April 24, 2026

Dear Car Pro family,

Hard to believe, but the last weekend of April is here! So, what is the climate for getting a new ride? I break it down for you in our lead story today and go even deeper in my advice column this week that is titled: Buy Now Or Wait-What The Market Is Telling Me. And sort of related to all of this is my closing message: Don’t Let Headlines Drive Your Decision. This advice is good now or any time.

I have a further look at Q1 sales numbers for you today, the annual CarMD report on the greatest causes of your check engine light coming on AND what it costs to fix it. I coined a new phrase: Subscription Fatigue and it’s likely hit all of us. I explain how this syndrome applies to your car. If you watch TV at all, you know which insurance companies claim to have the lowest premiums, but which ones pay their claims best? I have that for you. And if you rent a vehicle from Hertz, look out for their scanner that determines damage to your rental car and be very, very, careful.

True Story #10 is at the bottom of this publication, and it is called Ice Cream. I tell you about a sweet older lady whose car wouldn’t start when she bought a certain flavor ice cream. In car reviews, I have the beastly 2026 Jeep Wrangler Moab 392 with 470-horses, and it even came with a rubber duck! Our Amy Plemons brings you a review of MotorTrend's 2026 Car of the Year, the Volkswagen Golf R!  I’ve got some great stories for this week’s Quick Shifts, don’t miss those. Remember Los Angeles, we start at 10 AM now, Lubbock we’re on for 3 hours LIVE 11-2.

We’ve got another quiz from Kim Komando and some really cool tech tips. If you aren’t used to looking at her section, give it a try, there are some real gems there. If you haven’t perused my FAQ page, please do. There are likely multiple articles you can use, every one of them written by me.

All of our other regular features are below including the Classic Car Contest, the radio stations we are on, how to call the show to talk directly to me, and much, much more.

We very much appreciate you being part of the newsletter family.  Without you, there is no Car Pro Show.  Let us know how we can help you, and if you haven’t been to our website lately, check it out at CarPro.com. It changes daily.

Have a terrific week.  See you on the radio!

Last Weekend Of April: Reasons to Look NOW

great-deals-ahead-shutterstock-1404x1112-1Here we are again! End of month and our dealers need to sell a lot of cars, trucks, and SUVs by next Thursday night. In my advice column today, I give you some insight into the current market for vehicles. Inventory is building, sales started 2026 behind-automakers and car dealers haven’t hit the panic button, but are anxious and unsure when things will pick back up.

That’s bad for them. That’s good for you.

Incentives didn’t take the huge drop in April that they usually do after the end of the first quarter. Why, you ask? Automakers set production schedules months out. Car dealers ordered cars months in advance, too. Both sides by nature are an optimistic group of people, but once production plans are set, the vehicles get built. Once dealerships order cars from the factory, they can’t be canceled or sent back.

Then comes an unexpected war. Everything goes to hell in a handbasket. Forecasts are missed and inventory stacks up. This is the cause of the anxiety that is the elephant in the roomful of auto industry people.

I tell you when it’s a good time to buy and I tell you when it is not. There is no bad news for current buyers. If you have a trade-in, the market is WAY up, you’ll see that in a report below from Cox Automotive. Auction prices have gone through the roof, and what is interesting is it is across the board, not just certain segments. At the auction I just watched this week, cars were selling to dealers for thousands of dollars over the Manheim Market Report price guidelines. But it won’t last, it never has. Are you spending more money for a new car, truck, or SUV today? No question, but if you have a trade-in, especially a clean one, the value in it will eat up a lot of the new vehicle increases in the price.

Use my process, it works if you follow it. Here is a quick reminder of how to fully take advantage of my tried-and-true system:

At Carpro.com, just a little down from the top, choose Certified Car Pros, select the brand you are interested in, and enter your zip code. All approved dealers will be found there sorted by the nearest to you. All the contact info will be there, and if you email them from their listing on my website, they’ll know I sent you and you’ll have VIP status. Most importantly, you’ll get a VIP Certificate sent right back to your email that you can print and take with you. Set your appointment with the Car Pro contact and you are on the way to a new set of wheels. Our website is user-friendly for your phone or on a computer.

