January 24, 2025
Dear CarPro Family,
Here we are again, looking at the last weekend of the month. I talked a lot last Saturday on the radio show about the atmosphere at dealerships in January. The pace slows down, dealers need the business, especially when their month has been hampered by cold temperatures and often precipitation. Friends and listeners in the California areas affected by the fires, we are still here for you and you remain in our thoughts and prayers.
Wow, lots of legal information today that I think you will find interesting and could make you really angry. First, GM and OnStar have drawn fire from the Federal Trade Commission for spying on you and selling your information, but they are not alone. The Texas Attorney General is suing Allstate insurance for the same thing, which is sure to spur more states to take similar action. A subsidiary of Toyota is being fined 1.6 billion dollars, and yes, that is billion with a B.
Many of you have asked how Kevin McCarthy was doing since he retired last September after 23 years with me on the Car Pro Show. Today, you can find out for yourself and listen to a friend of mine, Rowdy Yates, who did an interview with Kevin about his decades in broadcasting. I even learned some things I did not know.
Houston, your Auto Show is next week, I have details for you below. DFW, we’re 4 weeks away, but tune into the WBAP Car Pro Show TOMORROW where we’ll have Brent Franks, the President of the North Texas Auto Dealers with us on the air to discuss the auto show. Remember, too, we’ll be doing the show live from the floor of the DFW Auto Expo on February 22nd, and we’ll begin giving away free tickets next week so you can attend.
In sad news, Mecum’s John Kraman, who was on the Car Pro Show less than six months ago passed away suddenly, and two of my all-time favorite Lexus models say goodbye, but you can still get one for now. Also below, all the 4-1-1 on the all-new 2026 Subaru Crosstrek hybrid, and the Corvette ZR1 with a mere 1,064-horses under the hood.
Don’t miss Kim Komando’s Special Report this week about automaker subscription monthly or annual charges. You’ve heard me complain about this on the air. In advice today, I write about the importance of keeping proper maintenance records, which could really save you a lot of money and hassle down the road.
In car reviews, I had the amazing 2025 GMC Hummer 3X SUV, an over 9,000-pound all-electric monster of an SUV that makes absolutely no sense, yet I hated giving it back. This is the longest review I have ever written, which is fitting for the biggest vehicle I’ve ever reviewed. Our Amy Plemons gives you a full and complete review of the 2025 Acura MDX Type S SUV.
Check the recall section to see if you may need to take action on your vehicle. Miss a radio show? Below we tell you how to get the podcast, and if you missed a newsletter, we tell you how to find the archive page where you can see the last 10 editions. The incentives have gone up lately, but our Incentive Guide is always 100% up to date.
Plus, lots of other information you will enjoy, including my video of the week we talk about on the air all the time! If you have never been to our FAQ page, take a minute and peruse the categories, something there will interest you for sure → FAQ.
We so appreciate all of you who take this newsletter and listen to the show every week. We know that without you, there is no Car Pro Radio Show. So always let us know when we can help you. If you have not been there lately, take a look at our website, carpro.com, it changes all the time!
Have a terrific week. See you on the radio!
