you missed a newsletter, we tell you how to find the archive page where you can see the last 10 editions. The incentives have gone up lately, but our Incentive Guide is always 100% up to date.

All of our other regular features are below including the Classic Car Contest, the radio stations we are on, how to call the show to talk directly to me, and much, much, more.

We very much appreciate you being part of the newsletter family.  Without you, there is no Car Pro Show.  Let us know how we can help you, and if you haven’t been to our website lately, check it out at CarPro.com. It changes daily.

Have a terrific week.  See you on the radio!

Celebrating The Start Of Our 25th Year On WBAP!

24-th-10

We celebrate a milestone Saturday on the Car Pro Show. This marks the beginning of our 25th straight year of broadcasting on our home station in DFW, News/Talk 820 AM and now 93.3 FM WBAP.

I’ve actually been on the air 24½ years total, but our first six months Kevin and I were testing the waters on a small, fairly terrible radio station. We knew if people would call us on that station, we’d be ready for big time. Call it a dress rehearsal of sorts.

Congratulations to the entire Car Pro Show staff, especially my trusty sidekick Kevin McCarthy for 23 years beside me, and to Todd Chambless for stepping in a year and half ago. Also, many thanks to our Executive Producer and taskmaster Amy Plemons, and the staff at WBAP who have supported us since day one. Thanks to our amazing dealer partners for backing up everything I say on air, taking care of listeners, and selling cars much cheaper than they’d like to. Plus, special thanks to all the Car Pro Show staff behind the scenes.

My Trusty Sidekick, Kevin McCarthy will join me at 9:35 CST tomorrow on WBAP to celebrate the start of our 25th year. He was with me for the first 23 ½ years and many of you have wondered how he was doing, so I’ll let you hear for yourself. Tune in to 820 AM/93.3 FM and from anywhere, just click LISTEN LIVE at WBAP.com.

Most of all, I thank you, our listening audience. Without you, there is no Car Pro Show. I’d have never believed 24 years ago that we would be on the air from coast-to-coast. We fought tough odds-most laughed and said: “that Texan will never make it in Los Angeles”.

That was 16 years ago.

Thanks to everyone for making the Car Pro Show the most listened to auto advice show in the country, six Best Of Texas radio show awards from the Texas Auto Writers Association, and my recent induction into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame. We are currently on 66 radio stations across America and thankful to each one of them.

Last Weekend Of The Month - It's Bargain Time!

last-weekend-deals-canvapro-jan-26This is the last two days of February, which means the deals are going to get even better. Inventories are building fast and, in fact, many of our dealers are overstocked and eager to move some metal and avoid big interest bills on their vehicle stock, especially with interest rates so high. It is actually less expensive to sell a vehicle at a very low profit or even a loss, than it is to pay a big interest bill. I know this from personal experience.

February brings TRUCK MONTH for Ford and Ram, which bring bigger incentives on pickups and SUVs. While it isn’t officially truck month at General Motors and Toyota, they still raise their incentives, too, just to stay competitive.

Unusually good incentives have increased across the board as the month has gone on, as I predicted, so your timing is good to get yourself a bargain. Truck/SUV incentives have really seen escalations. For instance, on the #1 selling vehicle in America, the F-150, in many markets the 2025 models have as much as $6,750 in cash back BEFORE the Car Pro Show listeners discount. There is a lot of 0% financing out there as well.

If you have a trade-in, used car values have continually ticked up the past three weeks, which makes no sense, but it is reality. Car dealers needing to sell new cars will stretch way out on trade values just to make a deal.

You can visit any of our dealers by clicking FIND A CERTIFIED CAR PRO DEALER NEAR YOU toward the top of the page at CarPro.com, it’s the green button on the left.

Clicking "I Accept" On Your Car's Screen Is Not Wise

review_337093_8I’ve done it too, so don’t feel bad. It is easier to just hit I Accept than to read all the legalese crap on your car’s infotainment screen. You just want to change the radio or punch an address into the navigation system. You bypass it and plan to go back and read it, but about the 5th time it pops up, you surrender and accept. That is likely what happened to Philip Siefke after getting his new Toyota. His info was shared to Progressive Insurance and no telling who else, but now he can’t sue-he has to settle. All because he clicked I Accept.

Sell Or Consign Your Car For Top Dollar!

SELL-YOUR-CAR-

I hear from a lot of people who end up with an extra car for some reason. Sometimes it is due to a death in the family, or someone gets transferred overseas, or I’ve seen many occasions where this happens. Well now, we have two ways to dispose of a vehicle.

ThisCar has been with us for quite some time. They are terrific buyers and make the transactions very easy. They have helped many of our listeners and I’ve had terrific feedback. They are great, too, if you need a good idea what your car is truly worth and as I always say, a car is only worth what someone is willing to write a check for it. ThisCar writes checks, and lots of them.