Sell Or Consign Your Vehicle For Top Dollar!

SELL-YOUR-CAR-

I hear from a lot of people who end up with an extra car for some reason. Sometimes it is due to a death in the family, or someone gets transferred overseas. I’ve seen many occasions where this happens. Well now, we have two ways to dispose of a vehicle.

ThisCar has been with us for quite some time. They are terrific buyers and make the transactions very easy. They have helped many of our listeners and I’ve had terrific feedback. They are great, too, if you need a good idea what your car is truly worth and as I always say, a car is only worth what someone is willing to write a check for it. ThisCar writes checks, and lots of them.

Now, if you have more time, RetailMyRide.com is now an official partner of the Car Pro Show and they take cars on consignment. You’ve heard me recommend them in the past most likely, and they have helped many of our listeners. They market the car at all the right places, they get top dollar for it, take a little off the top, and you get the rest. It’s that simple. No people coming to your house, calling or texting, no worrying about how to complete the paperwork, they do all that for you.

So, the question is: Do you want quick cash or the most cash? We’ve got you covered either way with CarPro AppraisalPro OR CarPro ConsignPro.

It all starts at CarPro.com, click SELL A CAR at the top, or click here →

In my over 20-years on the radio, I can count the number of products I have endorsed on one hand. I have had many opportunities, but after much due diligence, I usually end up saying no.

I won't recommend a product or service unless I have tried it myself and feel good about recommending it. It is the same with the car dealers on the radio show and website.

Here are companies I wholeheartedly endorse and personally use:

For some reason, the website was not working for leaving comments on the dealer experience, but I had to make sure that Tyrone Burks received a 5 Star review from me. We were in the market for a 2026 Maverick and realized that we would need to order it. We used your CarPro website to find Tyrone at 5 Star Ford in Plano which happened to be very convenient for us.

After answering my many questions, which he answered promptly, patiently, and expertly, he put the order in for us. The truck recently came in and the actual sales process went very smoothly. We are glad that we used the Car Pro website and very glad to have met Tyrone. He was a pleasure to work with, very knowledgeable, professional, and upfront through the whole process. I cannot imagine having a better car buying experience than we did at Five Star Ford in Dallas.

Thank you for leading me to him. You say on the air your trained him. I BELIEVE IT.

I just purchased my 2nd Toyota from Freeman Toyota in the last 18 months! Last time I worked with Lexi and this time with Tim.

My previous purchase was a Seqouia and today I just purchased my daughter a new 4Runner! The process was great, the communication was great, and my daughter will be picking up her new car tomorrow!!!

This time I used Leo as the finance person, and he made everything go smooth.

I just wanted to say thanks and as a loyal listener you have helped me buy an Acura TL, Ford Truck, BMW X5, Ford Expedition, Cadillac XT5, Seqouia and now a 4runner over the years!

Made some new friends at Classic Chevy in Grapevine, while experiencing no high pressure sales pitches. But lots of information and questions about my likes and dislikes. Then viewing inventory that fit my interest and explained the features of each. Very patient while I compared price for different models until I could narrow down to a final choice.

And the same friend making experience all the way through financing!!!!

Jerry,

Just a note closing the circle.

Thanks again from a 20 year listener of your great car pro show.

Jerry,

Really look forward to your Saturday show. Always informative, upbeat and interesting, but the best part is how you treat your callers - easy listening.

Some radio hosts are not as respectful to their callers as you. You have a real knack for that. Maybe that is why you are now in the “Hall of Fame” - not bad for a weekender.

Any event - you are really good at what you do and it makes for a good nice informative show for listeners like me.

