Special Look: 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning (VIDEO)

Written by Amy Plemons | Jun 29, 2022 1:16:06 PM

It was a lineup of trucks to behold -- four all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning pickups lined up underneath the blazing Texas sun on a hotter than we'd all like June day.   The scene was in North Texas at a media event where I had the chance to drive a Lightning, albeit briefly, for the first time ever.   The all-electric pickups at the event included the Platinum, XLT and Pro models.  I spent a brief time behind the wheel of a Platinum model and this all-electric pickup is every bit as impressive as you've heard - and frankly more so.  The acceleration provided by instant torque is incredible and exhilarating.  The smooth ride is incredible. It's just a jaw-dropping combo. Car Pro Show host Jerry Reynolds is currently spending a week behind the wheel of the Lightning and will bring you a full review with his driving impressions next week. We've also shared Lightning range stats for you here.

Rob Beaird, a spokesperson for Ford Motor Company, shows us around the Platinum - highlighting some of its cool features. The color combo is Star White Metallic with a black leather interior. It rides on optional 22-inch wheels and you'll find a toughbed spray-in bedliner in the bed.

The Lightning's all-electric powertrain delivers 563-horsepower, an incredible 775 pound-feet of near-instant torque and it can hit zero to 60 in the mid-4 second range, making it the quickest F-150 ever.  The Lightning can tow up to 10,000 pounds and and carry up to 2,000 pounds of payload.

Our thanks to Ford Motor Company for the recent Media Drive opportunity.

Car Pro Show host Jerry Reynolds is driving this very Platinum model this week and look for his full review with a video next week!

Due to demand, the current model year Lightning is no longer available to order.
