Last August we shared a first look at the new 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale - the brand's first-ever plug-in hybrid as well as its first compact SUV.  Now, the Tonale is launching here in the U.S. and you can pre-order one starting from $44,995 excluding a $1,595 destination charge.  Pre-orders for the base model, which starts from $42,995, don't open until later this quarter. (Editor’s note:  Tonale rhymes with Denali, like the GMC).

“We look forward to launching the all-new Alfa Romeo Tonale and competing in the premium compact sport-utility vehicle segment with the brand’s first plug-in hybrid offering,” said Larry Dominique, senior vice president and head of Alfa Romeo North America. “The Tonale drops right into one of the largest volume segments with best-in-class 285 horsepower and more than 30 miles of electric range as the next generation of electrified Alfa Romeo vehicles make their way into the market.”

Larry Dominique showed us around the new Tonale last August:

There are three Tonale trims, but just two are available to pre-order now: the mid- and top- tier Tonale Ti and Tonale Veloce trim levels, respectively. The base Sprint trim will be available to order later in the first quarter.

The all-new 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale arrives in the U.S. as a plug-in hybrid. The powertrain combines a 15.5-kWh lithium-ion battery and 90-kW electric motor. The system delivers an electric range of more than 30 miles (48 kilometers). The additional 1.3-liter turbocharged engine contributes to a best-in-class 285 horsepower. Every Tonale is also all-wheel drive.
