July 10, 2026

Dear Car Pro Family,

I truly hope you had a great celebration of our country’s 250th birthday. I’m convinced the best days of America are ahead of us. I heard from a huge number of people after our special five-hour presentation last Saturday, The Road To 250. I debuted a new song I wrote and produced, played some of the others I’ve done, we had patriotic speech excerpts, and much more. If you missed it, no worries. We start this week with how to listen to the shows and how to listen to the music and my special version of the Pledge of Allegiance. We also have the long-awaited mid-year sales results!

I figured if I was going to make a bunch of people mad, I might as well get it all out in one newsletter, right? Rip off the band-aid? So, here we go! In a commentary piece below, I make my best case that it’s time for Mary Barra, the CEO of General Motors to retire. Remember the article I wrote a few weeks ago where I took exception again to Consumer Reports and its study of pickups? Well, they reached out to me with their side of the story, and it didn’t change my mind in the least. Finally, if you are a fan of Dave Ramsey, you’ll hate my article about him below. He flat needs to stay away from any advice about cars because he sucks at it.

Also, below I try to make sense of the hot topic of right-to-repair your own car, I have data to show where the best and worst drivers are in America, I give you the most popular car colors out there, and it is time to rank the best-looking State Trooper cruisers. Choose the state you like the most and vote before Monday noon.

True Story #20 is at the bottom of this publication, and it is called The Shaguar. A long time ago, I bought a Jaguar used in a very popular Austin Power’s movie. I tell you how I got it and where it is today. Kim Komando’s quiz and a bunch of other tech items you can use are here as usual. In advice this week, I tell you why AI will never replace car salespeople, even though some disagree with me. I’ve also got some great stories for this week’s Quick Shifts, and Suits & Settlements. My closing message today is titled: The Weight of Good Advice.

For this week’s car reviews, I have two very different SUVs: the 2026 Toyota RAV4 GR Sport plug-in hybrid and the HUGE 2026 Cadillac Escalade IQ. Amy Plemons brings you a full review of the 2026 Polestar 4 EV, our first and likely last review of a Polestar. I have a story below on this subject actually.

If you haven’t perused my FAQ page, please do. There are likely multiple articles you can use, every one of them written by me.

We very much appreciate you being part of the newsletter family.  Without you, there is no Car Pro Show.  Let us know how we can help you, and if you haven’t been to our website lately, check it out at CarPro.com. It changes daily.

Have a terrific week.  See you on the radio THIS SATURDAY!

Did You Miss The Road to 250 Radio Show & Music?

celebration-250-4-1
ChatGPT Plus/CarPro.

If by chance you were unable to join us for our special presentation of The Road To 250 last Saturday, I wanted to bring you a chance to enjoy it. We poured our hearts and souls into making this a show that would last for many years if people ever want to go back and see what we were doing at the 250th anniversary of our great country. I wrote scripts for hours, it took a lot of hours to pre-record the show and get the times perfect so that 141 stations across America could play it at the exact same time.

Podcasts

There were elements of both shows (DFW and the nationally syndicated version) that were similar. For instance, me teaching my nephew Connor the Pledge of Allegiance. The DFW show featured some our long-time Certified Dealers and some local celebrities. So feel free to listen to either DFW, the national, or both from these links:

Kim Komando's Quiz & Tech Tips

Besides the Car Pro Show and our weekly newsletter, my other favorite radio show and newsletter is Kim Komando’s. We are on many of the same radio stations across America. She does for her listeners and newsletter subscribers exactly what I endeavor to do: Give you useful information to keep you up to date on the latest in cars, only she does it with technology and there is nobody who does it better. Not sure how she puts out a top-notch newsletter seven days a week, but she does.

I recommend you subscribe to Kim’s daily newsletter. I learn something new every single day, and it’s free! Subscribe here

💡Kim’s Quiz:

Imagine you’re in a massive parking lot, blazing July sun, and you can’t for the life of you remember where you parked. You hold the fob up, mash the unlock button, and nothing. You wave it around like you’re conducting an invisible orchestra. Still nothing.

Here’s a fix that looks completely ridiculous but totally works: Press the key fob against your head or under your chin, then hit the button again. Voila, car found.

🔑 Why does holding your key fob to your head make the signal reach farther? A) Your head helps extend the signal, B) Body heat boosts the battery, C) Your eyes help aim it, D) The car feels bad for you.

*Answer below my closing message at the very bottom of this newsletter.

Sell Or Consign Your Car For Top Dollar!

SELL-YOUR-CAR-

I hear from a lot of people who end up with an extra car for some reason. Sometimes it is due to a death in the family, or someone gets transferred overseas. I’ve seen many occasions where this happens. Well, now, we have two ways to dispose of a vehicle.

ThisCar has been with us for quite some time. They are terrific buyers and make the transactions very easy. They have helped many of our listeners and I’ve had terrific feedback. They are great, too, if you need a good idea what your car is truly worth and as I always say, a car is only worth what someone is willing to write a check for it. ThisCar writes checks, and lots of them.