Thanks again,

Jerry's Must-Watch Video of the Week!

As you will see in this 3-minute video, angels walk among us. Case in point, a truck driver who sees a terrible crash between a semi and a sedan. The collision caused a fire and trapped inside the car a lady and a 1-year-old girl. The trucker grabs his fire extinguisher and runs to the car. Others join in to help and miraculously get the two occupants out, and they lived. ALL caught from the trucker’s dash cam. The world needs more like him.

A wild chase came to a dramatic, violent end as a car flipped over and smashed into a power pole, knocking down live electricity lines onto a passing vehicle.

True Stories From A Former Car Dealer

true-stories-ice-cream

This is #10 in a series of 40 stories written by me about occurrences from my days in the car business. Each story had a lasting impression on me for some reason or another. Some because they were funny, some because they were sad, and some were just strange. But whatever the case, over the next 30 weeks, we’ll feature one of them, in order for you to enjoy.

icecreamOne of my favorite stories ever. This involves a sweet older lady who thought she was going crazy and came to me for help. The case involves two flavors of ice cream, one of which wouldn’t allow her car to start. So, was she losing it or was there an explanation?

  Closing Message From Jerry Reynolds

Don't Let Headlines Drive Your Decision

If you’ve been paying attention to the news lately, it’s enough to make your head spin.

One day it’s gas prices going up, then down, then up again. The next day it’s electric vehicles slowing down. Then it’s interest rates, tariffs, supply issues, or predictions about where the auto market is headed next.

If you tried to make a car-buying decision based on headlines alone, you’d probably change your mind three times before lunch.

And that’s the problem.

Headlines are designed to grab your attention—not guide your decisions.

They’re written to be big, bold, and sometimes a little alarming. That’s what gets clicks. But what they don’t do is take your personal situation into account. They don’t know your budget, your driving habits, your family needs, or how long you plan to keep your next vehicle.

And those things matter a whole lot more than whatever is trending in the news cycle that day.

I’ve seen this play out for years.

When gas prices spike, people panic and rush to trade for something more fuel-efficient—often taking a financial hit in the process. When rates go up, buyers freeze, convinced they should wait, even when waiting may not help them at all. When there’s talk about EVs slowing down, some people assume they should avoid them completely, even if one might fit their lifestyle perfectly.

It’s easy to get caught up in all of it.

But here’s the truth: there is no “one-size-fits-all” answer when it comes to buying a car.

What’s right for your neighbor may be completely wrong for you.

That’s why I’ve always believed the best decisions aren’t made based on headlines—they’re made based on real conversations.

A good decision comes from understanding your needs, your budget, and your priorities. It comes from asking the right questions, not just reacting to the latest news story. And sometimes, it comes from having someone walk you through it who’s seen these cycles before and knows how they play out.

Because they do play out.

I’ve watched this industry go through ups and downs for decades. Prices rise, prices fall. Supply tightens, then it loosens. Trends come and go. But one thing never changes—people who take a thoughtful, measured approach almost always come out ahead of those who react emotionally.

That doesn’t make for a flashy headline.

But it’s the truth.

So, if you’re in the market for a vehicle—or even just thinking about it—don’t let the noise push you into a decision that doesn’t make sense for you.

Take your time. Ask questions. Call me on the air any Saturday 9 AM to 2 PM Central time. Look at the full picture.

And most importantly, make the decision that fits your life—not the one that fits the headline.

Because when it comes to something as important as buying a car, the only opinion that really matters… is yours.

Straight Talk and Honest Answers — always.

 💡Kim Komando Answer:

All of the above, A, B, C and D. Every single one of them outperforms the computer that landed humans on the moon in 1969. Your smartphone is roughly 100 million times more powerful than the Apollo Guidance Computer. The engineers who built it had no shortcuts. They hand-wove the memory, literally threading copper wire through magnetic rings by hand, one bit at a time.
