Dear CarPro Family,

We start today by honoring the dads who are reading this newsletter.  Like the moms, Dads are special too, and have a special bond with their children.  There is no substitute for the love of a dad, so today we give you a history of Father’s Day, a poem, and a very touching video that is only a minute long.  Feel free to pass this on to any dad you consider to be a great one, including your own!  I was blessed to have 30 Father’s Days with my son before he passed away, so if your children are still with you, count your blessings.

In big stories this week, yesterday President Trump officially rolled back California's pro-EV rules, we have the latest on that breaking news below.  Also, GM announced plans to invest $4 billion in its U.S. plants to build more vehicles here. We also find out that interest in electrics is at its lowest level since 2019. Meanwhile, auto thefts saw their biggest decline last year in 40 years, and that is certainly welcome news.

Consumer advocate Clark Howard has shared some info with us this week on car tires, and we hope to feature his great work more in the future, similar to the affiliation with Kim Komando.  Clark has a newsletter also that I get every single day and like Kim’s newsletter, I have learned a lot from it.

Thinking of a luxury electric car?  Lucid, one of my favorites, is offering up to $31,500 in savings and that makes for a smoking low lease payment.  I have the details for you below.  After many years of the same design, Volvo has come up with a new seat belt design.  True to my prediction, our friends over at Ram listened to customers and dealers and are bringing back the Hemi V8 in pickups.

In car reviews, I had two completely redesigned SUVs.  First, I have the new 2025 Toyota 4Runner Trailhunter, and I have the 2025 Nissan Murano Platinum, which is incredibly nice.   Our Amy Plemons gives you a full and complete review of the fun and sporty 2025 Audi S3 Prestige. In advice, I answer the question:  Is a diesel right for you?  I look at the advantages and disadvantages of the big beefy engines.

Plus, lots of other information you will likely enjoy, including my video of the week which is always one of the most clicked on items in the newsletter.  If you haven’t perused my FAQ page, please do.  There are likely multiple articles you can use, every one of them written by me.

Check the recall section to see if you may need to take action on your vehicle.  Miss a radio show?  Below we tell you how to get the podcast, and if you missed a newsletter, we tell you how to find the archive page where you can see the last 10 editions.  The incentives have gone up lately, but our Incentive Guide is always 100% up to date.

We very much appreciate you being part of the newsletter family.  Without you, there is no Car Pro Show.  Let us know how we can help you, and if you haven’t been to our website lately, check it out at CarPro.com. It changes daily.

Have a terrific week.  See you on the radio!

HAPPY Father's Day to All The Dads!

Screen Shot 2025-06-12 at 4.07.50 PM

Happy Father's Day from the Car Pro Show!  I hope all the dads out there have an extra special Sunday!  As I say on the radio show every year, anybody can be a father, but it takes a special man to be a dad.    Here is a poem, just for you Dads:

I hope you'll also take a moment and watch this short video about how Dads answer the calls of their children.  This brought good memories for me:

  President Overturns California's Pro-EV Rules

ev-charging-california-Bill45-shutterstock

And thus the legal battle begins. On Thursday, President Donald Trump ended California's EV mandate. The President did this by signing a bill that overturned the state's Pro-EV rules that called for the end of the sale of gas-powered vehicles by 2035. California - along with 10 other states - immediately filed a lawsuit challenging Trump's repeal of the rules.

GM To Invest $4B To Expand U.S. Production

General Motors says it will invest $4 billion to assemble more vehicles inside the borders of our country. Objectively, this is the reason the tariffs were enacted. CEO Mary Barra seems to be publicly “all-in” on moving a huge
amount of production back to America. Only time will tell us how this pays off for GM.

The other notable tariff-related news this week is a U.S.-China trade deal involving rare earth materials. The deal, that still must be signed, would avert a third major auto supply crisis.

Lucid Motors Offers $31,500 Off On Air EVs

As I told everyone a few months ago, I leased a new BMW i5 sedan.  I can tell you with certainty, if this had been available, I would have jumped all over this deal, especially after I reviewed and loved the Lucid a few years ago!  If you missed my review and video, click here.

Kim Komando's Useful Tips of the Week

new-kim-kommando-graphiBesides the Car Pro Show and our weekly newsletter, my other favorite radio show and newsletter is Kim Komando’s.  We're on many of the same radio stations across America.  She does for her listeners and newsletter subscribers exactly what I endeavor to do:  Give you useful information to keep you up to date on the latest in cars, only she does it with technology and there is nobody who does it better.  Not sure how she puts out a top-notch newsletter seven days a week, but she does.

Here are some interesting things I found this week in Kim’s Newsletter:

  • Lock your computer instantly: Leaving your desk for a few minutes? On Windows, press Windows key + L to lock your screen without closing anything. On Mac, press Control Command Q. It’s a good habit to get into and much faster than waiting for screen time-out to kick in.
  • 1,000 miles That’s how far China’s newest range-extended SUVs can go on one charge and a bit of gas. That’s New York to Key West without the “where’s the next charger?” panic attack. Huawei and Chery’s Luxeed R7 (paywall link) leads the pack, mixing EV cred with a gas backup. Range anxiety? Cured. Now it’s just regular life’s anxiety left.
  • AT&T data leak: Hackers just exposed 86 million customer records, including names, phone numbers, emails and addresses. Worse? Nearly 44 million Social Security numbers were leaked in plain text. That’s prime info for scammers and identity theft. PSA: Stay alert for phishing attempts and keep a close eye on your accounts, folks.
  • Self-healing concrete: Scientists made concrete that can literally fix itself, and it’s technically alive. They’re using synthetic lichen that feeds on sunlight and air. It then produces calcium carbonate, the same ultra-strong material found in Roman concrete. When cracks appear, they fill in naturally.
  • Teen heart hacker: A 14-year-old in Texas built an AI-powered heart screening app that can detect cardiac issues in seven seconds with just a smartphone mic. Yes, seriously. It’s 96% accurate and already in clinical trials. App detects heart failure? I wonder if it can hear mine breaking during tax season.
  • Package delayed scam: This one is spreading fast. You place an order after seeing a tempting ad, but the package never shows. Then comes the excuse: delays due to tariffs or customs. Next thing you know, they’re asking for extra fees after checkout.

Clark Howard: When Is Best Time To Buy Tires?

IScreen Shot 2025-06-11 at 12.59.02 PMn my opinion, the most important, yet often most ignored safety feature on a vehicle are its tires. After all, they separate you from the road. They can also be expensive to replace, which prompts a lot of people to delay their purchase.  Clark.com, a consumer website that I'm a big fan of, provides some great tips about buying new tires, whether there's a good time to buy them, and the best places to buy them:

FYI:  Clark Howard is a leading consumer advocate and money expert that has been sharing practical advice to help people save more and spend less for more than 30 years.  He has a podcast: (The Clark Howard Podcast) and a daily newsletter that I subscribe to. Like us here at the Car Pro Show, he collaborates with Kim Komando and her Tech coverage.  I hope to bring you more of Clark’s work in the future.  If you would like to subscribe to his newsletter, you can do so at www.Clark.com, he puts out a terrific publication.
