Defect Notice 573 Report

FORD

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is facing its first recall - just weeks after the first customer deliveries.

This week, Reuters announced that Ford says it will recall about 2,900 of the electric pickups (2,666 U.S. vehicles and 220 in Canada) due to a software glitch involving the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

The TPMS light may not illuminate to alert drivers about low tire pressure as intended, which could result in poor handling and possible loss of vehicle control which increases crash risk. The root of the issue is that the recommended tire cold inflation pressure value was incorrectly set to 35 psi rather than the correct inflation pressure of 42 psi.

Only certain pickups are reportedly part of the recall - those with 20-inch or 22-inch all-season tires.

Dealers will update the Body Control Module software for vehicles that haven't been delivered yet . New Lightning owners who have their pickups already can also receive an update at a dealer. It takes about 20 minutes. Otherwise,  owners can wait for an over-the-air software update that will be available in 30 days.

SUBARU/TOYOTA

  • NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V444000
  • Manufacturer Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
  • Components WHEELS
  • Potential Number of Units Affected 661

Summary

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2023 Subaru Solterra and Toyota BZ4X vehicles. The hub bolts on the wheels may loosen, causing a wheel to detach from the vehicle after low-mileage use.

Remedy

Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until they are repaired. The remedy is currently under development. Letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed June 24, 2022. A second letter will be sent once the remedy is available. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