Now, if you have more time, RetailMyRide.com is now an official partner of the Car Pro Show and they take cars on consignment. You’ve heard me recommend them in the past most likely, and they have helped many of our listeners. They market the car at all the right places, they get top dollar for it, take a little off the top, and you get the rest. It’s that simple. No people coming to your house, calling or texting, no worrying about how to complete the paperwork, they do all that for you.

So, the question is: Do you want quick cash or the most cash? We’ve got you covered either way with CarPro AppraisalPro OR CarPro ConsignPro.

It all starts at CarPro.com, click SELL A CAR at the top, or click here →

True Stories From A Former Car Dealer

The Weight Of Good Advice

One of the things I've learned over the course of my life is that giving advice is easy. Giving good advice is something entirely different. Everybody has an opinion these days, and thanks to television, podcasts, YouTube, and social media, there has never been a shortage of people willing to tell you what to do. The hard part isn't having an opinion. The hard part is understanding that somebody may actually listen to you, act on what you say, and then have to live with the consequences.

That's something I've never taken lightly.

People sometimes ask me how I come up with topics for the radio show or this newsletter. The truth is, I spend far less time thinking about what I'm going to say than I do making sure what I'm about to say is accurate. When someone calls me on a Saturday morning asking whether they should lease or buy, repair the car they own or trade it, buy an extended warranty, or take advantage of a particular financing offer, they're not asking me an interesting hypothetical question. They're asking me to help them make one of the biggest financial decisions they'll make this year, and after they hang up the phone, they're the ones who have to live with whatever decision they make.

That carries a tremendous amount of responsibility.

I've seen firsthand what bad advice can do. During my years as a dealer, I met people who bought vehicles that never fit their needs because someone talked them into it. I've seen families buried in negative equity because they were told not to worry about it. I've watched people spend thousands of dollars on products they didn't need or pass on something that would have saved them money in the long run. Almost without exception, none of those decisions sounded unreasonable at the time. In fact, bad advice usually sounds pretty convincing, and that's exactly what makes it dangerous.

Over the past forty-plus years in the automobile business, I've learned that facts matter. They mattered when I was selling cars. They mattered when I owned dealerships. They matter today every time I sit down behind a microphone or write this newsletter. If I tell you a vehicle has a great reliability record, I want to know I'm right. If I recommend a dealership, I want to know they'll treat you with honesty and respect. If I tell you to keep the car you own instead of buying another one, I want to know that recommendation is based on facts, not guesswork.

That's one reason you'll occasionally hear me say something that surprises people.

"I don't know."

Some folks think admitting you don't know an answer makes you look less knowledgeable. I've always believed just the opposite. If I don't know, I'll tell you I don't know, and then I'll go find the answer. I'd much rather take a little grief for not answering immediately than confidently give someone information that turns out to be wrong. In this business, being first has never been nearly as important as being right.

That philosophy came to mind again while I was writing about some of Dave Ramsey's comments regarding leasing. I have tremendous respect for what Dave has accomplished and the number of people he's helped become debt-free. But when the facts aren't accurate, the advice can lead people in the wrong direction, and that's where I part company with anyone, no matter how well known they may be. Advice that affects somebody's financial future deserves more than a catchy sound bite. It deserves careful thought, real-world experience, and a commitment to getting the facts right.

One of the greatest compliments I receive doesn't come from someone telling me they enjoy the show or read the newsletter every week. Those things are certainly appreciated, but what means the most is when someone says, "Jerry, because of your advice, we didn't make a mistake." Sometimes it's a young couple buying their first new vehicle. Sometimes it's a retiree trying to make a fixed income go a little farther. Sometimes it's a widow who simply wanted someone she could trust to explain the process. Knowing that I helped someone avoid an expensive mistake is more satisfying to me today than closing a big deal ever was.

That's probably why I still enjoy doing this after all these years. I don't need to be here every Saturday morning. I don't have to spend hours every week driving new vehicles, reading industry reports, studying recalls, researching lawsuits, or digging into financing programs. I do those things because I know someone is depending on me to separate fact from fiction, and I never want to forget that behind every question is a real person trusting me to point them in the right direction.

Trust is one of those things that takes years to earn and only moments to lose. I've been fortunate that thousands of you have trusted me with your questions, your concerns, and sometimes even your family's financial future. That's a responsibility I've never taken for granted, and it's one I never will.

After all these years, I've come to believe that good advice isn't measured by how clever it sounds or how many people agree with it. It's measured by whether it genuinely helps someone make a better decision. If I can do that, then I've done my job.

Because advice is free.

Living with bad advice can be very expensive.

Straight Talk and Honest Answers — always.

Kim Komando Quiz Answer

A). Your head helps extend the signal. Well, technically your head is packed with fluid, and water turns out to be a surprisingly good conductor of radio waves.

🙂‍↔️ Press the fob to your chin or temple, and your head effectively becomes part of the antenna, coupling with the fob and stretching its weak little signal farther than the fob manages on its own. Don’t expect magic. This is like a few extra car lengths, roughly double in some tests, enough to find your car across a packed lot, not unlock it from the next county.
