American Automobile Association (AAA) Manager of Driver Training Dr. Bill Van Tassell says there are three keys to keep in mind when using vehicle safety technology. Bill Van Tassell: "What we do in our training programs for drivers of all ages, not just new drivers, we start with the premise that you should know thy vehicle. Meaning you should, to start with you gotta know what your vehicle has or doesn't have. Second, you've got to know how that system works and its limitations and there are tricky parts there in the limitations because there's a lot of presentation on television particularly about how well these systems work as portrayed by the manufacturers. And they look pretty good. According to our testing they're not that effective. And then lastly is technology I think the issue of over-relying on it and here's where we're going with the changing and behaviors, humans do that, we change our behavior depending on the environment if you will. And we're seeing that with vehicle technologies, seeing people sort of consume them if you will for performance benefit rather than for safety benefit.” For more information check out CarPro.com.