Now, if you have more time, RetailMyRide.com is now an official partner of the Car Pro Show and they take cars on consignment. You’ve heard me recommend them in the past most likely, and they have helped many of our listeners. They market the car at all the right places, they get top dollar for it, take a little off the top, and you get the rest. It’s that simple. No people coming to your house, calling or texting, no worrying about how to complete the paperwork, they do all that for you.

So, the question is: Do you want quick cash or the most cash? We’ve got you covered either way with CarPro AppraisalPro OR CarPro ConsignPro.

It all starts at CarPro.com, click SELL A CAR at the top, or click here →

Kim Komando Quiz and Interesting Info

new-kim-kommando-graphi

Besides the Car Pro Show and our weekly newsletter, my other favorite radio show and newsletter is Kim Komando’s.  We are on many of the same radio stations across America.  She does for her listeners and newsletter subscribers exactly what I endeavor to do:  Give you useful information to keep you up to date on the latest in cars, only she does it with technology and there is nobody who does it better.  Not sure how she puts out a top-notch newsletter seven days a week, but she does.

💡Kim’s Quiz:

Picture this: You just nailed the landing at the 2026 Winter Olympics. The anthem plays. Your mascara goes full waterfall on live TV. Iconic. You trained your entire life for this moment. Surely there's a massive payday waiting, right?

🤑 How much cold, hard cash does a U.S. gold medalist actually take home? A) $250,000, B) $100,000, C) $37,500 or D) $0. The answer is doing a triple axel at the end.

*Answer below my closing message at the very bottom of this newsletter

Some Interesting Items I Found In Kim’s Daily Newsletter!

  • Car-ching: Your toaster doesn’t upsell you mid-bagel, but your car thinks it’s a rolling paywall. Audi, Volkswagen and BMW are locking navigation, Wi-Fi and hands-free driving behind monthly subscriptions, even features already installed. On top of the $50,000+ you paid. Oh, and your car might be selling your driving data to insurers, bumping your premium. It’s only a matter of time before honking becomes ad-supported.
  • Post Mortem: Meta filed a patent for an AI that can act like you on their apps, liking, commenting and replying after you’re gone, like permanently gone. It trains on your post history and could simulate audio or video calls. Nothing says closure like getting a typing bubble from someone who passed away in 2019. Rest in peace? More like rest in posts. Yikes.
  • 3-second tech genius: Found an old phone in a drawer? It can still save a life. Any phone can dial 911, even without a SIM card, even if it's locked with a passcode. From the lock screen, tap Emergency and dial 911. As long as there's any cellular signal, the call goes through. Toss one in your glove box or your kid's backpack. It's a free emergency phone you already own.
  • Police can find you from a photo. Not from your face. From the trees, dirt and buildings behind you. 404 Media obtained internal emails showing departments like Miami-Dade and the LAPD bought access to GeoSpy, an AI tool that pinpoints a photo's exact location in seconds by reading the background. That vacation selfie on your public Instagram? It's basically a GPS pin. If your social media is public, you're handing strangers a map to everywhere you go.
  • 3-second tech genius: Want to remove the background from any photo on your iPhone? Open the photo, long-press on the subject and watch it lift right off the background. Tap Copy and paste it into a text, email or note. You just did in two seconds what used to require Photoshop. Android users, open the photo in Google Photos, tap the subject and hit Copy Image. True genius right there.
  • Your doorbell can talk to strangers: Ring doorbells can warn people when they get too close by saying, “Hi, you are currently being recorded,” through the built-in speaker. To turn it on, open the Ring app, tap More on the camera > Settings > Smart Responses > Motion Warning. It might scare off porch pirates before they get ideas.

FOR YOUR CAR:

  • Old car, new tricks: Plug a Bluetooth adapter (20% off, $20) into your lighter for wireless streaming, hands-free calls and fast charging in one gadget.
  • Commute in comfort: An ergonomic seat cushion (20% off, $48) adds support on long drives. When you get home, you can put it on your desk chair.
  • Desk on your dash: This steering wheel tray (25% off, $30) lets you work while parked. One side is flat for laptops, the other is curved for snacks.
  • Flat tire? Not today. This pumps up your spare in about 35 seconds and hits 150 PSI. Works on SUVs, bikes and basketballs. There’s even a built-in light for night fixes, and it doubles as a power bank for your phone.

Jerry's Must-Watch Video of the Week!

Recently at the Detroit Airport, a guy in a Mercedes appears to intentionally crash into the terminal and continue all the way to the ticket counter. Nobody died thankfully, but six were injured and the driver arrested. What’s cool about the just over 1-minute video is all the different angles you see the crash. I don’t care if he has a TSA pre-check or not, you can’t do this!

