With car prices still at near record highs, this list is likely to come in handy for car shoppers looking to cut vehicle expenses. It's a list of the 20 Cheapest and 20 Most Expensive cars to drive compiled by iSeeCars. Researchers say the vehicles listed offer the lowest and highest cost per 1,000 miles, based on new vehicle prices and average miles per year.

Also of note, iSeeCars says hybrids are the cheapest cars to drive by fuel type, at an average of $2,978 per 1,000 miles driven. On the flip side, EVs are the priciest to drive by fuel type at at $6,428 per 1,000 miles driven. Overall, research shows that hybrids cost 15.0% less and electric vehicles cost 85.5% more per mile driven compared to gas vehicles.
iSeeCars says it analyzed the odometer readings and historical new car prices from over 1 million 3-year-old used cars sold from November 2024 to April 2025 and found that the average new car price is $44,223 and the average annual use is 12,307 miles per year.
