Toyota’s Grand Highlander is getting an outdoorsy addition for 2027, with a new Woodland Edition joining the three-row SUV lineup. According to Toyota, the updated models will arrive at dealerships later this year, with starting prices of $42,560 for the gasoline LE and $45,910 for the hybrid LE, excluding delivery and handling. The Grand Highlander continues to be assembled in Princeton, Indiana. Woodland Editions are also available for the RAV4, bZ and Sienna.

What’s New

The hybrid-powered Woodland Edition combines standard all-wheel drive with all-terrain tires, slightly increased ground clearance and black exterior accents. Family-friendly extras include all-weather floor mats, a removable second-row cooler and a cargo organizer. Apparently, keeping the drinks cold is now part of the adventure equipment.

Elsewhere, XLE models gain a heated steering wheel and darker wheels, while the gasoline Platinum receives a new wheel design. Hybrid MAX Platinum models adopt more black exterior trim. Toyota is dropping the Hybrid Nightshade and Hybrid MAX Limited versions for 2027.

Powertrains of Choice

Buyers will continue to have three powertrain choices: a turbocharged gasoline engine, a conventional hybrid and the more powerful Hybrid MAX. Their outputs range from 245 horsepower for the hybrid to 362 horsepower for Hybrid MAX, with the gasoline model in between.

The choices let shoppers emphasize fuel efficiency, performance or towing needs. Gasoline and Hybrid MAX versions can tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped, compared with 3,500 pounds for the conventional hybrid. Front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive availability varies by model.

Exterior

The Grand Highlander retains its substantial proportions, broad grille and clean body lines. Large windows and wide rear door openings serve practical purposes, improving visibility and access to the back seats.

Available larger wheels add a more upscale appearance, while the Woodland’s darker accents give it a more rugged personality. Hybrid MAX models receive distinctive exhaust and bumper details.

Interior

Passenger space remains a major selling point. Depending on configuration, the Grand Highlander seats seven or eight, with a third row Toyota describes as adult-sized. Available second-row captain’s chairs offer individual seating, while a bench maximizes passenger capacity.

The rear seats fold flat to expand cargo space, making the cabin adaptable for grocery runs, vacations or hauling bulky items. Large third-row windows help those seated in back enjoy the view, and an available panoramic moonroof adds to the open feeling.

Grades

The lineup includes LE, XLE, Woodland Edition, Limited and Platinum. LE provides the starting point, while XLE adds comfort and convenience equipment. Woodland brings its outdoor-oriented features, Limited moves toward greater luxury, and Platinum tops the range.

Depending on trim, upgrades include leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seating, premium audio and additional parking technology. Exterior and interior color choices also vary by grade.

Driver-Focused Tech and Multimedia

A standard 12.3-inch touchscreen supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add premium JBL audio, a digital instrument display and, on Platinum, a head-up display.

Available smartphone-based features allow owners to use a digital key or remotely access certain vehicle functions. Some connected features require an active trial or subscription.

Safety and Convenience

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 remains standard, bringing collision-warning and automatic-braking assistance, adaptive cruise control, lane assistance, road-sign recognition and automatic high beams. These systems support the driver’s awareness and responses during everyday travel.

Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and Safe Exit Alert are also standard. Available parking aids provide camera views around the vehicle and assistance when maneuvering in tight spaces.

Limited Warranty

Toyota lists basic coverage of three years or 36,000 miles and powertrain coverage of five years or 60,000 miles. Its announcement also includes ToyotaCare scheduled maintenance for one year or 10,000 miles, plus three years of roadside assistance regardless of mileage.