True Stories From A Former Car Dealer

true-stories-2

This is #2 in a series of 40 stories written by me about occurrences from my days in the car business. Each story had a lasting impression on me for some reason or another. Some because they were funny, some because they were sad, and some were just strange. But whatever the case, over the next 38 weeks, we’ll feature one of them, in order for you to enjoy.

Today, is The Camper. Of the 40 stories, I’ve probably had more comments on this one than any of them. I was a young Used Car Manager, and part of my duties was to place a value on anything someone wanted to trade it. It’s a tough job-if you don’t give the customer enough for their trade-in you cost the dealership a new vehicle sale. If you put too much money into it, the dealership takes a loss.

On this day, Marvin brought over a pickup with a huge overhead camper on the back for me to appraise. Marvin always said I drove too fast when I appraised cars and he really didn’t want to ride with me on my test route. I finally convinced him to, and the ending of this story is one you’ll likely never forget.

Keep America Rolling - Then and Now

There are certain moments in life when time freezes. Depending on your age, you remember exactly where you were when they happened. For me, it was when President Kennedy was shot, when the first space shuttle exploded, and September 11, 2001.

I was serving as Ford National Dealer Council Chairman that year. On Sept. 10, I flew to Midland, Texas, for a meeting with West Texas Ford dealers. The next morning, I was in my hotel room getting ready when I turned on Good Morning America. Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer were talking about a fire in one of the World Trade Center towers. I had eaten dinner at the top of one of those towers just three months earlier.

Then I watched the second plane hit.

In that instant, I knew we were under attack.

At 9:35 a.m. Central, I opened the dealer meeting with a television in the room so everyone could watch the coverage. Five minutes in, I looked around at the faces — good men and women, small-town dealers who were worried about far more than inventory and incentives — and I said, “There are more important things going on than this. Go be with your families. This can wait.”

The meeting was over.

Getting home became the only priority. Flights were grounded. The country was shutting down. Three Ford managers and I piled into a rented Mercury Grand Marquis and drove 350 miles back to Dallas. The highways were eerily quiet. No airplanes overhead. Just news on the radio and uncertainty hanging in the air.

When I stopped by my dealership that afternoon, there wasn’t a customer in the place. In the days that followed, a store that normally sold 20 to 30 vehicles on a weekday was lucky to sell two or three. Employees hugged me with tears in their eyes. We were shaken. As a dealership family and as a nation.

It felt like the bottom had dropped out.

But something else happened.

On Sept. 21, 2001, General Motors launched “Keep America Rolling” — 0% financing for five years on every GM vehicle. Ford matched it almost immediately. Chrysler followed. What had been paralysis turned into motion. Showrooms filled. Through the end of October, we sold more cars than I can ever remember. We couldn’t keep up. We hadn’t ordered enough inventory. It was a surge no one expected.

History doesn’t move in straight lines. It swings.

I’ve seen that swing over and over again. Gas lines in the 1970s. Twenty percent interest rates in the early ’80s. The Great Recession. COVID shutting down assembly plants. The microchip shortage that left lots empty and vehicles sitting unfinished for want of a tiny semiconductor. EV mandates followed by EV pullbacks. Billions in write-offs. Policy reversals.

Every time, someone says, “This time it’s different.”

And every time, they’re partly right — and mostly wrong.

Yes, the details change. The triggers are different. Sometimes it’s geopolitics. Sometimes it’s financial markets. Sometimes it’s a virus. Sometimes it’s a supply chain breakdown halfway around the world.

But the core truth remains: Americans need transportation. Families still need a safe vehicle to bring a baby home. Workers still need reliable wheels to get to a job. Small business owners still need trucks to make payroll.

The car business is cyclical, emotional, and occasionally dramatic. It can also be remarkably resilient.

After 9/11, incentives reshaped consumer behavior for decades. After the Great Recession, credit standards tightened and then eased. After COVID and the chip crisis, pricing models and inventory strategies shifted. Each event felt existential in the moment.

None of them ended the auto industry.

What they did do was remind me to take the long view.

When headlines scream about regulatory upheaval or billions lost on electric vehicles, it’s easy to think the foundation is cracking. I’ve stood in showrooms that felt abandoned. I’ve watched sales boards gather dust. I’ve also watched customers line up out the door when confidence returned.

Panic rarely lasts as long as perspective.

If you’ve been around long enough, you learn that the loudest moments are often temporary. The steady operators survive. The disciplined manufacturers adapt. The informed buyers make sound decisions and move forward.

September 11 taught me that some days change a nation. It also taught me that Americans do not sit still for long.

We grieve. We adjust. We rebuild. And eventually, we get back on the road.

We always do.

The car business has weathered tragedy, recession, pandemic, affordability, and policy swings. It will weather whatever comes next. Because underneath all the noise, it still represents freedom, opportunity, and mobility.

And as long as people need to get somewhere tomorrow morning, this industry will endure.

We’ve been here before.

And we’re still driving.

Straight Talk and Honest Answers — always.
